  1. Kobi, That looks like a great meal! Thanks for the pictures...looking at them makes me hungry! Have you ever had the Kobe beef appetizer at Pod?
  2. Yes, they are BYO. I have heard great things about Sri Thai as well...is Sri Thai as good as all the hype they get? Also where is Wondees? Considering you work across the street, I recomment stopping in, I think you'll enjoy it.
  3. Sure.... 1006 Washington St. Hoboken, New Jersey 07030 Telephone - (201) 656-6108 Enjoy!
  4. Can anyone provide restaurant recomendations for a place near Seton Hall University on a Saturday. Interested in a good local place! Thanks in advance for the help!
  5. Made it to Casual Thai in Hoboken, NJ recently and really enjoyed the meal. Great service, excellent food and perfect location right on Washington Street in Hoboken. We got the following: - Appetizer: Satay - It was a mix of both chicken and beef with 2 sauces on the side - a peanut sauce and a sweet sauce - Entrees: Pad Gra Pow with Chicken & Pad Thai With Chicken. - Sides: Brown Rice and Sticky Rice Unfortunately, no room for dessert! Anyone else ever been here, thoughts, reviews, etc!!! I highly recommend this place, really a great meal at a very reasonable price.
  6. I will be eating in Hoboken, NJ kind of late at night this week (around 9:30) and I am looking for suggestions for a good dinner on the light side! Thanks.
  7. Daniel - Food looks delicious, are you going to post the results in this thread or in the famous dinner thread?
  8. Tell your friend that a Whiz Wit is a requirement when going down to Philly.....Out of the restaurants that you mentioned I have been to Pod a few times and really enjoyed it! A very cool atmosphere with great food, I think that they also have sushi. I remember getting Kobe beef there one time...3 strips which we got to cook on a hot lava rock!

