  1. ditto but give me double that please and I don't need a lemon!
  2. I use regular canning jars of all kinds and just make nice labels on the computer and sometimes get all "Martha Stewart" and make nice lid covers..one cover that looks pretty (no pic right now sorry) is to cover the lid with thinly peeled birch bark and tie it with a natural looking rafia I am not crafty but this is easy and looks really rustic and pretty I think ... the canning jars are beautiful in these links I can see they would be nice for giving gifts ..but really they are kind of expensive for mass canning/giving ..and there are tons of jars in the markets right now ..since we are in the season.... that have pretty shapes look nice .. it is more cost effective for me to just make the jar look nicer with my food inside and a nice label....just a suggestion if you are starting out! however some of those jars are tempting that is for sure!
  3. I agree with making curries ..or even a Chile Colorado with them but I leave them whole and serve with the bones
  4. fry an egg sunny side up (barely cook it!!!) ..two eggs for me and I love this with duck eggs then slip them onto a reheated enchilada a dab of sour cream and fresh chopped cilantro fking A that is my all time favorite way to eat a perfect fresh egg!!!
  5. drink beer and wine out of mason jars and eat peanuts and toss peanut shells on the ground/floor..where ever actually... for ambiance .. ..oh wait that is where I go
  6. Cdh did it fizz? I can not wait to know!
  7. this is hard you know because where you are going has pretty fantastic food you are not going to want for anything! besides if you get homesick it is not that far to come back!!! are you moving to the city?
  8. well maybe you are depends on who you want the people you sell to to be I guess .. good luck to you
  9. I was wondering if anyone knows I have three pepper plants from a really unusual hot pepper my friend gave me from her family in the Bahama's .she made traditional Island hotsauce from it (peppers and vinegar!) ...I still have not figured out what type of pepper it is and I have looked and looked....asked and asked. .anyway I dried one and saved the seeds then grew the plants ...well they are very healthy in pots and getting big! However ..no signs of peppers and it is August ...can I winter this over inside? Should I keep a grow light on it if I do? I want to keep this plant growing and thriving the best I can through the winter if possible so I can figure out the species as well as get more of these peppers! ... so if anyone has kept pepper plants over inside can you tell me how you did it?
  10. Jeepers, that seems like a LOT of herbs. Ya know, I could stop by and ... just kidding :-) ← bring hedge clippers I am not kidding I have gone so far as to turn rosemary stems into skewers and my friends are not buying it anymore
  11. Why dont you dry the herbs at least? ← I have filled up most places in my house with bunches hanging to dry! thanks though!!!
  12. What do they sell for out your way? I don't know that you're in the minority - but my concerns weren't an issue. We sell a bottle for 1.85 CDN, and they've become very popular, very quickly. I've restocked them twice and I'm almost out, so will be placing another order this week. ← I have seen them at 2.50 a 12 oz bottle!!! but again it is at the most pretentious market in town..they jack up the price on everything with out shame! ..I am sure if the price were less than $2 a bottle here I would not have even noticed! and I am sure that if another market carried them they would be more reasonable in price.... I love to spend money on good food and drinks but that just seemed out of line to me!
  13. blackberries are ripening faster than I can pick them and for the first time since I have lived her I have full tomato vines...I am so worried I will see black spots and loose everything that I check them daily and water them by hand my fig trees limbs are touching the ground they are so full of figs ... herbs are insane and I am just letting them go now ..no one will take anymore from me!!! rhubarb is still producing and tastes wonderful still cardoon has huge purple blooms...dahlias...second bloom of the honeysuckle...hollyhocks.....(anyone want some seeds???) I am starting to think about what types of garlic I am going to plant this year.... it is so hard to leave and go to work this time of year ..I just want to stay home and enjoy this!!!
