David, that lemon bar is calling my name. Looks really good.
  2. Kent great blog!..Your pictures are wonderful. What type of camera are you using, and in the restaurants, what settings, since you seem to have a good light source, and I can't imagine you would be using the flash. Thanks.

Wendy, did you like the movie? I saw it last Friday and loved it.
  6. Hi Jessica, Loving your blog and your kitties! NYC is the one East Coast city I would LOVE to live in. Have fun!
  7. OH, I would love to participate, except the cucs haven't come to the markets yet here. For the last two years, we've done about a dozen jars or so of spicy dill pickles. Its a combo from Balls Blue book of Canning and a recipe that I found online. We use spicy peppers/garlic/dill. I'll be happy to post pics when we get down to business in a week or two if it isn't too late. To contribute, here is a really easy and quick habanero pickled onion that I did recently with carnitas. My boyfriend and another foodie friend were quite hesitant to try them, but then when they did, it was a surprise, as they really liked them. 3 cups finely sliced white onions rings 4 cups boiling water 1/4 cup orange juice 1/4 cup white vinegar 1/2 cup water 1/2 tbsp dried Mexican oregano, toasted and crumbled 1 Habanero chili, finely sliced Put the onions into a colander and immerse them in the boiling water for a few seconds. Drain and put into a glass or non-reactive bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Set aside to season for about 2 hours before using.
  8. Dave, I love your pictures of your town.....it is truly fabulous to see villages like that still exist. I've never been to France, really really want to go sometime, and your pictures look like something out of a movie, really great. It's nice to not see Walmarts and Ikea and Home Depot at every turn.

    Dinner! 2007

Everyone's dinners look wonderful as usual. My boyfriend and I are thinking of trying the atkins here next week, so we are going carb crazy, to get some out our systems. So here are some pics from this and last week: Starting off last Tuesday or Monday, with hamburgers (with our homemade pickles), and Tyler Florence's Ultimate Onion rings. The rings were okay, since I did the recipe to a T, by the time it was time to eat, they were cold, and didn't taste very good reheated...other than that, pretty tasty. Then last Weds or Thurs, we had chicken stir fry. Here is the stir fry of the veggies, I liked the colors in the pic: Here's the chicken ala America's Test Kitchen: Here's the final plate: On another night, I just felt like having dessert, which isn't very often, so here are the port brownies with Dr. Bob's chocolate chip, hot fudge and raspberries Last but not least, last night's and tonight's dinner and probably tomorrow night. My boyfriend's yummy lasagna. Gotta get our carbs in before we start atkins.

    Dinner! 2007

Ann, Your tortillas look wonderful. I recently went cheap and bought a plastic maker, and the tortillas were way too thick. Where did you find that beauty? They look really thin.
  12. I'm not sure but it might. I have the local Comcast feed up here. The "Star" show is coming on our channel at 9p tonight. Maybe with Dish Network you are getting the East Coast feed? Rachel Ray is aggravating at all times. ←
  13. It's very interesting when you hear of programming in different parts of the country. I am currently watching Next FoodNetwork star, and I am on the west coast too. Not sure if Dish Network determines the difference or not.
  14. David, enjoying your blog very much. I do a similiar thing with a 3 ring binder, but I usually cut and paste, since I find recipes in magazines, that are a column, and then have it sectioned off by type of food. It used to be one big drawer, with random scraps of paper stuffed in there, until I got semi-organzied one rainy day, and made up the binder. Blog on.

Bruce, very sorry to hear about your white dog....I send best wishes to your family.
  16. David, your hen looks great! I bought one for my grandma a few years back, but she couldn't really use it, so she gave it to me. I tried it once, but it disappointed I still have it, so you may inspire me to try it again.

Shelby, those pictures are great! I love the pizza.
  18. Doesn't ring a bell right now. I hope you are surviving the hot Summer in Sacramento. My Sister lives in Carmichael and tells me it's been pretty hot down there. ← It's getting managable right now. Thanks for thinking of us!
  19. David thanks for the great blog. Your pictures and writing are wonderful. BTW, do you know a guy named Jordan L. that works for your airlines?

    Dinner! 2007

Wendy, you too can make port brownies. I am almost embarrassed to say this, but use a box brownie mix ( I like the Hershey's triple chocolate) Instead of two tablespoons of water, use two tablespoons of port. It gives the slightest hint of port in the brownies and very tasty. I also like to add extra chocolate chips in the mix, or cut up candy of your choice, not peanut butter cups anymore, and you probably wouldn't be able to use those either, but andes mints, or any other candy works well as long as it has chocolate.

    Dinner! 2007

Everyone's dinners look great. Here is a dinner from the other night. Pork chops in Jerk marinade, ala Emeril. The sauce is bbq'd gingered sauce. The potatoes are roasted in garlic olive oil with parsley, salt and pepper. Tonight's Father's Day dinner for my dad, was chateaubriand with a red wine reduction sauce (forgot to photo with the sauce), potatoes dauphinois ala Tony Bourdain, salad with raspberry vinegarette, blue cheese, bacon and dried cranberries. The bread was sourdough with a roasted garlic butter. Dessert was port brownies with ice cream.
  22. Could you talk about that cranberry citrus salad...that sounds good. I am preparing my menu for Father's Day dinner tomorrow and just bought some dried cranberries, but I may alter my original plans for something like that. Thanks for blogging during a busy week!
  23. are those blueberries? Hmmm where do blueberries grow rampant? It almost looks like Northern California in the Sierras, but I can't be sure.

Peter, your photos are totally pornalicious! Here is last night's dinner, french onion soup with homemade stock, salad with belguim endive and dijon vinegarette and french blue cheese. As a bonus, here is Friday's lunch.....cheese and serrano ham, bread and olives completed with a nice glass of pinot grigio. Lovely.
