  1. I've been given a bottle of 1986 Sociando Mallet......it was in a temperature controlled cellar. any thoughts? I was going to bring it to dinner but I'm just not sure
  2. I recommend Lavagna in the east village good food, casual and a well priced, interesting wine list. Very casual funky atmosphere.
  3. I've been told by some that the 2001 vintage for pinot is worth buying into. So......any opinions?? Can anyone tell me about Rochioli Vineyard?
  4. Thanks Figgirl......I have a reservation for your place on Oct. 9th. I hear very nice things about your place. (I really like your wine list) the web site looks great......see you soon!
  5. I'll be in Sonoma 1st week of Oct. and I'm wondering where to go. I need 1 high end and 1 mid priced suggestion.......how about the surrounding areas such as Glen Ellen, Kenwood etc...
  6. Thanks for the info Bux.....I am a chef at a golf club up in Greenwich CT. On my last trip to Spain we were in Barcelona and Madrid. I am curious to see the difference in the food in the southern part of the country....if you have any more info please pass it on.
  7. Will be in Southern Spain the 1st week of Oct. and I am looking for guidance. I am in the hospitality business and enjoy "4 star" establishments as well as local restaurants that serve food that represents the area.....any help?
  8. You should really go to Meigas in Norwalk. It is 2 exits south of Westport and has been featured in Wine Spectator and NY Times recently said it is one of the top 5 Spanish restaurants in the country. The food is outstanding, the price is right and it is 10 minutes from Westport.

    Best places in Napa

Go to Calistoga springs...have a mud bath and massage (in the A.M.) ....go get a picnic lunch at oakville grocery and tour 1 or 2 vineyards. I'm sure you will want to relax and not spend too much time in the car.
  10. Bastide Odeon in the 15th? It is near the Luxemborg Gardens
  11. The best restaurant inn Greenwich is Rebeccas, in the Glenville section of town. Others may say Jean Louis but I think Rebeccas is tops.
  12. Many years ago at a restaurant near the South Street Seaport I had the worst meal of my life. The food came out burnt and not in the order in which we had ordered. No one had cleared any of our dishes, glasses etc..the reastaurant was in a state of total confusion. When we asked our waiter what was going on he told us that the entire kitchen staff walked out just before service , the waiters were cooking and he was a bus boy who had to become a waiter for the evening! He then picked up all of our dishes and silver ware in his arms and dropped a fork on the floor. Being unable to bend over to pick up the fork he kicked it (like dribbling a soccer ball) all the way across the dining room floor into the kitchen!!!!
  13. How about Norwalk CT ?! Meigas, the highest rated Spanish restaurant in CT (fka Meson Galicia) is top notch and in South Norwalk(SoNo) there is Match........great pizza, good bar scene.....the kitchen is run by a Todd English alumni.
  14. I highly recommend Delfina in the Mission in SF
  15. Flip, It's going down in my basement, so I will do without the glass door and other non-essentails.
  16. Went to wine enthusiast over in Elmsford today to look into a wine cooler (200 bottle size) Any suggestions , advice or recommendations are appreciated
  17. there is a place in Darien.....Coramandel ? It is in the Good Wives shopping center. Zagat give it favorable ratings and all of my friends swear by it.
  18. I see there has been no mention of Artisnal.
  19. Had dinner there on fri. night. Food is good at best. All entrees come with the same starch & veg(provencale stuffed tomato,cous-cous and haricot vert) But what we had was well prepared and was very reasonably priced. Wine list is poor IMO. Very limited with poor representations of Bordeaux and Rhone wines. The decent wines they have are overpriced for the quality. The bar area which is seperate from the dining room was PACKED with kids from Fairfield U and Sacred Heart, however they did not infringe on our dining experience at all. Would I go again? Yes I would. However I would call ahead to check on a corkage fee>

    Lavagna

I agree, Lavagna is a good restaurant. The wine list is interesting (if a bit limited) and very well priced. The food is well prepared, the staff is friendly. Well worth the trip downtown.
  21. If you have a case of the munchies while you are driving, Exit 2 off of rte 91north in VT has a great place to get some food for the road. Take a right off of the ramp and its about a half mile down on the left side. I have no idea what the name of the place is but they make egg sandwiches in the AM and they have a nice salad display and sandwiches in the PM. Vermont cheeses ETC.
  22. After Napa I'm in SF for a few days....where should I go? How about some mid-priced bistro places also.
  23. Has anyone out there been to Tra Vigne lately? I haven't been there in 3 years. Is it still as wonderful as when Chef Chiarello was riding the ranges there?
