  1. I made carrot cake cupcakes last night. This recipe is from Martha Stewart's Everyday food. I really like them because they dont have as much oil as most recipes, yet they are still moist and delicious. They whip up really fast( you dont even need a mixer). I added some orange flavored dried cranberries and more coconut to the cupcakes. I also didnt have OJ, so I used apple juice. I also used pecans for the walnuts.
  2. Thanks for the pics of the Halvah, Im drooling. ( I love it). How are the prices there in comparrison to the US. What is the exchange rate? Thanks for blogging.!!
  3. wow, what a great deal. Today we got a brand new( but vintage) aluminum xmas tree, bakelite handled knives( will go on ebay), 2 pyrex nesting bowls( 1.00), ivory handled angel food cake cutter and lifter, LANE cedar chest, a hamilton beach shake mixer, and a few other odds and ends.
  4. I wondered the same thing, but I think that the "sour" comes from the fermentation of the pickles sitting on the counter. New pickles arent really sour and I find Half-sour's not that sour either.
  5. How about Cherry Crumb Pie? I made these about a month ago. Fabulous. I added a crumb topping( not shown)
  6. There are a lot of great( and many different) recipes for pizza dough in Peter Reinharts American Pie.
  7. How many days did you let them sit on the counter?

    Dinner for 40

I make Texas Sheet Cake all the time when I need a dessert for a large quantity. I use the cooking light recipe( you can find it and a picture on my food blog on July 30, 2005). I've succesfully baked the cake in a 9x13 pan, but obviously you wont get as many slices. For a "light recipe", its still pretty rich. It uses cocoa too and a small amount of pecans. Everyone I've ever made it for loves it. Ive added the link to my blog. Click texas sheet cake above.
  9. Hmmm. I never thought about citrus. Could be. I figured since it was made in Italy, it had to do with espresso. Thanks!! Off to do more research.......
  10. Ok, I have another one. This says Made in Italy. I think its for espresso, but how do I use it?
  11. I love that shop in Kensington Market. The prices are great, however, I dont like the way the cheeses are stacked high on the counter and you can't see what they are doing behind it. Seems kinda shady to me.
  12. I bought an Immersion blender at a goodwill because I'm constantly making marinara sauce using whole canned san marzano tomatoes. Its wonderful for that.
  13. My Spouse found this last weekend. I really love this. Its plastic and the silver handle is metal. I already have a matching cake plate. She paid 50 cents for this. vintage nomar( now staub) cast iron sauce pan. She paid 2 bucks for this.
  14. Done, I edited the post with the pics and provided the hyperlink.
  15. Here is a picture of the Triple Chocolate CookiesI brought. I made these at home on Wednesday. The recipe is part of a larger recipe for ice cream sandwiches on Epicurious.com. These are intensely chocolatey. Here it is plated with some amazing peanut butter ice cream and the trifle.
  16. Here is another pic of the fish with Dylan Wiley. She was on my sous chef on the fish. She seasoned it with salt and pepper, stuffed it with green stuff( thyme) and lemon.
  17. Cheese platter. I believe this is the platter that went out before dinner. Sweintraub put this together. I made the fig jam. Im not familar with the cheeses, anyone else? and, Tom's( tino27) bread in the backround.
  18. Here is the primavera Lisa( friend not on EG) and I made. As FatGuy pointed out, we made way too much. I was not so good at figuring out how much we needed. I bought 5 bags of some local( to Ann Arbor) fettucini that was more a very short noodle than what I wanted. I should have waited for the supermarket run and bought some DeCecco. I was paranoid about overcooking the veggies so i left the pasta draining in the sink and it turned into a gloppy mess. I also had a heavy hand with the red pepper flakes. Oy, hindsight is 20/20 eh? My friend made a comment to me after the event. She said " now I get it". We live in a very small town and the quality of food here is dismal to say the least. She's never experienced anything like what she saw and particpated in. She said to me, I'ts going to be hard to go back to eating regular food. LOL. Btw, Tammy, she absolutely loved that pate you brought out. She wanted to know where you got it. I told her I thought a friend brought it back from France.
  19. This was freaking amazing.
  20. Porgy stuffed with thyme, and lemon. Wrapped with applewood smoked bacon. Prepared by me, and Dylan Wiley( Danielle's 4yr old daughter). Grilled by SamIam and Joyce( sam's wife). Does anyone have a picture of the cooked fish? I never saw it and I almost didnt taste it. Lisa( my friend, not on eGullet) and I were slaving over the hot stove preparing the pasta dish.

    Pepsi Jazz

Saw these new pepsi products at target yesterday. 12 packs were on a "try me price" of 3.00 with an additional 50 cents off coupon attached. I won't be partaking though I'm a diet coke gal.
  22. Its my turn to say goodbye. I originally thought I was going to post some pictures from the Heartland Gathering and today's bbq. I raced home from Ann Arbor this morning, emptied my car and then Robin and I went off to a family BBQ. My batteries were drained so I didnt take any pictures( you arent missing much). After the amazing food we ate all weekend, today was a total let down. Instead of double posting the pics from the gathering, please check out the event reporting thread. Lots of people were taking pictures so there will be plenty too look out. I enjoyed blogging with Chris about City/Country life. Thanks for all your nice comments.