  14. I keep looking at this and going all nostalgic ..you really hit the sentimental button on me with this one! it is like the Fall River Chow Mien!!! I can not say anymore Chris if you know what I mean you will understand... something's are so etched into your memory and evoke such intense and happy emotions and a Pu Pu platter for me is just one of them ...so here I will babble away..sorry ...sniff you got me with this one ...shit.... when I will a little girl growing up in Providence RI ...where all the food all around me..in each and every house... was the most impressive Southern Italian ..I think in the world.... in our home mostly we ate Caribbean style or Middle Eastern Jewish food (eclectic childhood yes!) on our birthdays things changed and we were always asked where we wanted to go out to dinner ..and the answer was always an outstanding "CHINESE!!!" on the drive there it is all we talked about where the Pu Pu platters... and before the servers handed us our menus even we would yell "Pu Pu platter and no forks please!!!" the hell with all the rest of the foods ...yeah they were good ..but did they come to the table with a fire pit and sticks to toast your food????? we could play with fire at the table for crying out loud!!!! and then eat the results!!! My mother died when I was three ...one of the things she left us with is that ..she taught us right along with learning to eat with a fork ...to eat with chopsticks ...so Chinese food always brought us closer to her so we had our mother closer we were in a darkly red exotic place and giant booths to snuggle up in... we had a fire pit with tiers of tasty foods we could have no where else they not only gave us sticks to cook with but eating with chopsticks as well???? ..how lucky could a kid get anyway? although I have see many "Pu Pu's" when I travel to Hawaii...I have yet to see the Pu Pu Platter I grew up with outside of RI or Mass.... but really it would not be the same if I did thanks for the memories
  15. I have no idea how many herbs and spices I have but here are a few of them ..the rest are hanging to dry right now my garden is bursting! first the savory side of the stove these are my "handy" things for cooking then the "sweet" side for baking also my curry drawer that is for the premixed curry powders I like ..(I do make my own curries for the most part ... but nothing on the planet tastes like my childhood as closely as Betapac curry powder from Jamaica so I always keep plenty on hand!!!)
  16. YES YES YES to everything I am so excited you did this!!!! you are going to see just how easy this is to do and be hooked I betcha!!! just putting the lid on a jar of this stuff is enough to capture the yeast in the air and I am sure if you did not peel it and just rinsed the ginger there was yeast on that as well ... I am so glad you tasted it! ... when I offer this as a spritzer when folks come over they are usually quite stunned at how good it is ...nothing fancy this is real true(Caribbean) Island style ginger beer ginger ..water add sugar later ..it is easier to dissolve in ..I will pour some off and dissolve the sugar in a small amt then pour it back into the batch of beer ...if you add it before you put it in the fridg
  17. Pam you asked about the price? well I am in the minority here would I buy these considering the cost? absolutely not! I have to say someone gave me one to taste ... I can not believe how expensive a combo of 12oz of fizzy water and juice can be! I am not surprised that the only place around here you can find them is at the Metropolitan Market... a very pretentious overpriced store that I do not go into unless I can not find what I need anywhere else...and even then I will reconsider my menu before shopping there! yes they are good ...no I would not buy it.... I could make a pitcher of spritzers with fresh juice for the price of one bottle!!!! ...I can not imagine drinking something this expensive that did not give me a buzz!!! So it is less sweet than soda? squeeze a lemon! sorry I was just astounded when I tasted this then saw the price ... I guess if it does not matter to you how much you spend on 12 oz of fizzy fruit flavored drinks then this is one of the best ...but no it is not for me! I would rather buy a piece of fruit and drink water with it!
  18. Well for sure our seafood is different from Atlantic seafood so I a would eat as much as possible of that before I left... the rest you are going to find all you want of in NY!
  19. that is fantastic please let me know ..I would seriously buy a juicer if it works ..because pushing it through the strainer while traditional and all takes forever!!! ginger beer is addictive stuff I am telling you! I put a splash in ice cold Momokowa Diamond sake sometimes! the two together are so good! then add a squeeze of lemon
  20. the straining is a pain in the ass so I bet a juicer would be fantastic..try it and let me know...maybe I will get one!
  21. I dont know I have never tried a juicer ...but if I had one I would and I would do the same quantities for sure.. I imagine it would work very well!
  22. it is sharp and refreshing and mine has fizz from just the ginger and water I agree about the short storage you make it and keep in the fridg but try to use it up in a week tops ..you will know when it is not good anymore ...it goes flat tasting ...
  23. this is a very "rustic" recipe
  24. it should have read 2lb to 4 quarts I will edit it ..it was early I am sorry!!! the fizz comes from the wild yeast same way it does when you leave fresh squeezed cider out ... I have not had to leave it for more than 48 hours add lemons to your drink later and some fizzy water ..more sugar whatever
