  1. I'm right there with you Neil: 12 for me.
  2. The one on the pier no longer exists, having been replaced by another restaurant of the same ilk. Any reviews on Mr. Pickwick's? I walked by its Denman Street location the other day and wondered if it was any good.
  3. Yes to "turn-your-lights-on" service for these locations as well.
  4. Gracias chica!
  5. Now, before I get all excited and sign up, is the Serious Foodie course just being offered on Monday evenings this fall, or will they be running multiple evenings during the week as they did in the spring? No matter what anyone says, "lite" speed internet is a total fallacy. Still waiting on my ADSL connection here at the cabin.
  6. The OCD eater's dream topic. Loads of butter. Stalk end in left hand, pointy end in right. Channeler, definitely channeler, from left to right. However, I turn the corn cob down towards me so that I'm biting up with my bottom teeth for a reason opposite to MT-Tarragon's: so that I don't get stuff caught between my upper teeth. There's a bit more of a space between my two upper middle teeth than between their lower counterparts, and I find the feeling of having food wedged between my lower teeth infinitely more annoying. As an aside, sprinkling sugar on buttered corn is a very common practice in the Philippines.

  8. And a truly wonderful cake it was! Again, thank you so very much.

  13. I did! Almost forgot bison/buffalo burgers, not to mention bison hot dogs. There's also bannock and fry bread (the not-so-sweet cousin of beaver/whale tails). And I've been wanting to forget "Baby Duck"... "baby Canadian champagne".

  15. Some of the best burgers that Vancouver has to offer. Here's a website link for Vera's Burger Shack. And, of course, the requisite photos from a Vancouver, BC Burger Club excursion.

  17. Saturdays have been in the rotation for two weeks now. This'll be their third weekend open.
  18. Rhonda Marie May publishes an excerpt from Watermark's latest press relase in today's Daily CityFood.
  19. I appreciate that sanrensho... now if only the shipping costs to the west coast didn't total more than the price of one box of tea, I'd be all set. Over the course of my Google searches, I've found both a Canadian and a Californian distributor for Twinings; sadly, however, neither one carries the Vanilla and Coconut blend. And so the search continues.
  20. Here's a link to the Twinings Vanilla Coconut tea that I mentioned upthread. It's the tropics in a cup. Heaven, especially on a rainy afternoon when you need a vicarious dose of sunshine. To quote the website: Unfortunately, Twinings only does mail order in the UK, so I'd be eternally grateful if anyone manages to source a North American supplier of this particular blend.
  21. Welcome to the eGullet madhouse Jen! Here's a bit more input from an earlier thread on the demise of Hot Dog Jonny's. Though Anne made reference to this February blurb from the Georgia Straight on owner John Zwickel's return to his corporate roots, there was a Hot Dog Jonny's stand operating at this May's Children's Festival. Wonder what the explanation is behind that... busman's holiday, perhaps? My bison dog was, by the way, delicious. Edited to be well-mannered and welcoming.

  23. Lee, great photos... happy to have another inhabitant in cameraloserland! We were just up the block from you this evening at Hapa and strolled past Norboo to walk off a few of the thousands of calories that we consumed at dinner. Question: how did this meal compare in quality to Jang Mo Jib? I've been quite curious about Norboo for a while and am more than happy to read your take on it. SIDE NOTE: Holy freakin' food geek Batman... 1,000 posts? Someone rescue me from the time-sucking vortex that is eGullet!
  24. Frances, how very humanitarian of you! I never would've thought of that. Karole, not OT at all, especially considering Lee's antics with his behemoth of the deep upthread. I'll definitely have to give steamed crab a try when we hit the deck at Salt Spring. Thanks for posting the details and allowing us to feast vicariously with you.
  25. Now, if they were the right kind of mushrooms...
