    Shrimp cocktail sauce

Maybe it's just me, but I like the storebought sauce, with extra horseradish added in. Lots of horseradish. Of course, I'm also a big fan of A-1 Sauce on my steak. I know, I know..... But now you've got me thinking, and I think I'll experiment a bit with this.

    Kumquats - Any ideas?

I was just reading about kumquats, and it occured to me that I've never cooked with them. I don't even know what they taste like. I read that they're sour, and I looove sour fruits. I can't believe I've been depriving myself of them. So, I plan on procuring some of these little guys soon, but it the meantime I wanted to know if anybody here has any favorite recipes that utilize them. What do they taste like? What do you do with them?

    Becoming a chef

When I was about 15 or 16, I mentioned to my dad (who taught me how to cook) that I might be interested in becoming a professional chef. His response: "Do you really want to spend the next 50 years of your life in the back of a hot restaurant?" I didn't. Of course, that's just me. But I like the fact that I cook as a hobby. I think I might get burned out if I did it for a living. Funny, another poster mentioned that a career as a chef is akin to a career in the entertainment industry. That's the field I ended up working in instead of cooking. Go figure.
  4. I'm dunking Oreos into milk as I type this. So good. So good.
  5. Always make sure that your immersion mixer is unplugged when you're changing attachments. That switch is veeeery sensitive. Trust me.
  6. That's a pretty good idea. Easy way to make money for both companies. Next, we'll have Major League Baseball sunflower seeds. Any other ideas?
  7. I had a small container of leftover mashed potatoes. I pressed them into a nonstick pan with some hot oil and began to fry them. Well, I tried to flip the thing too early and it all fell apart. Knowing that some of my favorite dishes are things that started out as accidents, I decided to screw around. I just broke up the mashed potatoes and began sauteeing them rather than frying them. I added some sage and oregano and some hot sauce. Some bits got really crusty and crunchy and good, while the rest were nice and smooth. It didn't look to appealing, but it had a wonderful texture and a great, subtle spicyness. It started as an accident, but it turned into something that I'll probably play around with and improve upon in the future. Yum!
  8. I'm going to be conservative and say 75 cookbooks. But I'm only 28...still young with many years to buy more.

    slummin' it!

Hot Dogs, Chili and Rice My dad cooked this for us as kids, and I still eat it occaisonally. It's great. The recipe is incredibly complicated. 2 cups cooked rice. 1 can of chili. 2 or 3 boiled hot dogs, sliced into 1/2 inch chunks. Combine in a pot. Eat. YUMMY!
  10. It depends. You can have "Nice" for $30 per person, or you can do $200 per person. There are probably more restaurants in LA than there are kangaroos in Australia. If you narrow it down, maybe one of us who live here can help.
