  1. I've heard very good things about soapstone. I haven't gotten any stones yet though, my family's friend in construction said he had tons of those red quarry tiles I could have. Nothing yet...
  2. Last Sunday, my family I happened to be in Hackettstown to pick peaches at a PYO farm (Tree-licious Orchards). Right before I left the house, I read this thread and printed it out in case we needed to find a good restaurant. I must say, this place is excellent. The service is great, and the fish is very fresh. I'd go every week, but the hour and a half drive from Brooklyn to Hackettstown is a bit too much. :P We ordered a big ol' sushi and sashimi platter. Pictures follow.
  3. Well, I guess cold water does the trick. I'd rather not use ice though - just in case. But, I wonder where my dad got the soy sauce idea from.
  4. I've been wondering for a while about this - what's the best way to treat burns? Everybody seems to say something different. Some people say a plunge in cold water works. My father told me to never put cold water onto a burn. He's worked in his family's restaurant business for a good portion of his life, so that's pretty convincing. I'm still not so sure about the effectiveness of either one though. Any help?
  5. I absolutely will not eat preserved duck eggs. My mother makes jook with it, and I can't bear to eat the eggs. My sister love 'em though, so I just spoon them into her bowl.
  6. My family keeps every condiment in the fridge. Hoisin sause goes bad really fast, even in the fridge. My father slathers hoisin and black bean sauces on every meat marinade he does, so we go through the bottles of Lee Kum Kee fairly quickly.
