  1. ping pong used to do an all you can eat for £20 on sundays - not sure if tahts still running but good for the money...
  2. whilst i would normally run screaming from this sort of thing i must admit the menu does look rather nice!
  3. How does it compare with bar shu?
  4. We really enjoyed our meal at Frannys recently. Clam and chilli pizza was fantastic as was the cannoli! V good wine list and cocktails too - would definitely recommend a visit if you are nearby.
  5. Had a very enjoyable meal at bar shu last week, Pickled vegetables, Sliced pigs ear and a spicy prawn dish as well as a very good crispy beef dish (sorry - not at my most descriptive today!) service was v good too. As Jon mentioned earlier it is not cheap - £18 seemed to be the average price of seafood dishes but it was all v tasty..
  6. ummm how is the fact that mark hix loves the woseley and the ivy news?
  7. Maze is well worth it as is Petrus @ £30.00. The capital on a sunday is lovely - again £30.00 for 3 courses (+amuse bouche etc) but very little cheap wine( as in next to nothing under £30.00 although there are several btg) Arbutus/Wild Honey and L'autre Pied all come in way under budget and are also well worth a visit, as is Theo randall @ intercontinental which does a set lunch for about £21. L'atelier downstairs is doing a £19 2 course and about £25 3 course and the menu looked vey good indeed when i walked past the other day. Happy eating!
  8. Am i the only one who is bored by this now? When is the Summer menu due to start at The Modern and any hints on what we can expect? Cheers
  9. WOW! Ok so a huge thanks to everyone (especially Nathan) for recommending we ate here on our recent NYC trip. AMAZING is how i would sum it up. Arriving after a quick cocktail at PDT (i got huge kudos for dragging my friends there and just walking straight into the telephone booth- although they thought i was mad to begin with!) at around 9pm we were told tehre would be a bit of a wait however we had only just ordered our drinks at the bar when they seated us. Not wanting to miss out or order the wrong things, we were steered in the right direction by our server. Clab craws to start were delicious and fresh as you like and the berkshire pork was great too - i forget the third ingredient in the "gravy" coffee , egg and...? The pork belly buns were divine and i could have eaten a good couple of portions more but restrained ourselves and moved onto the squid salad, another winner. The skate wing was awesome, i wish we hadn't shared this dish - could have done with some more! The final dish of pork shoulder was so humoungous we offered it to the people nect to us as well to share some as we didn't want to waste it! We finished with a rhubarb dessert (sorry it is so vague, i have the menu at home but details are a bit sketchy now) which was by far my best rhubarb experience of the year and trust me there have been many! We drank sake to start and the helio wine i saw mentioned in another review, great, great GREAT! There really is no where like this in the UK and i hope Chef Chang expands our way in the not too distant future. I will definitely try noodle bar and am 100% committeed to getting a seat at KO next time too. Thanks for all the advice guys, WOW!
  10. go to fortnum and masons and buy the teas/biscuits/preserves etc
  11. Cafe Boheme. Despite the luke warm reviews if you fancy a salad or something along those lines it is pretty decent. 4 of us went pre theatre last week - one smoked trout salad, one beetroot and goats cheese, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and moules frites with 2 coffees, 3 bottles of water and wine (1 btle and 1 500ml carafe) came to £70 - pretty decent i thought.
  12. I thought his review on plane food was plane awful - lots of tired puns and little to no information on what he actually ate. Also - is it seriously true that he was told to get to the airport at 2pm for a 7pm reservation? Sounds astonishing even when you take the general T5 balls up into consideration...
  13. i agree - jasons food is modern - will be interesting to see the "british" aspect...
  14. Funnily enough, it's a far better website than Adour got. Two months after it opened, the website still has no online menu or wine list.I'm going to Benoit tomorrow night. They called to advise it's BYO, as they don't yet have a liquor license. ← so - how was it?
  15. Great review from Jan Moir this morning, although not really a surprise - Mark Hix must be the man with the midas touch really. Has anyone else eaten there - is it open to us mere mortals? http://areyoureadytoorder.co.uk/
  16. i would heartily reccommend it - there should be a thread on here somewhere about previuos years. It is a great chance to meet and chat to chefs and sample teeny tasting sized portions of their menus. Be prepared to spend a bit of cash though - it is the equivalent of a meal out with all the dishes coming in between about £4 and £8 i think and you'll easily get through up to 6 or so. Over the past couple of years i have seen Theo randall, Locatelli, Michel roux jnr, Marcus Wareing, Mark sargeant, Tom Aikens, Atol Kochar and Angela Hartnett and tries some wonderful dishes.
  17. is fitness the next foodie fad? God i hope not!

    "Behind You"

we would use "Backs" or "chaud" as opposed to behind you.
  19. Set lunch menu looks great - you can definitely see Clares touch on the new menu items - stunning!
  20. Thanks Jon - have never noticed them before, will check them out and report back!
  21. Short on inspiration at the moment - where can we go for a light lunch in the Bond street area? We are having dinner at Maze so do not want a big lunch - a salad and a glass of wine would be perfect.. Have done automat/fortnums etc was thinking about Cecconis? Has anybody been recently?
  22. Breakfast - head to Giraffe in the Brunswick centre by russel square tube, Ciao Bella on lambs conduit street is a cute little italian - not the best food ever but relaxed atmosphere, pianist in the evening and very enjoyable all the same. The Bleeding Heart tavern just off charterhouse street is also worth a look in as is Smiths of smithfields (on the ground floor) If you were feeling adventurous you could try St John or The Real Greek souvlaki bar which are on St John St near Smithfields too.
  23. thanks for all the advice, we are definitely planning on eating at the festival too but will check out as many of your recommendations as possible and post back next month.
