  1. Pea Soup - a little mint lemon, etc. Very "spring" tasting.
  2. Yes. I think you're handsome...and you've made want to go clean out my overloaded refrigerator. Your use of milk cartons is ingenious! Jean
  3. I had plans to introduce Vie to friends in May but after reading Ronnie's description, I can't wait that long! Just made my reservations for Saturday. jb
  4. Well, not surprisingly I'd steer you to our Index that lists threads about the following in the 6th:Camdeborde’s Snack Take Out Bouquinistes Cameleon Cameleon Chaumette Chaumette Les Cocottes de Christian Constant Le Comptoir Ferrandaise Ferrandaise Fish Fogon La Maison du Jardin Roger la Grenouille Sensing Sensing For myself I don't think you can go wrong at Le Baratin, Les Papilles, Chez Michel, L'Os a Moelle, Le Troquet, L'Ami Jean, Mon Viel Ami, + L'Ourcine but La Cremerie has just been taken over by a new team and we've had no comments on eGullet yet. I'd add Cameleon, Fish, Maison du Jardin + Sensing too, so many choices, so little time! Good luck. ← Looks like I have a lot of research to do and a lot of eating! Thanks so much for your thoughts. Jean
  5. I will be staying in Paris for three night in September at the Hotel Relais-St. Germain. Dinner one night at Le Comptoir and two nights yet to book. The hotel provided me with a list of restaurants in the area that they recommend. Do we agree? La Cremerie, Le Cafe Constant, Le Baratin, Les Papilles, Chez Michel, L'os a Moelle, Le Troquet, L'Ami Jean, Le Repaire De Cartouche, Mon Viel Ami, and L'Ourcine. Thanks! Jean
  6. Just ordered a case of Artazuri. I plan on opening a bottle the first day that I can wander outside and grill some shrimp. jb
  7. While I can relate to much of what's being said here, I can't help but think that not having friends who want to come share an evening with me would be much worse. Certainly, if a guest is deliberately rude the decision to invite or not invite is easy. Anything else? Oh well...life ain't perfect. jb
  8. Anybody know if the bakery has opened? jb
  9. Rugelach...fantastic, pop in the mouth and gone in an instant....ate too many!
  10. One of the best things about being empty nesters - it's now "proper" to have a martini before dinner. Sometimes, that pretty much IS dinner.
  11. THIS is too cool. I will be in Paris in the fall and this is most helpful. Thanks! jb
  12. Ronnie, Thanks so much for all of your great restaurant tips and I'll forever be grateful for leading me to Reagan's! I always enjoy reading your posts so I hope to continue to see you here often. jb
  13. Oh my god! Those desserts look fabulous. I completely forgot that I own this book...maybe my husband's right..I do have too many cookbooks! I don't think I've made even one thing from the book but I know I've drooled over it several times. I'm inspired! I'll make something this weekend. jb
  14. Don't know a thing about Belgian restaurants in your area but if you ever fell like cooking their cuisine, there is a great cookbook on the subject called Everybody Eats Well in Belgium. jb
  15. Dorie, Thanks for letting us know about the rice pudding. That was one of the first things I made from your book and although the taste was great, it was too runny. Now I won't be afraid to try it again! jb
  16. Pancakes, waffles - make your own, freeze them - no big deal. Boxed cakes. Can't see where they save enough time or money to make them worthwhile. Especially since they taste so awful.
  17. Love mine. I use it all the time when I entertain or when I'm holding a plate of food for late arriving husband. Put it on moist heat and it doesn't dry out. I also use it to warm plates. Do you NEED it? That's another question but I suspect that most of us have many things that we don't need, just want. jb
  18. Try as I might, I get them dirty even though I put them in a cookbook holder. Once, at a flea market, I saw a cookbook holder that fitted over the top of a cabinet door with a plastic cover just like the ones that you use on the countertop. I've never seen it since but I think it was a great concept. Should've jumped on it.
  19. So here I am in Puerto Vallarta and I forgot my recipe for Bistecca Ranchero. Anybody have the time to email me the recipe. Mucho appreciated. Jean Blanchard
  20. I'm so glad that you tried the French Yogurt cake. Now, with your endorsement, I'll go ahead and do that one next. jb
  21. Thanks for this list Ron. I'll keep it close at hand since you steered me to several of these places already. Vie was the big winner for me also. Great to have a place out in the suburbs.
  22. I'll be leaving for my annual month on the beach soon. Anybody been to PV lately? Eaten anywhere new, special?
  23. When my kids were young, I used to stuff pork tenderloin with bread stuffing, top with a couple slices of bacon.
  24. Made the cranberry upside downer cake for a dinner party last night. For anyone who hasn't tried this yet, it's a beautiful cake to make for the holiday buffet. Also, quite tasty!
