  1. maggi is like salty brown colored water. not much unlike some soy sauce. agreed. kikkoman isn't all *that* bad though, is it? the stuff from japan is much better than the stuff from WI, imo.
  2. oh jeez, i used to love the Connells, and haven't thought about them in probably 10 years. i think we need a thread on "rock shirts with food themes". i know we did a "food song" thread, which turned out pretty impressive. i'll try to find it. here it be.
  3. steakas, if you plan on going to F&J, why don't you rent On the Waterfront first. in addition to being a good movie, there's a scene filmed at F&J. it's kinda neat to see how much the room hasn't changed all that much in 50 years.
  4. Wrong thread. I felt I should confess. why don't you take your sick and twisted comments to some other thread.
  5. i think it's also related to the fact that the host can be such a nasty miserable prick. unacceptable regardless of my expectations.
  6. mrs. tommy took to slowly throwing out all of my "band" shirts. but that's another thread altogether.
  7. they'd probably be interested in the several threads about babbo as well. god knows for one of the most loved restaurants in NYC, they get their share of criticism from us.
  8. i predict that ketchup will be the clear winner here. for every disgusting use for it, and there are many, there is a good use as well. you don't find that very often i don't think.
  9. beer mug. another vote for snickers, although they're pretty good from the fridge as well.
  10. definitely cheesier than degustibus.
  11. It's a Nestle product--isn't it made all over the world, pretty much? But think it may have been invented in Switzerland. and it seems like the ingredients differ depending on where it's made. who could possibly need a product like this? it's bad enough that kikomman has difference soys that look the same, but this just seems disgusting.
  12. everything i've read says that maggi is made in thailand, and contains the following: water, hydrolyzed corn gluten and soy protein, salt, artificial flavor. yummy.
  13. i don't think getting the name of the dish is feasible. but, i think it's probably one of the things that you guys mentioned. thanks to everyone for the help. i learned something today.

that's a horrible generalization, inn't? Precisely my point. are you suggesting that there aren't unsavory characters in that area?

you'd think they'd get the idea and make, say, one more every night. i liked frank in the soprano's.
  18. Why pick one? a few of the grimey clubs in NOLA have men and women dancing. perfect for a date.
  19. eGullet: the most well-endowed food site on the web.
  20. it didn't look like the cinnamon i usually see though. is tamarind pod barky? this was barky, and a bit brittle. if bent, it would basically break. when i ate a bit, it broke up into a coffee-grind like texture, which was unpleasant.

  22. i'm not sure if this qualifies, but back in high school, i was having dinner at a chinese restaurant with my girlfriend and her brother. we were having a grand ol' time cracking up over various silly things. i was laughing so hard for so long, and had drank so much tea, that all of a sudden everything came right up and onto my lap, on my white shorts. the other customers were none too impressed as we walked out, with me covered in vomit, and laughing that much harder.
  23. i just googled an image of this. sure looks like it could be it. do we have this in the states? edit: did the same for "cinnamon bark". same idea. i'd google "drumstick", but i think i'd get a lot of false-positives.
  24. i managed once to drop a big ol' soup dumpling...on rail paul's lap. ...nah. too easy.
  25. i'll bring lawndarts and firecrackers.
