  1. Looks like Thomas's or Sams, or Thomas's....
  2. Gaucho claim to have cheese from some swanky supplier (lafromagerie?) I fancy Thomas's, but the Gaucho has already had a vote from my dining (lunching?) companion so I'm still no further on! Thanks everyone (even Bertie, and yes I am gong to resist the temptation to use a smilie)
  3. You can stick your recommendations up your arse then (Do I need to put a smilie here?) Problem is, we're going on Saturday, and the Market isn't open. But thanks anyway There you see, I did it! Which chop house is best? Anyone been to the Gaucho? Ta
  4. I had thought about Juniper, might be worth the extra hassle to get there. Cheers
  5. I'm fully aware of the different requests for Manchester recommendations, but as I had a specific request, thought it worth asking again. Your sarcasm Bertie would also be more tolerable if your recommendation actually fitted what I asked for.
  6. Taking a friend out for lunch in Manchester and they've requested 'A long lazy lunch, with decent cheese at the end' I can't think of anywhere central that fits the bill. Anyone got any thoughts?
  7. What an interesting concept, he could pop a nitro green tea and lime mousse in yo ass
  8. Oh man, Hestons such a gangsta bad boi!
  9. Well, unless you want to criticise Heston, then you'll have Zoticus running up and down your trouser leg snapping at your nuts.
  10. I know what Pink Fir Apples are. It's pink FUR apples I wasn't sure about. Yes I was being pedantic and I apologise, it's late, I've been at work too long and I need to get to bed.
  11. Furry apples? Sounds vile!
  12. I give without making a fuss. I do not go showing my friends etc, copies of my bank statements containing my charitable direct debits. ← So why mention it now? I appreciate you're hardly making a fuss, but you're certainly bringing to peoples attention and using the fact you never mention it to make yourself seem different to the rest of the world, but you're hardly defying human nature, rather exemplifying it. ← An example purely for the purpose of the debate, and remember examples are often hypothetical of course . I maybe should have used the term 'others' instead of 'I'. Friday afternoons eh ← Of course examples are hypothetical, and don't get me wrong, if I wasn't such a mean, miserable bastard I'd casually slip in here that I regularly donate to my local sanctuary for terminally uncharitable forum users, but I of course don't like to talk about it.

  14. I don't really have a problem with the fat tongued mockney, but after hearing him speaking twice in the last seven days (Top Gear last Sunday and Chris Evans on Radio Two in the week) I was by the second time, rather bored of his repeated use of the words 'Well, I did spend most of my school days in special needs classes' Yes, I sympathise with his fairly well documented struggle with dyslexia, but is this where he's headed next in his role as champion of the under privileged?
  15. Just had a quick look, there's quite a few on there.
  16. try www.abebooks.co.uk the best place I've found for out of print or just difficult to find books
  17. Marmite is vile, it's been scientifically proven.
  18. They'll never go for that, far too revolutionary.
  19. You're all wonderful people and I'll be looking into your suggestions. Time for a bit of hands on research I think! If and when the project comes to anything, I'll let you all know so you can sit and shout at the telly when we pick everybody else's choice but yours. Jon
  20. Great suggestions, both just the kind of thing we're after, thanks a lot.
  21. I'm doing some research for a TV show I'm working on, and one thing we're interested in shooting a piece about is peoples favourite cafes, ones serving good, unpretentious, slightly old school food, but not in an ironic way, just because that's all they've ever done. Anywhere from greasy spoons to Asian formica tabled cafes to tea room type establishments is of interest, they must be cheap, and must be good! All contributions gratefully received! Thanks, Jon
  22. It's on both carriageways, and has great meat, some good veg, and great ready made pies etc plus a well stocked deli. They also sell products from the local Penrith Smokery, excellent sausages!
  23. I still like Yang Sing and really like Red Chilli. If I was having a chinese in Manchester this weekend, it would be Red Chilli I reckon
  24. Never been to the Westmoreland Tebay services on the M6 near Penrith then? An excellent farm shop right in the middle of the service station, it can be done!
  25. Where do you cook?
