  1. Where's the best place to get live lobster that isn't terribly overpriced? I'm in Queens but like to drive. We sometimes to to Stew Leonards in Conneticut or White Plains. thanks. Susan
  2. My SO and I would sometimes go to Gandhi, a restaurant on 345 E 6th St. While walking there, we would stop in this Indian grocery store on 1st avenue, maybe between 4th and 5th street. They have all sorts of grains and beans there, great selection. Lots of beer too, from all over the world. And a little cat that wanders around. this place is definietly on 1st, on the west side of the street. You have to go down a few steps. good luck.
  3. My new re-discovered summer pleasure are those Sno-cones! I found them after about 40 years at a large market in Lancaster, PA. Haven't had one since I was about 10. These are those shaved iced things served in a cone-shaped paper cup. Now whenever I see one at a festival, I just HAVE to have one. but they're not 10¢ any more. Susan
  4. We like East Japanese Restaurant 253 W 55th St, New York - (212) 581-2240 And Japonica, 100 University Pl., New York, NY 10003 , between 12th and 13th Sts. 212-243-7752 Not terribly fancy schmancy. but really nice. Susan
  5. I made a BIG batch of cold pasta pesto with chicken for avery large crowd. It will be served tonight at an event. When I get to the location and get ready to serve it, it might be kind of dry. How can I moisten it? Chicken broth? water? Cook's illustrated had an article and it said to put some mayo in the pesto sauce. this is just Classico jarred sauce with penne. What should I moisten it with? thanksl please respond asap. Susan
  6. St. Andrews on 44th between 5th and 6th. Cute bartenders wear kilts, fabulous selection of single malt scotch.
  7. Stir it in scrambled eggs. When you make pasta alfredo, stir some in the alfredo sauce. Google smoked salmon and you'll get a load of things. or Send it to me! Susan
  8. We had gone to Maloney and Porcelli, sort of near 49th and 5th, my SO pronounced the steak absolutely fabulous! Cut like buttah! Susan
  9. Be careful of your credit card bill. It might jump out and bite you!
  10. WOW! Can I come with you? (-: Susan
  11. Mascarpone, are you by any chance a secret shopper? Your review of Junior's sounded so professional. I've been there, but for dinner only. And yes, the waiter is very observant and stuff just seems to magically appear on the table.

    Anniversary Picnic

And are you allowed to drink wine in public like that? Just wondering, as I've wanted to do that for awhile. Or should it be soda? I had a picnic with my SO recently before a concert in a park. Got there early. I had to work beforehand, so got a nice prepared veggie salad from the market, picked up two Quiznos subs (he loves Bob from the commericals), and I made a crab dip and brought raw veggies. couple of cans of soda. After the concert, went to Baskin Robbins and got two sundaes. Drove to a park that was along side the Husdon River, sat on a bench in the darkness, around 11pm and ate and watched the starts. So quiet, it was wonderful.
  13. It might be the MaMa Buddha, the address seems correct. But I checked out the menu on MenuPages and it doesn't list a Vegetarian chicken dish. maybe try calling them? sorry. Susan
  14. We've been to this one and it was TERRIBLE! We wouldn't go back if you paid us. The appetizer "pork" ribs were so bad, my SO wouldn't eat them. I forget what else we had, but I took most of it home for a terrible lunch the next day. I think I had some kind of "chicken" and SO had some kind of "beef". So bad, we still laugh about it. On a MUCH MUCH better note, there is a place kind of near Bleecker street, near the Biography book store (kind of near the Magnolia bakery) diagnolly across the street, a corner Chinese restaurant that has vegetarian General Tso's chicken that is so amazing! Absolutely delish. I think they have a vegetarian "duck" too. But it's a regular chinese place, so any non-veggies would be happy too. But I just love that veggie general tso's chicken. It's crisp and the sauce is so similar. Only about $10 too. Sorry I can't remember the name, I'll try to contact someone who lives in the area. But we stand in front of the Magnolia bakery, walk towards the right, diagnolly cross the street, it's a corner chinese place. Any more suggestions? But that place on Pell was terrible.
  15. I live in Flushing, Queens, NY and a co-worker told me that under the LIRR in FLushing, are a couple of stores and one has a candy-making stand in the middle. They actually make it in the store and sell it cheap. Flushing in Queens has a large Asian population and I'm going to try to go soon to check it out. but i'd love to find a place in C-town that makes it fresh.
