  1. I believe microsoft has something called Recipe Wizard. This program has three layout formats so you can choose the one which suits you. I hve only seen this once at a friend's house. She can also use this program to include a shopping list. I also use a three ring binder for recipes and in the course of binder shopping I realized that plastic isn't pretty but it's perfect for the kitchen. If you still want pretty then the Exposures catalogue has lovely binders that you can have personalized. I looked at some stamping binders andthese were too foofy-pretty for my taste and not very practical in the kitchen as they were fabric-bound. I hope this helps. Kathryn

  3. In our first apartment we used wall hung CD storage in the kitchen. The system worked well for spices, mugs for tea and the jar that I kept my wooden spoons in. They were inexpensive and readily available, and when we moved to a place with a bigger kitchen, we used them for CD's. Good luck!
  4. If you are lucky,"morning sickness" won't last much longer. And it's worth it ,trust me. So you have to live on boiled potatoes for a while. Painful, true, but not so bad for the greater good(not having vomit on your shoes). Just stay away from broccoli or members of the cabbage family and have saltines by your beloved's bedside at all times. Good luck and hang in there.
  5. I'd have to agree with the Solomon book. In fact, I just made the recipe for Sayur Buncis last night and it was sooo good! I also love Laurie Colwin's two books. I read them at night when I can't sleep. And of course you can justify the Time-Life series but I could never warm to the Food of Scandanavia... Maybe it's the herring? I know that Alford and Duguin's Flatbreads and Flavors isn't that old but I've worn the binding out of mine.
  6. 106 not counting some I have out on loan. (who am I kidding, they're never coming back to me )
  7. My son's first sentence, I remember it clearly, was "I want more pate'". He is still a child (8) asks for sushi for his birthday. Lest you think I'm patting myself on the back for raising such a marvellous child I also need to tell you that my Daughter's favorite food is macaroni and cheese and she would be happy to eat only this for the rest of her days. Yes, we need to expose our kids to many different tastes and experiences and YES , we also need to respect the choices they make(within reason). Our kids must take what we call a "no thank you" bite of everything. Sometimes no thank you turns into "more please". OKbrewer, it is nice to know that your daughter is able to express her feelings about food. Teenage girls esp. need halthy attitudes toward food.
  8. I'm new to all of this, forgive me if I go out of bounds. Put some in sugar and you have a nifty flavoring, add some to black tea with cardamom and peppercorns for wonderful tea-hot or cold. Throw some in your next batch of biscotti, make a weak simple syrup and add zest- then roll a pork loin in this goo and roast... I think there are possibilities as yet undreamed.
  9. I have a very wide taping knife from home Depot that I bought for .79 about four years ago. Perfect for Handling masses of bread dough, transferring chopped veggies and lifting delicate fish filets. Also my monster mortar and pestle from the oriental grocery, $10.00 and indestructible.
