  1. well fat guy, i'm also considering a painter. i have no idea what it will cost, but if it's the smart way to go, i might just do that. i don't paint a lot, but i'm generally good at catching on to things. my general approach to projects is "this isn't rocket science". as long as you have good tools, and quality materials, and some guidance, most projects are manageable. i'm thinking this is one of them. the DIY approach is being considered for several reasons. one being money, and the other being satisfaction in a job almost-well-done.
  2. oh no, not another "mamma".
  3. there are obviously divergent opinions on whether or not this can be done with any degree of success. my neighbor says hers turned out great. FG says his sister's didn't turn out so hot. i'm looking for more real-world experience, along with possible pitfalls to avoid.
  4. there are a lot of resources on the 'net for this. i was surprised and pleased. some suggest renting a sprayer, which seems reasonable. all suggest light sanding and priming. has anyone taken this approach? it seems the most logical. although probably labor intensive.
  5. my kitchen cabinets are very 80's, and very dark wood. i'm sure what kind of wood, but it's pretty dark. rather than wait until our kitchen remodel, which probably won't happen for another 3 years, i'm considering painting the cabinets a lighter color. my neighbor suggests that it's not that difficult, and it is practical. my concern has always been the paint not taking, or chipping and looking like hell after a while. does anyone have any experience with this?
  6. where's that link. i can hardly wait.
  7. what made you do it? how did you find it? jinymo knows all. it's tucked away somewhere, and that's just what it is. enjoy.
  8. well i'm sure they're very sorry they didn't get back to whomever in 2 days with the "free dinner" certificate. or perhaps they don't care.
  9. where did they say that? hmm.
  10. oh c'mon! don't you think that they should handle their affairs just as Babbo?

    bud

i like bud very much drink it often havnt had the check version in awhile. edited for speeling.
  12. No... now we talk about how bad the show was instead of how bad it is. yeah, i have a few tivo'd and i haven't seen them yet. i guess it's not over for everyone.
  13. perhaps babbo management thought this would be best handled in person or in a one-on-one conversation. i don't think they're in the business of mailing gift certificates to every person who complains.
  14. i didn't read anything that suggested that they definitely were being ignored or not taken care of. in fact, if anything, quite the opposite:
  15. maybe, but chad is making sense.
  16. ok i guess this thread's a wrap. as you were, everybody.
  17. urban legend?
  18. no problem. as long as you don't mind chefs who smoke, don't like ketchup on eggs, eat oysters whenever you feel like it, wouldn't dare use maggi sauce, and you spill food on youself in the appropriate places, i can't see a problem with you joining the egullet crowd for dinner.
  19. how do you reconcile bux's other comments about his chef friend and his abilities as a chef with your initial comment: i'd go as far as to say that i taste better than you do. prove that i don't.
  20. there's a vivid picture in my head right now. and one i'm not afraid to say i'm none too proud of.
  21. i'm an occasional smoker, and i trust my palate. i think that the concept that smoking alters one's palate to the point where they don't know good from bad, or can't recognize the necessary subtle aspects of food or drink, is highly exaggerated. and i'm met very few chefs who don't smoke too much, drink too much, and do too much blow, and who get enough sleep, which i think would have an effect as well.
  22. i'd imagine that a company the size of babbo has certain people who respond to customers' complaints. i wouldn't take it as a slight.
  23. i'd just as soon go to sparks. but then again i'd never liked the whole thing about sparks. but even more then again, i just dread going to brooklyn. after i try sparks, though, i would want to go to luger's. i mean to say, i wouldn't want to go to sparks twice and not luger's once. i mean to say, when?
  24. so cakewalk, are you suggesting that the ice cream snickers are better frozen? just want to make sure we're all on the same page here.
  25. water is for tourists.
