  1. I think it should be up to the individual business owners really. If there really is that much of a public outcry for this to happen, then let people vote with their wallets and entirely smoke free bars etc will be booming businesses. Somehow I don't think this will be the case. I don't understand why these sorts of issues aren't decided by referendum. Then you would get the truest desires of the public rather than those lobbyists who line the pockets of the political parties in NJ.
  2. There is no way this bill should be passed in its current form since it doesn't cover casinos. The whole premise of the smoking ban is workers health rights so I guess casino workers don't matter as much as those in the restaurant/bar industry. I am an ex 2 pack a day (15 years) smoker and I think it should be up to the individual businesses.

Drank 1996 Grand Puy Lacoste (with dinner) should have perhaps waited another year or 2 for this but I have more.
  4. Damn they're about 20 years too late. When I was in college there I could done some damage to a few of these.
  5. The last time I was there was in September and we had a great meal. I know the menu isn't cutting edge type stuff (you can still get duck a'lorange) but I had an excellent, unhurried (we had the table for nearly 3 hours) meal. Great Steak au Poivre and an excellent chocolate souffle.
  6. You dont want to go ANYWHERE near this place. Check the health checks thread..you will see why. Also, I know people who have gone there and they said it was horrid. ← i take it you've never been there? shortway's has always intrigued me. now it's on the list! ← Check out the Barn. Marge Shortway still works there every day at 87. When she's not in the kitchen she sits at the bar with a drink and a smoke.
  7. Shortways Barn in Hawthorne. My BIL's family owns the place.

Scrambled eggs with gin. It was a good idea at the time.
  10. Isn't Natale's still open in Summit?
  11. You're looking in a pretty big area but my favorite place is Edie's in Little Silver on Rumson Road, just a couple of blocks from Sickle's. Not fancy, but always busy.
  12. No they have had a liquor license for a little while now.

You can't go wrong with Yuengling. My standard go-to beer for just such occasions as you suggest.
  14. FWIW this month's CI did a taste test on heritage turkeys vs. more mainstream ones and found them (the heritage breeds) 1. to be an acquired taste and 2. to be very very inconsistent regarding quality, even within the same breed.
  15. Never had a problem with my B&D Ergo....not fancy but it does a good job.

  17. Wondra is quick mixing AP flour in a granular form, making it ideal for making lump free sauces
  18. Sounds great! 2 questions though... 1. Is this in the space of the old Truck Stop Diner which used to serve the most heavenly buckwheat pancakes (even though they were $8!)?? and 2. are you legally allowed to do this in a BYO? I thought it you were only allowed to bring in wine or beer. Not that I'm going to only stick to the rules, but as a point of order.
  19. OK I'll be the dissenting voice. Everything gets swept into my 1HP WasteKing and ground up. I don't compost and I barely recycle. There I said it. I bet I'm not the only one flaunting the environmentalists either.
  20. 1 vote for eggs (2 grated) mustard mayo pickle relish chopped pimento scallion cooled chunky potatoes
  21. My brother was associated with a BBQ team in Houston about 10 years ago or so and one of the members had an overcoat made out of the bags. Sorry no picture but it was truly a sight.
  22. I'm sure someone mentioned that Corian doesn't stain, but that's not entirely true either. My parents have a Corian counter with integrated sink, which is white, and I stained that sink several years ago with turmeric and its still there. I'm sure I can sand/buff it out, but it most definitely stains.
  23. Absolute Black is good for not staining etc without much sealing but some of the lighter colored granites can and will stain without proper and repeated sealing.
  24. I believe the Silestone/Caesarstone/Zodiac/whatever brand choice over granite is that you don't have to seal the quartz products like you do a granite to prevent staining. Granite is porous (some varieties moreso than others) and must be sealed to prevent staining.
