  1. Bleu, I want to do this diet also, but would like the French version. Can I buy the book at FNAC in Paris? I travel to Paris 3-5 times per month and will bring back the legal ingredients...and maybe some not so legal. Your photography is stunning. Those stairs with the grafitti, is that Vieux Lyon going towrds the church on the hill. I thought I recognized the grafitti on it! (not mine:) ). Which bools of all that he has published would you recommend? I see he has one specifically for women. I cannot imagine giving up my French food! So Please help!!!!
  2. Kenny, Was the Chapeau Rouge in the heart of downtown Dijon? I have nightmares about driving in that city after my hub had to drive on the sidewalk after turning the wrong way on a street that goes one direction during one light and the opposite on the following light!
  3. Bistro Bis in the Hill area has a wonderful chefs menu for about $60. The portions are very generous. The quality great. I am not sure if they will pair it with wine, as we brought our own bottles.
  4. No, Ma Cuisine has no outside seating. Then again I was there in October...but it is in a little side street (some would call it an alley). But seriously, it is an unbelievable value for what you recedive The wine list has wines you would not be able to get anywhere else as the owner is friends with most of the local vintners. Please, please try it and let me know what you think.
  5. I would like to go to the Regalade one last time before Yves leaves. Does anyone know if his final day has come yet?
  6. I ate at Jardin des Ramparts last year. It was a wonderful meal, but I would nnot call it memorable as I do not remember much of it. But like the other poster I strongly recommend Ma Cuisine. It has an immense winelist, incredible food, copious servings, and unbelievable prices. You MUST call ahead and make a reservation, the place is small and frequented by locals, especially the local vintners!

    Dollar/Euro

Well the good news (if you can consider this good news) is that with interest rates about to rise, the dollar will grow stronger. It has already risen quite a bit in the past few days.
  8. I had never really heard of Nectar's before this forum. I'd seen it on Opentable.....but since I knew nothing... But hey, I am going tonight. There will be six of us. I can't wait!
  9. So maybe the way not to offend Cathar's sensitivity is to write in Castellano? Los que han comido en El Bulli digan la verdad, es un sitio que no se debe de perder, or solamente unos de los restos del momento? Perdonen mi Espanol se hablarlo, soy Cubana, pero nunca lo estudie.
  10. while we're at the subject of Carrefour, can anyone figure out what the name of the shopping center tht the Carrefour nearest the airport is? It is right before the Usines Center as you are heading towards Charles De Gaulle. I have been on their website Carrefour but still can't figure it out. The reson I am asking is I cannot remember whch bus to take there from the Hyatt CDG. I have been on their website and looked at my Michelin maps til I am crosseyed! All I want to do is get the correct bus and the concierges at the Hyatt are so clueless it is scary. Aargh......
  11. Those nice juicy big duck breasts that you eat, guess what duck provides a good percentage of them? Yep, those poor little critters being force fed! I think we should ban duck breasts also, what do you say? While we're at it let's ban honey, those poor bees must get depressed when we take it, and chicken eggs imagine the hen's depression, how cruel is that? Let's ban chickens because of the inhumane treatment, can anyone else think of anything else. Personally I think those who oppose Foie Gras must of had a traumatic experience earlier in life and are not able to bond with humans hence they bond with ducks.
  12. Bux, I am awful at names but at the closest train station to you in Cartagena, there is a lovely little cobblestone street leading to a Government building? If you get there walk the street, the best Tortilla Espanola I have ever had in my life was down that street. Unfortuantely you might have to try tthem all! There is also an ice cream shop with the absolute best Helado de Coco. It is on the left, oh I know this is vague, but I still dream of that street. We stayed in Murcia in one of the newer townhouses on the beach. It was wonderful...(my grandfather was from Villa Joyosa up the coast a little in Alicante). I hope you are having a wonderful time. (In Murcia we had a Paella Negra which was interesting, but again I can't remember the name!) (Note to selg, bring a journal or PDA!)