    Dinner! 2005

What were they marinated in and how long did you marinate for. I am a big fan of grilled tuna and would appreciate any new cooking ideas! Thanks!!!!
  10. This link should give you all the info you need to know on how to post images. Hope it helps! AHAHAHA! So glad you hit the TRUE #1 locations of life-long Brooklynites! Debating the merits of different pizzerie in New York is a lifetime occupation, but for those on the east side of the river, there is ONLY Grimaldi's for thin crust, and L&B's for Sicilian. ← When does Anthony's open? I just read a blurb about them in New York magazine - could they be vying for the title? I haven't been to Difara's yet, many many Brooklynites sing their praises, but many of them are those who live out past Park Slope and like to thumb their nose at people living in Manhattans, so I really have to find out for myself. I was like that too when living in Brooklyn, "I don't need to go to your stinking Manhattan!", but I really want an objective take on it. I will say that your average slice shop is better in Brooklyn, with most of the pizza in Manhattan being made by Mexicans... OT: How do I post images? I think I have the same status as the thread-starter but no options to upload pictures - is that done elsewhere on the site? I say that because I'm looking at a 5-day culinary adventure as my best friend from Tokyo is arriving today and is going to want to go to the latest and greatest, and would like to post with pictures as well... ←
  11. Kobi - That Philly food tour looks amazing, and the pictures make me want to drive to Philly right now! What other cheesesteak places have you been to in Philly?
  12. Pimaan Thai Restaurant in Emerson is delicious...I have been there numerous times. The lunch specials are great. You get a choice of soup or salad and a main entree which comes with a spring roll as well. The staff is really friendly as well.
  13. On a rainy Saturday afternoon in October, myself and Kobi (another member of EGullet) ventured out to Brooklyn and Manhattan for another food tour. To see our previous food tour of all 5 boroughs of NYC, click here As you can see, our previous tour focused on all 5 boroughs. This tour was a little different, as we decided to concentrate on Brooklyn, and made one stop in lower Manhattan as well. The pictures from this tour are not as good as the previous tour (some of the pictures of the food inside the restaurant did not come out), but they still give a good presentation of our tour. Nathan's I know, I know... Nathan's is for tourists. We're real New Yorkers, and have eaten at some of the better hot dog places (Rutt's Hut, Hot Grill, Grey's Papaya, etc.) in the area, but still couldn't make our first trip to Coney Island in a decade without stopping in. The hot dogs were surprisingly good- very well crisped and flavorful. We had one with sautéed onions which were mediocre, and one with kraut and mustard. A nice way to start the day, which would certainly be on the upswing quickly, our visit to Nathan's was a solid breakfast Totonno's Totonno's is, no doubt, a special place. Down a block or two off the beach in Coney Island, it is an experience both for the eyes and the palate. Right in the middle of a block in a true working class neighborhood, Totonno's is the opposite of pretension. They ladle out the sauce from small pots and the food preparation area is the size of a walk-in closet in a modern home, but they can certainly make a pizza. In comparison to some places of similar stature, I think Totonno's has more flavor- you taste the sauce, you taste the cheese, and they are both complemented by the VERY thin crust, which serves as more of a medium for the other ingredients than anything else. Having been to the outpost on the UES, this was certainly more enjoyable (made it was the placebo-like effect of the classic atmosphere, but I am not questioning it) and of better flavor. We had no real complaints with this pizza. It was cooked to perfection, the crust was notably thin, and the sauce and cheese distribution was great. I assume one could be disappointed with how small the pizza is (a pizza feeding only one person is not unfathomable) but we had no qualms with it. A great experience and a great meal L & B Spumoni Gardens Just a subway stop or two away, L & B Spumoni Gardens was our next stop. A great atmosphere both inside and outside, as there seemed to be plenty of regulars around. The square slice is the highlight at this place...cheese on first, then a sweet tangy sauce, followed by a variety of other grated cheeses.....all in all a great slice of pizza and real tasty. We'll be back for more and hopefully next time save some room for the famous Spumoni! Grimaldi's Grimaldi's was the fourth stop of our day, and the third pizza experience. We came in with very high expectations and were not disappointed. The place was noisy and packed, even at an off hour on a rainy day. We were seated pretty quickly near the pizza-making area. The pizza was VERY good, although certainly a notch (or two) below Totonno's. We almost thought it was more similar to Brooklyn Pizza or John's than some of the others. Great texture, great sauce, but not much flavor from the cheese or the crust. The crust was cooked perfectly, though, with great char and very thin. A great experience, but not in our personal pizza holy trinity. Nha Trang Centre NTC is one of our favorite spots in C-Town. On this visit, we had beef cubes with white rice and noodle soup with well done beef. The beef cubes were excellent, VERY tasty and well complemented by the table-side sauces. The soup, while more exotic, was not as enjoyable for us- probably because we didn't really know what to expect (and had stopped at four other eating locales on the same day prior). However, it was good, and it was "fun," also, as one gets to combine some of the ingredients table side. The beef (4.50 or 5.00) is a true bargain, and a great lunch-time meal. Highly recommended.
  14. When I was in college we used to drive out to the Reading Airport, as there was a great wing place right in the airport...I think it was something like the Wild Wing Cafe, but I am not sure if it is still there? Does anyone know if this place is still around?
  15. You got it..the sides are rice with wheat berries and the other side was a mixture of squash, carrots, and sweet potatoes (got the info about the second side from our waitress) Please specify the sides. Were they the brown rice & the squash? Admittedly, they are very good, but after the first half dozen times one does grow a bit weary of them. Just curious to know if they've changed their sides. ←
  16. Made it to Park and Orchard this evening and really enjoyed the food. It had been a few years since I had been there last....For appetizer got the chinese dumplings with a real tasty peanut sauce...then the salads arrived whih were delicious with that basil dressing...For entree I got the blackened tuna and my dad got the blackened shrimp, both came with great sides...I highly recommend this place, real tasty food and a cool atmosphere!
  17. These are my favorites from the restaurant....(in no particular order) - Edamame - Akamiso Soup - Just like miso soup but better - Grilled Shrimp Appetizer with Avocado dipping sauce - Clown Roll - Shrimp Cucumber Roll - Beef Negimyaki Appetizer - Delicious!!! 18. Illuzion in Hoboken, NJ is excellent. I have had the sushi there and a few of the appetizers all of which are excellent and fresh with great service in a cool atmosphere. Details are as follows: Address - 337 Washington St, Hoboken, New Jersey ( NJ ) 07030 Telephone - (201) 418-8833 If you make it there, please let us know what you think.
  19. Now that the weather is beginning to turn a little cooler, soup is on my mind! I have yet to try the Soup place in NYC that is featured on the show Seinfeld (The Soup Nazi Episode). Is there already a thread on this that someone can point me to? If not, what is this place like, when is it open and where is it? Is it really worth the trip and what soups are the best. Thanks!
  20. What types of coffee have you tried there - any recomendations? Thanks Kobi!

    venue

Are they doing a food network shos on venue in Hoboken, NJ? I do agree and feel that Sam Mason is probably the best pastry chef in all of New York City. But take him out of the equasion and just talking food In my opinion I felt that Venue's food just tasted better. Dont get me wrong, WD is great but I think that Venue will always be labled as "trying too hard" because they are in NJ. If Venue was in Manhatten as well it would be a totally different story. Thats why I feel that its a shame they are not in manhattan. They are always going to have to deal with the " it cant be as good as WD-50, or Alinea its in NJ." In regards to the menu, I thought Wd uses too many of the same ingredients and or concepts repeatedly. Such as pickled items and smoked items. I think a great menu should have very few similarities within it. I guess Venue just appealed to my pallette more. The bottom line is they are both great restaurants and which one is better can be debated on and on and on. It depends on the pallette. I do feel that they are both extremely creative and I am in love with the avant garde cuisine factor. ← good news for BryanZ and dRock. Venue, Wd-50 and Moto in Chicago are going to be featured on an upcoming food network show titled "eat this" with Dave Leiberman. I will fill you in with more info when I get more details. ←
  22. Qdoba is a good place....I have been there a few times - the burrittos are huge!
