I am looking for a plzce that will be part of my NYC tour - so I don't want to fancy of a place just a good quality greek place that we can split a bunch of appetizers at and get some flaming cheese made tableside!!

So, I am heading to Di Fara soon and have a few questions... 1) How do I get there via subway? 2) Do they serve slices? 3) What is the optimal time to go on a Saturday? Thanks!

Country Donuts sounds like the type of place that we are looking for - is this place cheap an dis it waitress service - just want a quick light breakfast, can I get that here??? How about this place called Eat A Ferry Bagel? There are a number of coffee shop/take out/diner type places very close to the ferry. I'm not sure what will or won't be open for breakfast, depending upon the time, but some of them will be open. If you follow the pedestrian exit out of the ferry, cross the street (Richmond Terrace) in front of the ferry, there's a large historic building (Borough Hall) opposite the ferry terminal. If you walk up the stairs next to Borough Hall, or walk up Schuyler Street (a half-block to the right, next to a courthouse) there's Stuyvesant Place, a small commercial strip with some of these places. Directly ABOVE Borough Hall (it's all uphill from Richmond Terrace!) there's Hyatt Street, intersecting with Stuyvesant, and there's a breakfast joint. I think it's called Hillside Restaurant, 8 Hyatt Street (from Yahoo Maps.) If you take a right on Richmond Terrace when you exit the terminal, there's a Country Donuts that's open 24 hours about 2 blocks down (just past the police station. ) Country Donuts is a funky/cheesy/sleazy formica dive with some sit-down booths that serves some basic breakfast stuff in addition to the donuts and coffee. Just before the police station there's a tiny strip mall that might have another coffee shop in it. A couple of blocks past Country Donuts there's a funky little bodega/deli on a corner with some white plastic seats and a table outside. They (used to) have a sign outside saying something like "best coffee in NYC!" I never tried it, don't know if it's the best or not. I'm guessing they serve standard NYC breakfast stuff like egg on a roll also. ←

Does anyone have any specific recomendations for Arthur Ave as I have never been up there.

Has anyone been to the TOny Luke's in NYC - if so how is it? Also does anyone have any pictures or links of the sandwiches from this place - I want to compare to the photos from Philly Lukes! THanks!

I am thinking about going to the restaurant Olives in the W Hotel - any reviews on how it is and recommended dishes? Thanks everyone!

So, does anyone know any sliced as opposed to chopped steak places in NYC???? Thanks! Take the discussion of cheesecakes in Philadelphia to the Pennsylvania Forum. Thank you. ←

I have been to San Diego numerous times, and always go to a few Mexican Places while I am out there - so far my favorite is the Old Town Mexican Cafe, however I feel that there has gotta be a more local authentic place in the area - any suggestions? Thanks!

Since Staten Island is going to be beakfast and the bronx most likely Arthur Avenue - I was figuring that Brooklyn / Manhattan would be the pizza borough - I appreciate everyones help - I am still compiling the responses so please keep the ideas coming - I'll be sure to report the results back when I am done (pictures will be included!) I'd say either Brooklyn or Manhattan, but there are many wonderful options as far as the specific place. Maybe a couple of slices at Di Fara? ←

Give Benny's another try!!! The pizza place near the Shipyard on 14th is Uptown Pizzeria - small place with no seats, just some good counter space - I agree that is a great place as well - while on the topic of pizza I heard that Grimaldis is fantastic, but I have yet to try it.

I am a big fan of sliced steak (Pats, Genos, Steves) sandwiches as opposed to chopped (Jims) sandwiches, but have yet to find a place in NYC that slices the cheesesteak sandwiches - any advice here - thanks!

I have only been to Lua once, and it was excellent - amazing view as it is right on the water. The food was real good as well - next time I go there though rather than getting one big entree, I think I am going to go for a few of the smaller plates and appetizers to sample more of the menu - the place is a little pricy though - I mean we are still in NJ, not NYC! In regards to the weekend night scene there - it is always packed and a good time. What do you mean Benny's on by the slice - are the full pies not good there - I have only gotten slices there???
-
What???? Thanks for the heads up on this (although disapointing news) - I have to make it there before the close - this one is definitely better than the NY Lombardis in my opinion!

In 1 borough we are going to get pizza - which borough would you recommend be our "Pizza Borough" Thanks for everyones help thus far - lots of great ideas!

Thanks for the info - I forgot to mention that we are starting our day in Staten Island, so we sould like a breakfast type place near the ferry, nothing fancy, just someting basic and quick - a roadfood type place if available - thanks for the info!!! I live in Staten Island, near the ferry. Neither of the these restaurants is near the ferry and I wouldn't think of either as being in the "roadfood" category, I think they're both too upscale and too expensive for that. There are a number of ethnic "cheap eats" places within walking distance of the feryy. There's a couple of Sri Lankan places, a Polish Deli that gets rave reviews, a Taco stand that Sietsma in the Village Voice said made superb tacos (there are a couple of other Mexican groceries that perpare some takeout food also) a couple of Roti joints, and a few diner/bar/hamburger kinda places, among others. If you want more info or directions let me know and I'll do my best. ←

I recommend Primanti Brothers as well - I have been there before and it is quite the experience - the sandwich is very good and worth the trip - I had a turkey with fires and slaw, but the steak and egg with fries and slaw looked real good - enjoy!

Bergen County area: cheap recommendations, please!
jrichman replied to a topic in New Jersey: Dining
White Manna Hamburgers in Hackensack - The place is not pretty, but the food is real good and real cheap!!! -
For Pizza go to Benny Tudinos - Simply stated it is the best pizza around...
-
I would add Carvers Steakhouse in Rancho Bernardo to the list - it is a great place in a really nice area.

Whenever I am in NYC I grab a pretzel or hot dog from a food cart - but lately, I have noticed that there are so many different types of food carts that almost serve full meals - any recomendations on some of the better type food carts, what they have, and where they are located.

San Diego has plenty of great restaurants - is there any cuisine in particular that you are interested in. Here are a few good restaurants that I have been to. 1) Rubios - This is a chain, but don't be fooled, a very good chain, and possible one of the best fish tacos that I have ever had - they are mad baja style, with sliced cabbage, and a great sauce - plenty of locations http://www.rubios.com/. Also, I should add that the food is made to order and they have a good salsa bar. 2) Old Town Mexican Cafe - This is in the Old Town Section of San Diego - there are plenty of mexican resturants in this area, but when walking around one evening this one caught my eye, and it was a great decision - a real nice menu of about 15 different margaritas, plus great food and a fun environment. http://www.oldtownmexcafe.com/ 3) RA Sushi - Located in downtown San Diego - a great sushi restaurant with a cool environment as well - I have sat at the sushi bar both times that I was there and enjoyed the food and the environment - if you are not a sushi fan, the chicken terriyaki is real good as well. http://www.rasushi.com/ Enjoy your trip, and let us know how it was upon you return.

I like all foods, so I am interested to eat the type of food tht each borough is known for, or specializes in. For example, while in the Bronx I was thinking of Arthur Ave - I really do not have a budget, if the place is expensive, but worthwhile I will go but would like to go to places that are less expensive - real roadfood type places.

Thanks - any one in paricular that you recommend, and by chance would you have an address - the food sounds great - thanks!
