  1. Would have been awesome if Boston Cream Pie had been on team cake, and went up against Cheesecake in the finals!
  2. Yet Boston Cream Pie is on Team Pie as well. (shenanigans) I haven't yet committed to either Team Pie or Cake yet. They both have such goodness to offer! It's going to be tough when it gets down to the final two. I was thinking apple would come out on top on the pie side, but now I'm wondering about cheesecake.
  3. I thought that was you! I'm not registered there, but have been voting in the cake vs pie showdown. Shocked, however, that you both prefer carrot cake over black forest. How do you all feel about cheesecake being included in the pie category?
  4. Ooooh, pretty! And very unique. What fillings are you using?
  5. I'm glad you tried it and enjoyed it! And yeah, I never use margarine (blech), so I guess I kinda lied when I said "low-fat". Heh.

    Dinner! 2010

Don't know why you're not happy with the photo – looks great!
  9. Mmmm, I can almost taste that. I love a good crumble or crisp.
  10. Is there anything that doesn't work with eggs? I had leftover curry with scrambled eggs last night. Looked disgusting (hence no pic), but it tasted fantastic.
  11. How is that freaky? Doesn't everyone do that?? Mine are organized slightly differently tho. First page is the apps I use all the time, then I have apps grouped by type, like games together, database-type apps together (including recipes, finance, book library), locational apps, photography apps, etc. I downloaded Martha's Everyday Foods app, but I haven't played with it much yet. Looked at Jamie Oliver's, but $7.99!? No. The Whole Foods app is pretty nice – lots of good recipes and you can search by diet restrictions – and it's free and has a built-in shopping list. The app I use most for recipes is MacGourmet. It started as a Mac-based application and then they introduced the iPhone app so you can sync the two and carry your recipes with you – very handy. It comes with a lot of recipes, and if you have the desktop app as well, you can customize and delete theirs and add your own. Can also do shopping lists. For shopping I just use a basic Lists app. I tried some of the grocery-specific ones but I didn't like the way they organized things. Still looking for that perfect grocery list app.

Mmm, you can't go wrong with lentil soup. No pic for me tonight. I'm just having some leftovers scrambled with a couple eggs (again).
  13. Not sure about freezing – I think the cake itself would freeze great, but I'd worry about what might happen to the chunks of apple in there. But seriously, this cake is so good, you won't have any leftovers to freeze!
  14. I made the same smoothie this morning as in the last post but used more banana to thicken it. What I ended up with tasted exactly like Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey!! It was actually a little gross – even though my brain knew it was just fruit & soy milk, I kept thinking I was having a milkshake for breakfast.
  15. I do, actually! It's from Cooking Light... clickity I've made this cake many times – it's always very popular. Great with coffee, and even better the next day.
  16. Jmahl, somehow I missed the recipe you posted on the previous page – thank you! Can't wait to try it.
  17. You probably could, Darienne. Give it a shot! I also use my press all the time to heat up & lightly toast my pita when I'm having hummus. So much better that way, warm and with a bit of crunch. And the lovely grill marks really do add something.
  18. I made a low-fat apple cake for a friend who's at home recovering from recent surgery. Lots of apple, coated with a sugar-cinnamon mixture... just before it went in the oven, with more of the sugar-cinnamon sprinkled on top... just after it came out, with a lovely cracked top... and out of the pan... I'm very tempted to bake another one so I can show how beautiful it is sliced, too.

Oh, and Kim, we can just move that baked linguini photo right over to the comfort foods thread. It looks fantastic!

    Dinner! 2010

Tonight, I attempted to make the tomato cauliflower curry that deensiebat posted upthread (awesome screenname, by the way). I had the wrong size can of tomatoes, though(about 1.5x too much), but decided to just use it anyway and see what happened. Here it's on the stove reducing down... And then I almost forgot to add the garam masala at the end. I had it over basmati rice. Very tasty, but too tomato-y I think. I'll make it again, but will use the correct proportions next time.
  21. It's not as sexy as Blether's photo the other day, but I had eggs over easy on toast this morning... I use my panini press all the time for making grilled sandwiches, but lately I've been using it to make toast too. It's fantastic. Nice and evenly crispy. Why do I need my toaster oven again?
  22. Quinoa pancakes?? Any chance of posting a recipe? That all looks fantastic.

    Dinner! 2010

Thanks! I'm very happy with both the new camera and lens. I'll probably be posting photos more often now that I'm still so in love with my new toy that I'm photographing everything in sight.
  24. Watching season 1, it seemed that the chefs were really having fun with the competition and challenges, and enjoyed the opportunity to cook with other "masters". I'm not surprised some of them want to come back.
  25. Great article JAZ, thanks for the link.
