Well, the objective was to try and find a lone bottle of RZ Centenario thinking that I would have better luck in California than NY/NJ, since the importer is in California, but no such luck yet. I do have some inquries in at the local stores here, so if they can get any at all they will call and ship to me.

Had a good day rum hunting today in the San Francisco area -- found a bottle of Pyrat XO and a Mount Gay Extra old, as well as a 1983 vintage rum from Jamaica from a lesser-known producer. Really looking forward to trying the Pyrat XO when I get home.

Flor de Cana has a nice golden color, its quite similar in flavor to the Cruzan Estate Single Barrel, although not quite as intense.

The best deep fryer in the world is a 25 dollar hand hammered wok purchased in chinatown. No home deep fryer unit comes close. Fill with peanut oil and fry up whatever you want. Just remember to reserve your frying oil using a strainer in a plastic vessel (those plastic deli soup or chinese soup containers work great) to get out the burnt bits floating around. You can probably reuse the oil half a dozen times before changing it.

Was able to pick up a lone bottle of this at a small liquor shop in NY a few days ago. Despite the fact it is only 7 years old it has some very deep flavors, very smooth, although not smoky.

Marva's Southern Cuisine in Bergenfield on Washington St. Primarily for ribs but their bbq chicken and their side dishes are very good. I also mentioned Cubby Q's in Hackensack in a different thread.

I'll second Tommy's choice for Molly's. #### good. Jackson Hole is also very good but I think the NJ location in Englewood is a tad better. http://www.fabuloustravel.com/gourmet/outtolunch/xmas.html Downtown my choice goes to McSorleys - cheap and good. Simple, unadorned. Goes great with some brews and a liedenranz cheese plate.

Holly re the grillman... well Manna does have have a VERY limited and focused menu, so its not that tough for the cook to handle since everyone is basically eating the same thing. What is impressive, however, is that he/she knows how many burgers each customer is eating, and whether or not they have cheese or pickles or onions on them or whatever ... you definitely have to be detail oriented for sure.

Ron Zacapa... why is this rum impossible to get?

ELA post your information here, because I think a lot of people including Ed would like to know the "real deal" -
It doesnt look very big, but its not uncommon to see more than 10 people in there at once. Its like that British sci-fi TV show, Dr. Who, where they fit all those people into a space ship the size of a telephone booth.

I think I'm generally a toro man, but when in season I've been known to order several amaebi (sweet shrimp) I also love deep fried soft shell crab maki. Futomaki is always part of my order, I love seeing how its prepared at differnt sushi places.

I've been going absolutely crazy trying to get even a single bottle of this rum. I've gone to specialty liquor stores and have had them pour over distributor catalogs, etc, but no luck at all. Sams Wine doesnt have it anymore and every other web distributor source on Ed's site doesnt have it either. What to do?

This was emailed to me today by a member: Just to clarify a bit. The deli in Fort Lee which was Sol and Sol is now Al's Kosher Deli. Sol and Sol, which originated in Englewood more than 40 or so years ago is now back (the son) across from Baumgarts on Palisades Ave. By the way, Al of Fort Lee is a 90 year old Italian gentleman who they say owns half the property in town. Quite a character who once sang for some bands and was in a couple of Sinatra movies. To look at him you would swear he was no more than 70. You can find him in the deli 7 days a week bitching about how hard life is. Very funny because he needs this deli like he needs another you know what. More than a few of us have made him substantial offers but he refuses to sell. Loves the work. Certainly does need any more money. It should only happen to me.

One of the best things you can do with a Cidre Bouche (norman cider) or any cider really is to cook mussels in their shells with olive oil, shallots and parsley, and then add cider, and simmer. Serve a generous portion of this to each guest, sop this up with some french or italian bread.. fantastic.

I second Harold's, although they arent Kosher. Their triple deckers are massive... enough for 3 people. Really like their turkey clubs. SERIOUS knishes and matzoball soup too. The kosher deli across the street in the shopping center with Noodle Chu is also pretty good. Theres a few different glaat kosher delis in Teaneck on the main drag there, I tried MaaDan yesterday, expensive but very good. I havent tried Noah's Ark yet. Saul and Saul in Fort Lee is good, as is the Tenafly Kosher Deli.

Ed please do tell about these new rums.... premium I hope?

I saw a TV special once about NY delis, where the current owner of Katz's was interviewed for a particular segment. The interviewer pointed to pictures on Katz's walls, which included shots of piled-high pastrami sandwiches. "What are those?" the interviewer asked. "Jewish Pornography" replied the owner.

The pics really dont do it justice. Smelling them coming off the grill does.

I almost bought a bottle of Appleton 250th anniversary rum when I was in jamaica this year, the hotel I was at had a single bottle of it at its cigar store. It was nearly 300 dollars a bottle as well. Somehow, I think my wife would have gone ballistic had I purchased that one. I decided to go on an austerity budget and get two bottles of the 21 year old instead...

Is'>http://www.internetwines.com/rws20509.htmlIs this actually worth nearly 300 dollars a bottle or is this all marketing b.s.?if its been aged for more than 30 years, I could see it being valuable but other than that...

Wild Ginger is excellent -- Nobu quality, definitely. Pricey though. I went through about 贬 for a modest dinner between my wife and myself... and that place is BYOB...

In my opinion, next to Fish and Chips, shepherds pie is England's most notable contribution to world cuisine. -
Mcsorley's has an amazing history -- it was operational as a bar during prohibition (a common irish cop hangout) and only permitted women to enter as of the late 70's. I think Joe Kennedy's sneakers are actually still hanging from the non-operational ceiling fan. In addition to some of the freshest ale in the city, they make a really mean hamburger dirt cheap and their cheese plate with liedenkranz and onions combined with that mustard of theirs really hits the spot when you've had about 3 or 4 pints of their light and dark in succession.
