are you speaking of the berger zweigelt that comes in liter bottles? i've been buying this in maryland for about 9 or 10/ bottle. my latest everyday red, it's delicious! tastes very much like gamay. -
i see your point but, really prized small production wines from say piemonte, certainly burgundy, the loire, etc. are tightly allocated among select retailers and then allocated to their better customers. when these type of wines show up on restaurant lists i don't mind paying the mark up and would consider the list unique. i just scanned their wine list online and there are some good bottles on there, but nothing unique. which is how the list was described by the restaurant. i know their hands are tied with pricing because of the ridicuolus plcb policies, but really the price of some of those bottles is a deal breaker for me. i'd probably drink beer.
-
the other thing that is annoying about this is that their wine list can hardly be described as "unique" if they have to purchase everything through the plcb. i mean, everything they own is available to any resident of pa. what's so unique about that?

i'm intrigued enough to make the trek up from wilmington. interesting about the desserts. i know the bakery and have bought quite a few items there, and they are very good.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but.......... Last night the Travel Channel had a show about the top burgers in the country called Hamburger Paradise. Apparantly, this is a rerun from December '07. Like any show of this type, the choices were highly debatable. White Castle, some non-meat veggie burger place in southern california, etc. The suprising thing, to me anyway, was that Half Moon Restaurant and Saloon in Kennett Square was featured. Especially for their wild game burgers. You can get elk, bison, kangaroo, etc. Not sure if all these varities are offered all the time or just when they actually have certain game, but has anyone had these burgers? Any opinions? Apparantly there is quite a selection of Belgian beers also.

what's the difference between "shipping" wine from one store to another versus "transferring" it? -
that looks freakin' delicious! was your tasting menu a noticeable departure from ordering al a carte?

da- has the bellota made it to dibruno's in philly yet?

"I'm fairly confident in assuming that Talula's Table has availability for one or two people often, particularly on weeknights. " i don't think the table is reserved in ones and two's. it is always booked for a specific number of people in a private group. kinda like the old studio kitchen gig. you wouldn't be able to just call and see if the table still has room for two people on a random weeknight and just add your names. of course i could be wrong about this, but i have eaten there a couple times and am pretty familiar with how it works.

hd73- very well said. that is an apt description of the current situation at talula's.

did you get any idea what they will be serving when they get their license? asian beers, decent wines, etc? do you see this place as a legitimate dinner option or more of a snack, or late night stop? also, any comparison with the yakatori places in nyc? in the same league, or to soon to tell?
-
thanks all. lotsa people must feel as you do because the best i could do was get waitlisted for saturday night.
-
bump. thinking of going here this w/e. anyone been recently? or heard anything?
-
the printed label on my purchase of 12/31/07 makes no mention of bellota. the label states: jamon iberico, boneless spanish ham from acorn fed pata negra. no mention of bellota anywhere.

i concur. i bought some for new years eve and it is a real treat. had it with grosses gewachs reisling (auslese trocken, from "grand cru" designated vineyards) lovely, lovely, indulgence.

sorry, but.......... since when is $3/ lb for duck considered expensive? i routinely pay $3.50/lb for d'artagnan whole ducks and consider it a bargain for the quality.
-
i think you're opening this wine way too soon. if you have good storage i'd let this go for another 4 years minimum.

mcduff's link is to his blog which is his impressions of the last meal he had there. i've been to the farm table dinners a couple times recently and the food is exceptionally good. to not go and at least try the take out items, just because you found the review too fawning is to really miss out, imo.

jim- i too love tribut's wines. bought plenty of '05 chablis. isn't he related to dauvissat somehow? i seem to remember hearing their wineries are next door to each other and he is a brother in law or cousin of dauvissat. btw, it's still unseasonably warm in delaware. not good for moving wine.

these rec's may be a little unusual for this forum but for something completely different... how about wilmington? you could take the train down and cab over to either Domain Hudson or the Hotel DuPont. the green room at the hotel definetly fits the fine dining aspect, Domain a little less so, but still a classy place. i 've been to both recently (domaine 3 times in the last month) food and service was excellent each time. both places have pretty serious wine lists also.

some names i've enjoyed: domaine vissoux, pierre chermette imported by weygandt-metzler. georges descombes, terres dorees (jean-paul brun), michael tete, all imported by dressner. pasacal granger imported by (i believe) rosenthal.