  13. Bleu, You might laugh at this but from your list the only things I haven't bought there are the Brique, the pate fe feuillette in block form, and the canned cassoulet! I will look for all of these next week. Is the canned cassoulet good? I have had it in my hands a few times to purchase but I am leary of canned stuff even in France. On a toatally different note, do you understand Parisians when they speak? I find they speak too quickly for me so that I lose half of what they are saying. Does your ear ever atune to this? Thank you for all your advice, I am jealous of you living there. Raisa
  14. Bleu or Naf or anyone else for that matter, can you help with some terms? I have never understood the differance between creme fluide and creme frais. I know what creme fraiche is. On the recipe for Foie Gras Raviolis it asks for Pate a Raviolis, is this something I can buy at the hypermarche or do you make your own? I have to admit I stock up on the Pate Brisee and Pate Feuillette Pur Beurre at Auchan, its easy, taste great and much better than Pillsbury!
  15. I have been to the Carrefours near Roissy. They also wear rollerskates. I prefer carrefours to Auchan but it is harder to get to at times for me as the metro does not stop directly there. Even though we are now staying at the airport, I can never figure out which bus I can take to get to the Carrefours.
  16. DonRocks, Have you tried Wegmans cheese? I think it is pretty good. (see I am back on topic!) Also Salamanders in Middleburg yesterday had some nice cheeses at great prices! I guess the owner doesn't need the money?!
  17. I don't usually buy my wines from Auchan, I have a wine shop in the 17th which I go to. He usually buys his wines from small producers which you can't get in the states. I don't usually buy names you can buy here unless it is at the winery itself. Example, I went to Chateauneuf du Pape this summer and bought Mont Redon Red for about 17USD a bottle. Isaw it at Toatal for 4o something USD. But at Auchan I still find great deals at times. I bought a couple of cases of 2000 Grand Cru Classe Bordeaux recently for about 18 a bottle. I do not remember the name, Roi de something, but I have had a few bottles and they are great now, and should be better in a few years. As for Bush, you could just sign my name to your post, feel the same.
  18. Maybe you have had better luck with Ashby then I have, but I have found it to be lacking both for brunch and dinner. I have given a couple of chances for both and will probably never go back. A better choice for dinner in this area is Auberge Provencale. I think Ashby benefits from the fact there is not alot of competition out here. Alsop Four and Twenty Blackbirds is wonderful for both brunch and dinner.
  19. I am not even going to edit that for typos!!!!!!
  20. The Auchan grocery portion is MUCH larger. Their cheese section has a glass vtitrine where they have their TRUE artisan cheeses. About 30 geet long, then they have about two aisles with prepackaged cheeses, and they also have a section nect to the vitrine where they package what they consider cheeses that must be eaten immediately usually at less than half their normal price. These are still better than most I have gotten here. Yes I have been to the Wegmans Sterling. As soon as it stops raining I am going there a today. Auchan is whole lot better than Wegmans, but like you said, Weg is the best around here. Auchan for lunch? If you are planning just to buy cheese and wine and maybe foie gras sure, but I don't remember their prepared foods section very well. La Defense shopping center pretty much only has French Chain resto's at it.
  21. Notice I said I keep it inside the cooler, then inside the refrigerated compartment on the airplane. Though I have had a few times where it has started to ripen so furiously, that we all have a fun time (the flight attendants) accusing each other of flatulance! But damn it taste good (theEpoisse)! BTW the Auchan at the Defense is an awesome store. Wegmans does not even come close! Hooligan, I am new to this board, I had never heard of Nectar, (not a true foodie I guess) but I looked up your website, it sounds wonderful. How is your winelist? Corkage Fee? AND do you serve EPOISSE?
  22. Hi, I thought I might make a few of you just a little jealous. I fly to Paris every week with work at AA. I always bring a little cooler with me. Then I hit the fromageries! Sometimes I just go to Auchon or Monoprix (cheeses still sooo much better than anything here!). I bring back my favorites usually an Epoisse, chevre en robe, Brie de Mieux, roquefort for my hub. The cheeses stay fine on the flight over. I keep them in the cooler in the refrigerated compartments on the plane. One of the great perks of my job!
  23. Is the P'tit Paume a diniing guide Je le recherche dans l'internet c'est www.petitpaume.com
  24. Thank you Melkor. Now in your opinion, are my chances good of getting in if I call that first morning at opening time (res opening time)?
  25. I see myself making a phone call to TFL on May 1st. What was I thinking? After posting I have been reading up on all the reviews, it would be a sin not to attempt to go there, wouldn't it?
