  1. Mr. Kim tried ordering pick up from Amazon Whole Foods Market for the first time yesterday. Not an unmitigated success: He ordered and we got – arugula, corn, ground beef, and short ribs. He ordered and we did NOT get KA Bread flour. There was a notice on the website that if something was unavailable they would contact him to let him know so he could choose something different or cancel the order. We checked it as we were waiting and no one ever contacted him. We kept the order because the other stuff was decently priced and stuff we wanted, but I doubt he'll be willing to try this again.
  2. I am a big fan of strawberries on top of almost any baked good. But if I'm calling it "strawberry shortcake", it's going to be on a sweetened biscuit-like cake. This is the recipe that I've worked on over a few years and is our current favorite. Shortcake: With strawberries and whipped something (😁😞 When strawberry season is over (too soon) I love a peach shortbread!

    Dinner 2020

@BKEats – that skirt steak looks so good. Thanks for the link to the recipe. I’m printing that out and added that you also used soy and cilantro. @rotuts – I love doing pinwheels. I’ve only done them with flank steak, but I know skirt would be great that way. @liamsaunt – that is my kind of dog. Love that wrinkled crackly skin! Started dinner last night with a “little” treat – these giant shrimp: !!!! Old Bay and olive oil and roasted: Our while-I’m-cooking nosh: Shrimp, Kroger seafood salad, Cheddar, and pretzel crackers. We were so full that I postponed dinner for an hour! I made a mess o’ beans: Served with frozen Chicken Kiev and Jasmine rice:

    Lunch 2020

Ketchup. Or maybe pizza sauce. Either way - not mustard.

    Dinner 2020

@mgaretz – I love how large the mushrooms are cut in your marsala. That is exactly how I prefer it. They are large enough that the people who eat them can really taste them and the people who don’t (like me) can find them and put them to the side. @Margaret Pilgrim – your bread is just amazing looking. So nice and crusty and full of bubbles! Chicken Parm made with Aldi’s frozen chicken filets, marinara from the freezer, leftover cheese mix from the lasagna soup and some pasta: It was good. Also, filling and frugal. Chopped salad: I believe that Mr. Kim is trying to sabotage my dieting efforts. He brought me Drake's cakes. Thus, dessert:
  7. I used some of my Penzey's gift card $ today: Garlic, BBQ 3000 (Mr. Kim uses it in his rub for smoking pork) and a new mix called Justice: shallots, garlic, onion, green peppercorns, chives, and green onions - no salt. The way Penzey's stores are working just now is you call them and leave your number. They call you back and get your order and payment and what time you want to pick it up and leave it in a big bin outside the door. No contact. It worked well and I love buying from them anyway.

    Lunch 2020

@robirdstx - that sandwich looks perfect. I love tuna on rye! We had to run to Penzey's to pick up an order today, so we got lunch to bring home from a favorite place in our old urban neighborhood. Pizza and Steak & cheese subs: Still the best pizza, as far as we know, in Richmond. I could wish for a more bubbly crust, but the sauce and proportions are spot on. Ignore the mustard on the sub. Mr. Kim was wearing a mask and we figured that she mistook what he asked for.
  9. Welcome, @J_Kean! I'm always thrilled to see someone from the UK - I'm an American that fell in love with Britain on my only trip. My husband has been to England and Ireland (Republic) and we hope to make it to Scotland before we die! I will look forward to you sharing your writing. We have gotten away from food related storytelling at eG, I think. And I miss it!

    Dinner 2020

We wanted hot dogs and in the spirit of use what you have and we didn’t have hot dog buns, they ended up on hamburger buns. Split and fried: Melted some American cheese over the top (not the plastic wrapped stuff – deli cheese, which is a Different Thing): And some canned bean-less chili piled on: Which is just canned chili, no justification😉. It is almost as trashy as it gets (almost because they sell, and people actually buy, canned BBQ pork). Served with sweet potato fries (Alexia frozen) and fixed up canned baked beans. Good God, there’s congealed salad, too😮. Looking at it now, I am a bit abashed: But I wasn’t at all abashed when I gobbled it up😁. Also pickly stuff:
  11. I wondered the same thing about the restaurant gift cards. We are eating out as much as we feel we can, but didn't buy any gift cards. I have one for the Outback group for $25 that was a gift. We don't care for Outback or Carrabba's, but we like Bonefish appetizers and will probably use that soon. Odd thing. Sur la Table sent me an additional identical baking pan. I just sent them an email asking what they want me to do.
  12. @chord - a question. I went and looked at the recipes and I plan to make a couple of them, seeing how well yours turned out. I was wondering about your baking vessel. It looks to me like you used a loaf pan. I don't have the Pyrex bowls that she recommends and, anyway, I prefer loaves. I have two of the loaf pans in the sizes she recommends. Did you increase your ingredients by 1.5, as she says? Thanks!

    Breakfast 2020!

I need some smelling salts. Wow. Mr. Kim (working from home and wandered by on the phone) wanted to know if that is a puffin. LOL

    Dinner 2020

Last night was supposed to be split hot dogs on hamburger buns (trying to use stuff up), but Mr. Kim came home to work from home for the rest of the week and realized he'd left something at the office that he needed. By the time we got back from downtown and stopped at a couple of grocery stores, it was too late to make anything. So we did a dinner of Southern comfort 😄: Popeye's sandwich, wavy chips, and glow-in-the-dark congealed strawberry and creme salad from a favorite local purveyor.
  15. I've been reading about various stores going under soon. Penneys, Pier 1, multiple department stores closing locations, etc. We had a gift card from Sur la Table that I'd given to Mr. Kim years ago when he mentioned wanting to take a knife skills class. He never used it and I read about Sur la Table possibly declaring bankruptcy. So, I decided to use it. I got these Oxo Good Grips non-stick skillets (8-inch and 10-inch) and this 9x9-inch square pan (bonus – it fits in the CSO): I went through all of our cards (we are really bad about using them) and the only other food related ones I found (other than grocery stores) was two $50 from Penzey's. Is anyone else doing this?
  16. I don't know the answer to your questions - I just have to say that that is a gorgeous crumb! Very envious here!
  17. Hi, @Sha and welcome! Living in the US, I always look forward to the contributions of folks from other countries! Have fun - we are a good bunch!

    Dinner 2020

@Shelby – thanks for the gratin directions. I told Mr. Kim about it last night and his eyes gleamed! Every time I see your home made egg rolls, I vow to give them another try. They look so great. @Ann_T – your battered halibut is perhaps the most delicious looking fish I’ve ever seen! I’ve gone to your blog to get the recipe and hope to make it soon (may end up being cod, though – halibut is crazy expensive here). @TicTac – would love to have the recipe for that apple salad! Dinner last night was a throwback to the 1970’s. I did pan fried Sizzleburgers with butter and Worcestershire sauce. It smelled like my Momma’s kitchen back then. All ready to Sizzle: Sizzling: To me this is the best possible burger – a good crust, frying in it’s own fat and not too big – these were probably just short of 1/4 lb. and it was 80/20 meat. Served with broccoli and fries:
