  1. Dry Creek : Deux Amis and Wilson are located in an old tin barn. Great Zins. Russian River: Arista does good pinot, Hartford Court across the board makes good wine. I second Mikes suggestion on Bella and Mangosteen's suggestion on Swan. Iron Horse is usually a good stop for bubbles. In Santa Rosa make an appointment with Siduri
  2. We are visiting some cheese producers on an overnight trip. What is up there that would keep a bunch of chefs happy for dinner??
  3. I'm in the beginning stages of planning a trip with a dozen or so chefs to wine country. Aside from Copia and CIA what other interesting educational opportunities are available? I was thinking about contacting a few wineries and looking into food/wine pairing things. Any ideas??

    Tough wine pairing

It's funny you mentioned beet risotto. In last the NY Times 2 weeks ago they reviewed Felidia in N.Y. and raved about a beet risotto with Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese and Balsamico Tradizionale. What a combo!
  5. I'll be in the area for a week starting Oct 7th. Which vineyards should I visit? Is anything special going on that week in the area?
  6. How funny!! I prepared Coq au Vin last night and sold about 15 orders.....everyone loved it (but I did not have pearl onions for the garnish)!!
  7. Over in Sonoma: Moshin, Arista (both on Westside Rd.) Both with good Pinot. In Dry Creek: Bella, Deux Amis. Bella's tasting room is in a hillside cave, they make several different Zins and Syrahs. Deux Amis is in a old tin barn with two barrels and a plank for a tasting room. They do 3 zins and a Petite Syrah. Ask for Jim (tell him I sent you!!)
  8. The owners got into a fist fight...in the dining room ....in the middle of service!!!!! Talk about dinner and a show! The place then shut down. I thought the food was inconsistent, but interesting.
  9. I totally agree on both points. Pasta Nostra is expensive, but I feel it is worth the money for the quality of the products he is using and the quality of service his staff provides. In particular Matt, who is on the dining room floor most of the time, is a home run. I also would add that IMHO, Norwalk offers many dining experiences that are on par with or even better than many of the surrounding towns.
  10. Didn't stay.....when the first rugrat let out a primal scream, I chugged my wine and ran down the street to Match. Don't get me wrong..Chef Dave is a real nice guy and I plan on eating there soon (and often). I just was not in the mood for romper room. The place was packed though, and good for them!
  11. Popped my head in last night......rugrat central. The owner greeted us with a child in his grasp. A passing stroller almost broke my ankle. Perhaps Sunday afternoon/early evening is not a good time to visit. I do like the idea of pizza and a decent wine list in a casual atmosphere. I hope they do well.
  12. South Norwalk: Pasta Nostra, Match, Barcelona (for people watching and a bar scene) My favorite in Greenwich is Gaia on Greenwich Ave.
  13. I'm looking for a wedding cake sized black & white cookie. Has anyone ever seen one?
  14. Go to nysun.com and check out the story
  15. Wow! Now that is an eye opener! Read about it today in the NY Sun. I once tasted a Ridge Zin that dated back to the 80's and I thought that was stretching it.
  16. My wife loves them, we are going in 2 weeks and she is already talking about them. I'm sure there are 1000 places that serve a good one, where would you go?
  17. I'm off to Paris for a week with my wife and we are torn b/w 2 apartments. One on the 4th near Place de Vosges and the other near Place de la Contrascarpe in the 5th. Which is a better location for proximity to food shopping/markets. Also, where are the better wine shops in Paris. I'm not necessarily looking for the older vintages, just a fairly priced shop with a wide selection. Any help is greatly appreciated.....JP
  18. The best breakfast at Hydro comes from the tap.
  19. Unfortunately, my friend (soon to be ex-friend) decided not to bring the Lafite. We were on a "bachelors" ski getaway in New Hampshire and he thought that with all of the othe adult beverages we were enjoying, it would be better to save it for another day.
  20. Take a ride down to St. Helena (20 min. south) and check out Cindys Backstreet Kitchen and Market. Both of these restaurants will give you better quality for about the same amount that you would spend in Wappo. If you have to stay in Calistoga though, I would recommend Calistoga Inn over Wappo.
  21. Having one tomorrow with dinner and I'm wondering what to expect. Anyone out there drink anything similar lately?? I know we are having rack of lamb and some capon. What food would go best with a wine like this??
  22. Looking for something new and I've seen this place in a few articles. Is it worth a stop? Any info (food, prices, wine list) would be helpful. Thanks
  23. Go once just to say you went there and then go to Donavons in SoNo for a decent burger.
