My painters must have given me the good stuff

Heritage and Heirloom Foods - Do The Words Now Mean Nothing?
heidih replied to a topic in Kitchen Consumer
Avocado - yes hard as a rock on tree but there is a definite change when they are ready to pick. Skin and stem look "different". Apparently the freakin squirrels have not figured this out - biting into rocks; ruining before ready. Pears - similar with Bosc type on my two trees. https://usapears.org/bosc/ -
Ah melba toast! What would have been considered a simple yet elegant luncheon. The dilled cauliflower surprised me.

Nice! There is something magical to me about ocean arches. -
I am with you on the small avocados as the pit is also proportionately small. Good value. Plus in the bag a bazillion clueless shoppers have not given them a hard squeeze

Heritage and Heirloom Foods - Do The Words Now Mean Nothing?

Aren't Heritage and Heirloom (aside from marketing tools) just a breed reference. Nothing to so with how raised/ I don't buy unless from a Farmers Market and I can ask questions. -
I put w/o cover. Dries it a bit. Odor? Should be none

That is why I said cremini at different ages. Yes a bit different but same fellow. Shitake I get fresh here in nice condition - I just do not like them. Chanterelles and morels are harder to get right here but I appreciate the differences.

Most ground pork from major chain markets these days is hyper lean so factor that in - may be dry. Part kf the whole "the other white meat" movement. Taste super mild.

I just looked at the weekly flyer for the one closest. 6 miles. Never heard of it. Nothing I would go to. A lot of packaged product. Quality of fresh stuff ???

What mushrooms? I missed the wild ones due to Pandemic access. Best I can do over cremini (various ages) is King Oyster. My dry shroom source dried up from Hungary - no travel I could order but when you know your source and have expectations on quality - blind ordering is risky to me.

I did think they looked "loose". Maybe just sealed.

Local vs. national ice cream brands: Which do you choose? Any favorites?
heidih replied to a topic in Ready to Eat
Yes coffee is reliable and I'll go mint-chip for nostalgia's sake once in a while. My childhood best friend's favorite. I am loyal to Thrifty's and will try a different flavor if it sparks my interest. The line on a hot day is something else, and the customer age range is toddler to geriatric with the walker. How the adjacent Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors stays in business I do not know. https://www.lamag.com/digestblog/thrifty-ice-cream-history/ If I stumble upon a gelato shop that taste tests well I'll do coffee or hazelnut with an espresso pour over if available. -

Beautiful vistas as always. I had to laugh at the first one on the breakfast patio with the utility poles and lines spanning across. That is life if we want the utilities. I have a neighbor with too much money and too little sense constantly lobbying the other neighbors to chip in and urge the utility companie to go underground in his main city view area. Bozo. The cost and the ecological damage would be ridiculous. The beach rock formations again delight. -
Yes as we've discussed.

it all lookswonderful but the zuke flowers are tugging at me though I would not use whatever that heavy looking dip is- obscures that baby baby sweetness. Oh and the octopus! Thanks!

I am particularly enjoying the crispy add ins like glazed pistachios, spiced pumpkin seeds and the wider array of vegetable combinations than I am used to. Just called a new locksmith who is Palestinian and he lit up when I told him about the book. Oh that beautiful people-food connection.

At least you did not end up flinging stew all over including your person!

The perfect breakfast, lunch, or dinner un beastly hot weather, especially on rye.

Interesting. You've taken me back to Red Eye Gravy. One of my plant vendors is from Oaxaca and his mom has an organic plantation - he sometimes has her beans for sale and said she uses the coffee in dark moles.

Yes Melissa's is trusted. Usually for their more exotic but they have good quality control in my experience. Plus you have the TJ return w/o question policy. I do find the non gigantor shallots iAsian markets, especially Vietnamese.

Why are they removing crust and giving away? I have Knoedel on the brain between you and @Duvel I almost caved to a box of matzo ball mix the other day as a quick craving fix for just a few. But $5USD seemed silly. Will have to do from scratch. I know - not exactly rocket science.
