  1. Its been a while, but from what I recall, I would prefer Devi's dosas. Devi has a Chef from Madras, the land the dosas, who seems to do an excellent job with them. At Devi and other dosa places I would recommend ordering the dosas from the menu, not as a side dish with the buffet.
  2. Here are some of the wines we paired with the dishes.... Thanks to all dining companions who generously shared their wine and mind And Evan, if you sniff out some white truffles, give me a call

    Dinner! 2005

Time to start thinking about holiday pot luck menus, etc so I decided to make an appetizer of Parmesan Crisps with Asian Pear and Serrano Ham (no Prosciutto in stock) First bake the parmesan in discs Once it melts, let it cool for a minute and shape into cones. I haven't had a good steak in a while, so I got this Prime dry aged angus from the freezer And whisked up sides of these gorgeous baby purple potatoes, shitake mushrooms and some shrimp Baby Arugula salad, with one of the parmesan crisps in it And the main course
  4. This really makes me want to run to my grocery and find those glistening salmon caviar eggs to top my scrambled eggs, percyn! Thanks for your inspiration! and your bread pudding french toast, Andie? Amazing how a diet like my current one crumbles in the path of such glory! Thanks for the photos! ← Thanks... And hopefully this will add to it... Soft-boiled egg with salmon caviar Hard-boiled egg with salmon caviar
  5. Its been a few years since I have been here (and if it is the place I am thinking of). I recall them having a decent chat night where they served Bhel, Sev Puri, etc on the weekends.
  6. The STH dumpling are growing on me. I like the hint of sweetness in the spicy sauce, along with sesame oil. This is their version and this is the version I am used to I also tried their Dan Dan noodles, which were good, but it got a LOT better when I mixed in the left over sauce from the dumplings
  7. The different words having different meaning brings up an important question. Who is the target clientel? Americans or Thai/Indians? I realize that NYC is more cosmopolitan than other cities, but if you are targeting Thai/Indian clientel, you can use words like Sawasdee, which may not have specific meaning to the average person in NYC. Don't mean to start any flames here, just making a simple marketing point.
  8. Suprised that there aren't more votes for France. Anway, since Thailand seems to be high on people's list, here are some food pictures from my trip a few months ago. http://www.imagestation.com/album/index.html?id=2121706961
  9. For a casual meal, whitehouse subs are good... You can sit inside and see if you can recognize the pictures of the people and their autographs on the wall Or enjoy the action... Here is half a turkey and cheese And the White House special, which was packed with all sorts of meat. If you are in the mood for some 'cue, you can try Corky's in the Tropicana Quarter. The ribs I got were well smoked, but seemed like they had been sitting out for a while. The pulled pork was excellent. There are a few decent places in the quarter, such as Brulee (a dessert only place which is open only in the evenings), Cuba Libre, Carmines, Red Square, etc. The Borgata has a few decent restaurants, including Specchio, Ombra (2 upscale Italian places), Homestead steakhouse and Susana Foos. It also has a casual Bistro/Deli and NOW, a place that sells different types of noodles from all over the world. None of them will compare to Philly or NYC dining, but it is much better than what was available in AC a few years ago. I remember visiting Las Vegas and hating the food. Now people travel there for it.
  10. Today I made Scrambled eggs with mushroom and salmon caviar

    Dinner! 2005

On Sunday I decided to do Chicken Two-ways : Fried and Smoked The fried chicken was soaked overnight in buttermilk, seasoned in Emeril's essense, drenched in a mixture of AP and corn flour and fried. The smoked chicken was seasoned with a bunch of herbs and a secret ingredient and smoked over hickory for 1.5 hrs. Since I had the smoker and fryer going, I also decided to make a smoked pork chop, grill a squash and make some homemade fries. Yesterday I made Skatewing in a lemon burre blanc sauce with shitake mushrooms, kapers and orzo
  12. Breakfast today was a simple pot of French Press coffee and a slice of cranberry nut bread. Yesterday's secret ingredient was...you guessed it.... DUCK !! No making fun of my eggs or sausage please

    Dinner! 2005

Yesterday my wife somewhat surprised me by saying she wanted to cook dinner...after giving it some thought, I agreed Dinner consisted of: Salad - Lettuce, carrots, spring onions, tomatoes and topped with jalsberg cheese and thousand island Shitake Chicken on Basmati Rice - Not bad...considering she cooks a few meals a year. Dessert - Grand Marnier marinated Rasberries and Strawberries with Hershey ice cream Cheers Percy
  16. WOW !! Good job everyone. Daniel, I will have to try that out soon. Alina, those scones look great !! Yesterday, for breakfast I had: Amish homemade (not my home) apple sausage with Scrambled Eggs on Toast Drizzled with some of the sausage pan juice

    Dinner! 2005

Wow !! Really good looking and I am sure tasting meals everyone. Unfortunately, I have not had time to cook for over a week, but the wifey made some Meatball Lasagna after I saw Alina's terrific version.
  18. Last week I had a not so pleasant experience at Tifcos. I went in with Za Jiang Mein on my mind but after ordering it, I was notified 15 minutes later that they do not have it today. OK, lets try the Spicy Pomfret (a small flat fish), 5 minutes later...you guessed it...no fish. By now I was wondering if they kitchen was playing games, but I decided to give it one last shot....Scallion pancakes and Crispy duck please... Ten minutes later I got a piece of fried dough with a few scallions in the dough. Dooooohhh !!! (I was expecting something that was not fied, but that's how you learn the dishes I guess) 20 minutes later the duck arrived. I was expecting some moo shu type pancakes with this, but there were none. I requested a few and they were kind enough to provide them. The skin was not as crispy as I would have liked, but the size of the dish was also decent for the price. So after about 2 hrs at Tifcos, I was all oiled out from the fried food. I really hope they have the spicy pomfret and Za Jiang Mein next time
  19. Wine scribe was trying to stay awake at work So once again, I will append a few pics to Philadining's and mention the wines we paired with the dishes. Our gracious hosts also shared a bottle of Fontalrosso Chianti Colli Senesi, which was made by their relative in Tuscany. Nice, bold, full bodied wine that needed some time to breath. Thanks to Mr + Mrs I_call_the_duck, Herb and all the wonderful dining companions. Shola, this meal was certainly kicked-up a notch....I can still taste that tomato soup....hmmmm !!! Cheers Percy
  20. Went to the new Bonefish Grill in Exton with some friends. This is a restaurant chain (I believe owned by the same group that runs Outback Steak house, but don't worry, this one has a hip, more upscale theme) which I have seen in FL, but never tried. The service was excellent and food pretty good and not too bad for a chain. I would recommend the Tuna Sashimi, Calamari with Thai chili sauce and Bang Bang shrimp as an appetizer. My entree was the pistachio parmasean encrusted trout, which I would also recommend.

    A panini press?

    Dinner! 2005

Dinner yesterday was Beef Pho - Unfortunately, not homemade, but not bad
  23. Absolutely....I love how well it transfers the heat to things in the press. As for the French toast, it gives a nice visual appeal and texture while really not compressing the toasts too much. For breakfast yesterday, I made fried eggs with apple maple sausage. The maple infuses a sweet flavor which signifies breakfast (at least for me).
  24. Yesterday I had some left over Sturgeon with cream cheese on a bagel Today I made Shitake scrambled eggs with maple sausage - In case you are wondering, the stripes on the sausage are because I heated it in the panini press...hey gotta try it.
