  1. Hi there ...I am a crazy shopper and eater I never make a list ..I shop almost every day ..and I plan what I am going to eat by what is available and looks appealing to me ..if I crave something and plan it ..I am usually setting myself up for disapointment because my ingredients are either not available or old and funky looking ...so I just go pick around in my favorite markets and see what looks good ..it is actually relaxing for me to do this either before or after work ... this is probably not the best way to spend money ...because I do spend a lot on food ..but I buy good food ..just what I need for a day or two and never have much waste ....this helps with the over eating as well because...there is no temptation with having all that premade food around .. I do have a pantry full of basic stock items but nothing is easy to grab.and eat.. you have to prepare everything so that helps with impulse eating!!! I lost a lot of weight a few years ago and found my instincts to shop and eat like this keeps me from gaining it back ...
  2. FWIW, there is a type of curry that is thickened by frying the coconut until it's brown, which is kinda like toasting, no? ← That makes sense... I am glad I went with my gut and toasted it!...I usually put coconut in my Caribbean style curries and thought it would be a good combo..so.. ..I made them this morning because I was obssessed! I used two tsps of betapac curry 1/2 tsp of pure coconut extract and topped them with toasted coconut flakes..they smell to die for!!! I am so excited with these!!! I also made a batch with some magnificant New Mexican Red chile and plan to dip those in dark chocolate ... I have to say making these are are so much fun!!! ..even better than a big valium for relieving my stress level Desiderio: thank you so much for the welcome!
  3. I am going to be depressed now until I can find and try some fresh sardines .. it seems so unfair!
  4. Hello there! I am brand new to Egullet and have just read through all 20 pages of this thread and am beside myself over marshmallows! Years ago when my kids were little I made some simple vanilla marshmallows with a very low grade success ...I was always a cook and never good at baking or confectionaries ..suddenly when my youngest got his own place I could bake! Go figure on that one! Now I come here find this recipe and I am astounded at just how much fun this is and how perfectly these marshmallows came out . I did the Nightscotsman's strawberry and vanilla...brought a HUGE plate of them to work and watched as people tasted them ...the faces were priceless!!! The expressions of surprise that someone actually could and would make marshmallows and that they would be marshmallows were hysterical! I am a nurse in a very busy clinic . Feeding my coworkers wonderful food is such a joy ..feeding them home made marshmallows was insane fun!!! One PA I work with said "who makes these I thought people just picked them off trees" he kept going back and tasting them saying "these are really marshmallows!" Thanks so much for filling my brain with such a lovely diversion!!! you folks have fantastic ideas and the pictures are beautiful!.. the options are obviously endless! I will curry anything so I have to try the curried marshmallows next and I was thinking of topping them with flaked coconut...not sure if I should go with fresh toasted ? what do you think with the curry flavor?
  5. please just tell the truth as someone who has learned a great deal from honest people that do ..especially where food is concerned....I appreciate it and will always buy from people that do give it to me straight vs people that don't .... one of those brownies may be frozen still and if she finds out she will not trust you again ..I know I wouldn't but if you carefully explained to me the reasoning and had me taste a previously frozen one vs a fresh one to see that the quality is still true ...you have a teaching moment and it is win win....

  13. I see it all the time here in the Seattle/ Tacoma area ..but only in the restaurants not at my Korean friends houses..when I asked my girlfriend ..who happens to be Korean "why?" ..she laughed and said "why not it tastes good with grilled meat doesn't it?" and she is right it does so why not? the only bad part to me is I don't usually like how it is prepared ..it tastes like that Miracle Whip stuff instead of mayo and is usually very sweet ..each chef and their on recipe however so I keep trying it and hoping.....because I think it would be good with grilled spicy meats and seafood ...it is just so far I have yet to find the one I actually like the taste of...
  14. OK OK my absolute favorite sardine included lunch to die for!!! two nice thick crusty slices of sourdough bread lots of home made mayo on each side of the bread a big red ripe beefsteak tomato sliced and a thick slice of walla walla onion then a can of drained sardines and lots of fresh cracked pepper and many napkins! my dad and I used to eat this sandwich together when I was little (less the Walla Walla I grew up in Providence RI we did not have them there! we used red onion instead)

I take this snack for lunch quite often and no one is aware I am eating sardines! this is a Cambodian snack served on those egg sized mottled green and white eggplants I just slice them up and they are eaten raw ..like a cracker for the dip... very tasty combo! here is the method one can of drained bristling sardines in olive oil one fine minced jalepeno pepper juice of one lime mash it all up well and spread on the eggplant slices ...
