  1. It makes sense as a fun complete meal. A little fruit or greenery if possible but thumbs up
  2. Your mint looks perky for summer - yours or FM? Your dishes as always inspire & appeal
  3. And we will await your excellent as always report
  4. Savoring the best of the season
  5. Are they at least approaching excellent? Gotta say prices have curbed my snack impulse purchasing. A massive kettle corn craving hit. Cost of MW stuff put me right off. I'd prefer the stuff from copper kettle at farmers market but no access.
  6. My first thought was ok I would try with dal and pickles . I like sweet + savory.

    Breakfast 2022

Nice egg. For a not spicy please girl I am guessing black pepper is way different to your taste buds than chiles.
  8. Best test -if it curdles in your coffee- adios
  9. Tomatoes did tickle something from childhood about botulism and improperly canned 'maters - nothing to do with the above but "old wive's tales" can linger.
  10. My pet peeves are with the old people here who do not understand food safety or storage condition factors. The expiration dates are meaningless if you do brilliant things like double dipping on refrigerated items + leaving them out on the counter, or if you go to several stores, get milk & put it in the trunk to cook while you drive around - golly gosh maybe it will not last to expiration stated. As to waste in general, when I return from market she asked if there were "baahgains" and looks at me like I've grown a second head when I say for the umteenth time that I only buy what I need and will use and is reasonably priced. Cue rotting bananas, milk down drain, and on and on. Oh and then complain about cost of food.
  11. Ha! I ordered some chips and salsa for takeout at an old local Mexican/American resto a couple years ago and asked if they had an extra spicy version. He gave me a look, walked into the kitchen and I saw him stir a big spoon of Huy Fong Chili Garlic sauce into the pint. I have copied that in a pinch.
  12. And yet he retains his youthful handsome figure!
  13. It is just a carb so scrambled with eggs herbs dusted with cheese. Depending on my stooopid kitchen situation I often cook up several servings worth, rinse well and put in a storage bag or container to play with for several days. Freeze well too. I grew up keeping the homemade noodles cooked separate from soup so they would not swell and turn cloudy. Spaghetti cut up a bit is nice in soups. @shain often does sweets with noodles. Don't be rule bound,. Heck you moved to Costa Rica - the tethers have been untied
  14. Hint - embrace your creativity and stop the shop impulse
  15. Oh my - you guys missed all the excitement! https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/volcano-eruption-resumes-iceland-meteorological-office-2022-08-03/
  16. They just have not changed the name of the store. I think they bought 15 items and about half were 99cents - rest up to $3 or so. Still decent value esp for non food goods - major brands. Also there is a huge former Albertsons directly across (part of the big anti-trust divestiture) that caters to Latino and Middle Easter shoppers. Great prices gotta be selective. Those on tight budgets get a 2fer and can use their EBT cards. And a bus stop on a major street (Pacific Coast Hwy)
  17. Dad & wife went to 99cent store yesterday and reported bare bare shelves.
  18. I;d be more inclined to encourage a Charlie & car buddies to have an empanada making party like the holiday tamale making gatherings
  19. I think this was a one-off. Did not explode in MW. At end kf washing maybe I did drop it - but the explosive nature of the end made me think ? Maybe stress over time, IU am more pissed about losing a beloved bowl. It was a nested set and the 2 larger ones are MIAn- that moving too many times/storage thing
  20. Oh yesterday was also when my ancillary big computer screen that helps with my vision decided to bite the dust...At least my sister left a decent size new monitor somewhere here She shows up next week. So before I go to Best Buy...
  21. Of course she came to mind with the death of Vin Scully. If you believe in "up there" sure she is chatting away with him about those Dodgers

    Dinner 2022

Very nice summer meal. Don't think you need to guess on delicious. Funny rib aside - we went with friends to a Fireman's fundraiser BBQ once and the main was grilled beef ribs. My friend went around to diners abbout to throw plates away and snagged bones for dogs back home Very attractive woman who could charm the 'ants off anyone.
  23. My smartypants tendencies usually just annoy others. Last night it bit me in the butt. I always poo pooed my stepmother's fear of exploding Pyrex in microwave Happened to her son once. For dinner I reheated some leftovers in a vintage Pyrex bowl. Leisurely ate my delicious mess so completely cooled off. Rinsed the bowl .Set it down in sink to get a dishtowel and kabooom! A nice assortment of shard sizes and lots if itty bitty ones . Of course some pellets went down disposal. I reached all inside but must have gotten stuck somewhere. Waiting for plumber's call back. Luckiiy stepmother's sink is a plugged up mess so "2 birds with 1 stone'?
  24. Not having eaten them or wanted to I can't comment on flavor. Stepmother made Sultze sometimes - kinda loose not compressed. but I was not tempted. Give me some cow's foot soup Latin style and comfort sets in.
