i have one i can bring. looking forward to your mad skillz on the knife, laura
-
that is truly tragic. i was starting to think of this block as the holy trinity of food heaven. desert, cheese, and other goodies and books to tell you how to put it all together. damn, i'm sure going to miss their pear and frangipagne tart and the lemon tart.
-
yay, lee! looking forward to also meeting lauraf and barolo. should be fun and thanks to the first group for breaking chef tony in for us!! eek, we'll try to keep the rest of you entertained with our updates. t'is a hard act to follow!

if i'm not mistaken, i think the aforementioned "chubby" is a soft drink from the caribbean islands. http://flakmag.com/misc/chubby.html the bottles are wide in girth, indeed! -
wow, kudos to the joe fortes team for actually listening to their customers and caring enough to do something about it. like fud, i was initially giving them a big 'ol pass, but now, they're on the top on the list.

^^ me thinks there will be a stop at seb's tomorrow to stock up on some jam! thanks, miss cat speaking of breakfast sandwiches and breakie things you can eat with one hand, i often get irate at the fact that most coffee joints have only sweet stuff to offer in the mornings. my usual 2 refuge are gutenbergs for their breakfast bagel and kookoo coffee on davie for their breakfast sandwich. gotta satisfy my salty tooth in the mornings
-
heh, we were there around 1! thanks for the tip on the sides. i hear ya about that jam. i wanted to lick the jam pot clean! we used up all our jam as well.

after countless hours of reading about seb's on here, we finally made it there yesterday for brunch. we were greatly rewarded for our trek there. nice warm room. interesting offerings, good prices and our service was pretty good. he had the bacon and apple omelette which was a really nice combination. i managed to snag a bite and i reall liked the subtle sweetness that the apple gave to the smokey saltiness of the bacon. i had eggs over easy and turkey sausages. the eggs were perfectly done (pet peeve of mine when the yolks are hard), and the sausages were so so good. meaty, flavourful and juicy. the eggs were free range with bright orange yolks (yum!). good coffees and my pineapple juice was freshly juiced with tiny chunks of fruit in it still. both our plates came with a few pieces of fresh fruit, strawberry, watermelon and honeydew, and toast and homemade jam. i could live on their toast and jams, me thinks! we ended up leaving with a loaf of their french sour roasted garlic bread. made a really good grilled cheese sammie later on in the evening!

i have been wondering about this place. i think that it is definitely on the high priority list now! thanks, zuke!

haven't been to cafe d'lite in ages. was good when we were there. if you do banana leaf, do the one on broadway. my experience with the denman location is that it's "whiteyfied". the menu is also smaller at the denman location. if you are craving malaysian food, also try kedah house on fraser and 41st. stellar home cooked meals and a very good value.
-
they also now have veggie rolls which are very good. i have a nasty addiction to the sausage rolls there and i think these might save my cholesterol level! you can also buy frozen day old pies for a fraction of the usual price as well. they're still good reheated in the oven, although the crust is not as crispy.

Garden, you say? I must check them out this week. That's just down the street from Stormin Norman's, right? Hmmmmm, potential double-bill shaping up here. ← another vote for pizza garden. it's cheap pizza by the slice, but the cheese and garlic one has got my pizza heart. it's between venables and napier, so yes, just down the street from stormin norman's!

whoa, is all i can muster as for "the call". i myself, cannot keep myself away from this place, it's better than crack. i was there again on friday night and had the lamb shank while my friend munched on the meatloaf. the lamb was tasty and tender. not fall off the bone, but very juicy. sauce was simple and nice and i asked for mash potatoes instead of the polenta as i'm more fond of mash. the meatloaf did not disappoint, yet again. she had fries with it instead of mash and they were very tasty, we thought. seemed like it had a light batter on it, crisp with a soft innard and flavourful. had a nice glass of red (can't remember what i had) and we finished off with the chocolate souffle and lemon meringue pie. souffle was perfect, more wet than the last time i had it and with chunks of melted dark chocolate in it. yum. the lemon meringue was good, a tad bit sweet for us and not lemony enough but it didn't keep us from polishing it off! i was surprised to see the front and back of house so full. the kitchen had about 3 people in the back and 3 people, including heather, in the front part and about 3 girls on the floor including heather's sister. apparently they found themselves swamped last friday and were being more prepared this time. the room was full by the time we left. i'm so happy to see diner doing well and flourishing. i don't know why but i have a fondness for this place. the honest and real food, combined with a nice, down to earth girl running the joint and a good looking space. i hope that this continues. next up, i'm tackling the burger has anyone tried the ribs yet? waddaya think?

besides their fantastic pies, they also have awesome soups now. all homemade, and delicious. huge bowl and a couple pieces of bread for $3.95, a steal. also, they have 2 toonie tuesdays for the pies. side salads are also a steal at $1, mixed greens, some fruit, sometimes walnuts, sometimes blue cheese. must try the star anise vinagrette. no, i don't work there. i work next door and eat there far too often! btw, arne, i'm sure that they will end up at the new stadium. it's a good way for cliff to watch a soccer game for free!
-
you beat me to it, moosh! we love zakkushi. one of the must haves is the jyako (sp?) salad. thinly sliced daikon and cucumber with an ume vinagrette. lip smacking good! lemme know, anytime you wanna go
-
everything looks so good! i just hope that the coconut lime souffle is in the january session as well. i might have to barter and trade recipes with one of you guys if not! again, thanks so much for the weekly report of food porn

So Sad, I was wisking like I'd never wisked before and then my partner felt sorry for me and took over. She has some pipes...sadly i do not ← you should have snuck to the back and asked chef tony if you could borrow his copper bowl!! it definitly helps in firming the whites a little quicker and it gives big volume. it'll give your arm big volume too!
-
the templeton on granville and helmken also has them on their menu usually. although, i do prefer wing nut's! the deep fried smores is also sickeningly good too.
-
i like popping by parkside for the occasional dessert or nibbly at the bar. that way, my lemon drop is made right in front of me and i don't have to wait the 10 seconds that it would take to get to my paws! i also like the kitchen bar at bin 941 and like bcinbc, the lumiere tasting bar. this has no bartenders but i also love sitting at the bar at the guus. love watching those guys toss about the kimchi fried rice "one armed wok style".

ok, another wierd coincidence. i got a call from mark davidson today for an appointment and it's been a long time since i've seen him. so, i'm seeing him this friday. i'm going to pick his brain and see if he's going to do an amature series at nwcav. if i remember correctly, he's talked about doing it there before as he used to at dubrulle.
-
i think that mark davidson is still teaching wine courses out of northwest culinary. he used to be with dubrulle but brought his class to northwest. another good way is to join wine clubs. we are members in the vancouver american wine society and they have tastings every couple of months, and wine dinners as well. i just joined this past spring and have learnt quite a bit by just going to the tastings. http://www.vaws.org/
