  1. What a unique memorial garden. I really like the idea of the recurring strawberry plants for people to pause and enjoy a moment. Truly unique.
  2. I like your "Take one for the Team" attitude....pictures please :-)
  3. I am very impressed with your sponge toffee! I may have to book you for some lessons in the perfect sponge toffee :-) One thing I need to know, what is Portuguese Cream Salt that you used in the chocolate caramels? I am wondering how easy it will be to find around my neck of the woods :-)
  4. Thank YOU! That is what I said...so I may not need another pan but I couldn't leave it on the shelf like that :-) It would be a crime :-)
  5. I don't have a photo of it, but I scored a really nice AllClad fry pan for $1.50. I scored it at the local Salvation Army when I was actually looking for a little hand mixer to make icing for a cake I was baking. Now, how do I tell DH that I needed that awesome pan and could not leave it on the shelf!
  6. The pictures look lovely! YUM! You guys get the neatest restaurant food!
  7. Thanks for sharing all the wonderful pictures! It looks like it was a very productive and fun weekend. I hope to be at the next one :-)
  8. I look forward to seeing the report on this event! Sorry I am missing another one but school obligations prevented me this year! I hope there will be another one so I can go again! Hope you have nice weather for it!
  9. Wow! Some new places you found on route I see. Sorry I couldn't make this trip. You will have more room for pretzels this time! Powdered peanut butter in a grocery store, who knew! Got any ideas what you plan to do with it?
  10. Yum! I want one!!!! You know coffee and chocolate is my weakness. They are really sweet. Love the decoration colours. How is the infused flavour?
  11. Well, that is an interesting description of flavours....hate to hear good alcohol was binned but thinking of that combo of flavours I certainly can't blame him for binning it! Like the new glasses!
  12. I am still dreaming of Chef Dave's meal from 4 years ago. The mushroom soup was delicious! Sorry I will be missing it again this time....but on the positive side I will be writing my final exams and will be done with school. Sign me up for the Niagara 2015!!!
  13. Thanks everyone! I will take your suggestions to the girls and see what we can experiment with. I am liking the idea of an empanada.....no real packaging required just napkins. The links are really interesting....might try some of those recipes out!
  14. I just tried Maple whiskey over the holidays. It is made in Quebec with real Maple Syrup and I have to say it was a nice flavour. Not sure if the flavours you mentioned will make me want to buy flavoured whiskey since it isn't my favourite to start with. Maple Whiskey was a nice combo
  15. They were trying to keep it sort of to the period but I am pretty sure if we give a snack some sort of a Medevial name it might pass :-) I like the suggestions...good to know about the pretzels. I am glad I asked!
  16. I have been taking courses at a local community college and my classmates and I have been asked to sell snacks at the college Medevial Times Festival in the spring. I am trying to come up with ideas of a simple snack to sell at the festival as a fundraiser for our class. The canteen sells the usual festival fair and some other students are selling cotton candy. I am trying to come up with simple things to sell that a few us in the class (home cooks not pros) can come up with. I was thinking warmed soft pretzels but have no idea of the logistics of selling a few hundred of these. I figured soft pretzels was the closest thing to bread sticks which I figure is something they would snack on during Medevial times. I am looking for advice on keeping it simple. Any suggestions?
  17. The sad thing is, people buy the chocolate looking cakes from the grocers that are mass produced for cheap prices. I have never made decadent chocolate cakes for clients but I have purchased them and I know the work and ingredients that go into them. For truffles, I learned not to feel bad to turn down orders of people trying to get a price match to the local grocer or the horror...a drug store truffle. You just can't compete with the price of the cheap chocolate and I don't want to. Still, it would be fun to play with some chocolate dipped strawberries...only problem now is finding a strawberry in January in Canada is probably not a good idea.
  18. My experience with chocolate covered strawberries is, they are best dipped and eaten the day of dipping with little refrigeration. I would buy some strawberries and experiment with them to see what they can tolerate. Once they went into the fridge, the berries started to dry out at the area that was exposed to air and the chocolate sweated leaving streaks through the chocolate. Here is a link to a company that does chocolate covered strawberries and then ships them. Perhaps they have a technique you can figure out. http://www.chocolatecoveredcompany.com/
  19. I saw those heart shaped chocolates and thought Oh Yeah! Valentines Day is just around the corner....gotta get on the Valentines Chocolates. Thanks for posting those lovely confections
  20. For me it is popcorn....especially the cheesy kind like Smartfood. It is versatile as dinner and a snack!
  21. You can say that again! I also find it happens when you have an audience!
  22. I love slow cookers! I usually put the ingredients into the crock the night before and put it in the fridge. In the morning I take the crock out of the fridge and place it into the outer shell and plug it in, turn it on low, and leave the house. I come home to smells that are wonderful and sit down to eat almost immediately. It is one of the most convenient ways to cook and it takes such little prep time. I scored one from a thrift store and see them there all the time! Why someone would get rid of one is beyond me, but I will happily score a deal.
  23. This does sound Amazing! Any chance of one staying around long enough to take a photo and post it here. I am dying to see this confection as it seems to hold all of my favourite things in one great package! Yumm!
  24. One thing we found a pain when dealing with a power outage is Debit! Make sure you have a bit of cash on hand as some local grocery stores did open for supplies when we had a power outage but they only took cash. In this day of plastic cards it is easy to forget the days of buying stuff with cash :-)
