"An elephant? You think too much of yourself. Nobody will answer since the question has no general relevance to the topic." why is it irrelevant? alinea is one of the great restaurants in the country. apparantly, there is no current pastry chef. i think the question is totally relevant. just because some people don't like the answer doesn't make the question irrelevant.

i called korin and they said the sale prices won't be on the web until 4/1/07. but if you order now just put in the comment section you want the 15% off sale price and they will adjust.

fyi to all- korin (link in previous post) is having a clearance sale, which they seem to fairly often, and the konro grills are marked down 15%. the charcoal is also reduced 15%. the sumi charcoal is discounted to $100! a screaming bargain... seriously, i've ordered lots of stuff from them and they are very reliable.

"I was also thrilled to see the 2005 Domaine Brana Irouleguy Rosado on the list. This is an item that was carried by Moore Bros. a while back until they mysteriously discontinued it. " the decision to no longer carry this wine was out of moore brothers' hands. there were some issues with the importer.

yes, capaneus, i was reacting to the statement that the sommelier selections were: ".....sommelier-selected, small-production, highly rated wines from some of the finest producers and growing regions in the world at significant savings." i mean, i hope this is the case but, this statement makes my bs meter shoot up into the red. -

but then they wouldn't be "highly rated" wines........ -

"....offers sommelier-selected, small-production, highly rated wines from some of the finest producers and growing regions in the world at significant savings." not sure how they will be able to do this. highly rated, small production wines usually don't need to be sold off in bulk at discounts. -

there is some news about the chairmans selections and two , i guess, new sales promos. this is the link http://www.prnewswire.com/news/index_mail....004550943&EDATE. seems there has been a sommelier that helped with the chairmans selections in the past who is now in charge of the sommelier selections, power purchases, and chairmans selections. -
i like molcajete mixto alot and would recommend it. however, it's not an "upscale" experience. definetly a couple big steps up from a taqueria, but it's byo, and on kind of a dreary cornor, but the food is really good.

maybe i'm being a bit anal here but, ...........isn't it bruSchetta? and isn't bruschetta toasted bread w/ olive oil and garlic? the toppings put on bruschetta can vary widely, no?

"I have the grill now and just need to find the charcoal and Sous Vide some steaks." hey percy- the charcoal can be had at www.korin.com
-
yes, i've grilled shrimp, hangar, pork tenderloin, boneless chicken thighs. it works well, burns long and hot. no smoke either, so it imparts a subtler flavor than traditional charcoal.
-
hey v, are you sure that isn't sumi charcoal? the bincho i have is a more cylindrical (is that a word?) shape, without the hollow center.

"I suppose all visitors to the city have our street grid memorized as well, no-one should visit an establishment without mapping it first. Egads, it would kill the guy to say, "it's several blocks north of City Hall, look for a big condo building?" um, that's kinda the point. we don't know that he didn't offer that advice, becaus ethe account wasn't first hand.

you will probably find that the wineries you are visiting will have wines that they don't export. at least, that's what i've encountered in my travels. it's always surprising to visit a place, whose wines i am familiar with through purchasing in america, and discover they have old vintages, swet wines, sparklers, etc. that never make it to the states for whatever reason.

phil- any comments on the wine list or beer offerings?
-
i don't think it's fair to any establishment to post about incidents that come second hand. messages, stories, intentions, etc. can change quite a bit from what really happened when passed along this way. also, does it really matter that the couple at the bar was lesbian? would it have mattered if they were straight?

"Herr's "Philly Cheese Steak" potato chips. Huh? Do they actually make these chips taste like meat? Anyone had them? Are they any good? I can't say they appeal to me, but I gather there is a market for them. " i haven't had them but, there is a british potato chip that comes in all sorts of flavors. roast chicken, steak, cheese, etc, and ,yeah, they taste like chicken or steak.

yes, mcduff is full time at moore brothers delaware. i can assure everyone he has no interest, financial or otherwise, with talula's. he just really digs their food. so do i, btw. i may actually run up there today for dinner and report back tomorrow.
