  1. Atariyas fish is some of the best I've seen.
  2. Just don't start bleating when Ronald McDonald tells you they don't take reservations either
  3. Looking forward to it Sat. We've struggled to top last years meal at your place, in fact we've failed, so the bar is set pretty high for this year
  4. Aye It's Jo's birthday mid June........ We now have a ritual, Sat's for hers, Anthonys for mine When are you going? Hold on a second Didn't you do exactly the same thing last year and book for June ---just like me today? ←
  5. We read that at the weekend, didn't believe it for a second, daft thing to publicise really, it will put people off booking.
  6. Just booked a table at Sats for dinner in June, anyone been lately?
  7. Had dinner at Anthonys last week for the first time, can't do a detailed write up, as we had too much booze and I don't have a copy of the tasting menu.... There were no duds as far as I was concerned and highlights were an amuse of beef consomme with smoked haddock, a piece of braised pig cheek and a 'crab sandwich' (all parts of seperate dishes by the way, just realised it could read as if they were all one dish, I better get the Gaggia switched on to sharpen my mind) Jo didn't like a couple of elements, a chocolate based sauce with the duck (but then she has a spastic aversion to sweet/savoury combos which I''m trying to beat out of her) She also thought elements of a few dishes were superfluous, I didn't agree, but then after a bottle of the Deus Champagne beer I probably wasn't thinking straight. Anthony can cook, make no mistake. The staff are all warm and friendly, and seemed to enjoy working there. We had a chat with Olga before we went into the restaurant, mainly about Anthonys TV appearance that week. We'll certainly be back, and I can't believe we left it so long before visiting.
  8. I'll second Ann Purna in Edinburgh, fantastic food.
  9. I certainly don't agree with this, I don't have gas at home. I'm using, and not through choice, Halogen hobs and they can get more than hot enough to cook a steak, I think rather than challenges, the lack of gas brings excuses!
  10. If you're there for two months, it might be wise to get a couple in.
  11. Really enjoyed it so far, as you say it is pretty predictable. Looking forward to tonights, Anthony Flinn is on isn't he? and as we're going there this weekend I'll be getting a taster of what's to come.........
  12. How can someone who namechecks Gentle Giant be old fashioned? Rock On Andy you're sooo old fashioned, get with the programme grandad ←
  13. Thanks for the help everyone, a little bird tells me that Allium is open for Sunday lunch, so I think we'll either set off early, have a massive lunch then sleep the rest of the day, or do as Gary suggests and just do the whole drive Monday morning, I would like some Stein fish and chips, as we hadn't got any Stein visits planned for this trip. And yes Gary, I live near Harrogate now.
  14. We're off down to Padstow in the summer and are trying to find somewhere open on the Sunday night to eat, and break the journey, having looked at all the places we'd like to go, (LCS, Allium, Lumiere, Walnut Tree) none of them open on a Sunday, does anyone know of anywhere worth visiting, roughly on the way to Cornwall? I we can't find anywhere I'll just do the whole drive on Monday and arrive in a grumpy mood.
  15. Still haven't made it to LCS, and your report makes me want to visit even more, thanks a lot for such an interesting read.
  16. Had another Red Chilli lunch yesterday, tried a few new things, including the chilli/pork/green bean dish mentioned elsewhere, really really good. Just as good, and much better than I was expecting was the shredded fillet steak and chilli dish, I know it sounds like something from your local takeaway menu, which is usually a bad sign, but it was awesome, really good meat, crispy on the outside, but with a gorgeous soft tender centre, loads of chilli (of course) and some (pickled?) vegetables made it an excellent choice, though to be honest it was similar enough to the pork/green bean dish to mean I wouldn't order the two together again, but I'm not sure which I'll choose next time I visit. My first Red Chilli disappointment was the belly pork claypot dish, which while a pleasant antidote to the chilli dishes, being almost chilli free (it did have some wonderful pickled green chillis in it, but they were not prominent unless you aimed for them) really disappointed in the meat, it was very thin belly slices, streaky baconesque, whereas I prefer my vitamin P in chunks. Service was of course brusque but efficient, but I don't go there for the service.
  17. I used to live with a fairly hardcore ALF activist, crusty vegan type, knew nothing about food, just objected to Foie on cultural grounds, it's posh innit. No point targetting battery chicken farming, as it's battery chickens that sustain the downtrodden working man, whilst the toffs dine on foie and larks tongues. When will the larks tongue backlash start I wonder?
  18. Went to Sams in Leeds last Sunday and had a pretty good meal, Corned beef hash cake to start then steak and kidney pudding. Everything was as good as you would hope, and the wine list was reasonable, if not the most inspired we had a £20 bin end Primitivo.
  19. Cut and pasted from the Gourmet Spot website 'For those major “foodies” who have waited patiently for Sean’s “Surreal Menu”, the experimentation is complete and on the menu. Be prepared to be shocked!' I think I'll pass thanks.........
  20. Just got back from Red Chilli Leeds, Beijing dumplings and steamed pork buns both well made and pretty enjoyable, the two stars were our main courses though, the poached lamb chilli dish, and braised pigs trotters, both amazing, and totally different to each other, the lamb dish had me sweating like Gary Glitter in a playground, and the trotters were the perfect antidote, superbly cooked, and in a very tasty sauce which managed to avoid all the Chinese sauce cliches. Will have to try the Red Chilli in York, will be difficult to walk past Akbars without popping in for their wonderful Lahori specialities, but I'm sure I can manage it.
  21. http://www.northumberlandfarmersmarkets.or.../thismonth.html http://www.thebestof.co.uk/middlesbrough/2...he_best_of.aspx google is your friend........
  22. It's all about magnetism isn't it? If you can't get any of them working, and want to get rid, let me know what you have and maybe we can come to an arrangement.......
  23. Funnily enough I'm eating salt haddock and pulses tonight I really doubt that the empty shelves are due to a lack of seasonal produce, as stocks of Israeli tomatoes are as low as Yorkshire cauliflowers in Harrogate Waitrose today, I visited purely for research purposes you see.
  24. Make the most of it and stop buying fresh food from supermarkets, it's a sign I tell you, a sign!
