  1. Tonight's Larb - different and every bit as good as last night's. Followed by more galette.
  2. Mai Tai's today since we now have made the fixin's.
  3. There were a couple of containers of full fat sour cream in the bargain bin - grabbed those to make this sour cream coffee cake. The recipe calls for mixing 1 tsp of baking powder in with the sour cream and 2 tsp with the flour. Of course I forgot to add it to the flour - but I think I've gotten away with it. Probably not as light as it usually is - but bet they don't notice!
  4. Stewed rhubarb was a typical seasonal dessert for me growing up. Followed by strawberry rhubarb pie as the next seasonal thing. My dad's appetite was pretty poor at the end - but just a few weeks ago he asked me to make him some stewed rhubarb - "but put a little more sugar in it than you usually do". Snarfed it down pretty quickly.
  5. Made a second strawberry rhubarb galette. This one has some almond filling in the bottom. A you can see in the first pic there was a bit of overflow - and in my attempt to control it - I placed the inner side of my forearm firmly on the inside of the oven door. Going to be feeling that for a few days!
  6. We have Pok Pok up here in Kindle format. Shall cruise through it later. Rum swizzles tonight with a sickbird panela rum. Made some grenadine this am to replace the stuff from the fridge that had been tossed. Really miss all the little bottles that got tossed! Working on some orgeat.
  7. Holy Cow... To me cleaning leeks is like folding fitted sheets - I needed someone to show me how to do it. Doesn't mean I think ex-con Martha is a god - but I did appreciate seeing how she did it.
  8. With no help from Julia or Jacques - for lunch I made a bastardized Reuben. Based only on the sauerkraut that needed using up - kielbasa, cheddar, mayo/ketchup. It was tasty if not 'correct'.
  9. Ok - the schedule this time with me working two places on a bunch of days is a bit annoying as far as baking goes. I'm in the clinic and the nursing home today, the Wiki nursing home and the ob clinic tomorrow. At least I'm one baked item ahead as I split the Lemon Bliss cake into two loaf pans. Now to decide which place gets what. Summer Torte with strawberries and rhubarb. Lemon Bliss cake (loaf).
  10. Went out for a nice walk in Mantowaning at lunch today. Cocktail this evening a Bitter Elder. Anna prepared us a lovely dinner - a trial piece of bourek, steak, Soba's tomatoes and green beans and lovely fresh bread.
  11. I'm confused - fish to clear wine relates to gluten intolerance?
  12. Oatmeal Raisin cookies to take for work tomorrow.
  13. I was impressed too. You should have seen the one that got away - it was a horrible mess!
  14. Thanks Chris - it's been a while since I looked at their site. Lots of nice stuff and the website is much easier to navigate than before.
  15. Want me to arrange an urgent butter delivery? I'm sure the OPP would help out.
  16. Your's looks pretty close to me. Have you tasted the original?
  17. Impossible Brownie Pie 4 eggs4 ounces semisweet chocolate melted½ cup bisquickÆ baking mix½ cup brown sugar½ cup sugar¼ cup soft butter¾ cup nuts 350 degrees, greased pieplate. Buzz all buts nuts in blender. Bake 30-35 minutes. Cool 5 minutes. Serve with ice cream. Notes:Replace bisquick with 1/2 cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder and 3-4 tbsp butter.
  18. My breakfast this am - forgot the money shot!
  19. Impossible Brownie Pie - Right out of the oven This morning
  20. Interesting - researched and not finding a lot online - would you be able to PM me the recipe you do have 'cause I'd love to play with it?
  21. Make it under vacuum in a Stephan Vacuum Blender.
  22. Repeated the Ramazzotti Jimjam with the Apry replacement. Not as plummy as with Apry - a couple of drops of almond extract helped a bit.
