  1. Don. Thanks for rhapsodizing. Just came home, had the Foie Gras with Peaches and Cherries and Balsamic Reduction? Delicious! Hub had the Octopus, I did not like it (don't care for tentacles). Followed with the Braised duck Ravioli with the Foie Gras Sauce, it was incredible! I enjoyed the Parmesean crisp cup that it came in. Hubby had the Duck Breast with Figs and Foie Gras, it was great, but he did ask for it medium rare and it came out barely pink, but it was still very good. For dessert I took yours and everyone elses recommendation on the Tomato Tart with Ricotta Basil Ice Cream and sauce, it was one of the top two or three desserts I have ever had. The other dessert ordered was the Fried figs with some sort of ice cream, it was good but did not compare to the tomato tart! Our server was adequate but the restaurant really needs to improve his people skills, (not with us but with the table next to ours). But the someiller Kathy was a delight. I prefer red wines no matter what, (usually) she recommended a Costello di Romitorio super Tuscan that was out of this world. All in all, our experience here was great and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone, especially the pasta!
  2. Paul, Thanks for your reply. I sent you a PM also. My budget is 30-40 euros for meal not inc wine. French/Belgian, small bistro. I am willing to go out of the touristy area to eat, just not to the bainlieus (assuming there some). thank you again
  3. Lucy, There are lots of fungi available now at the market, n'est-ce pas? The escargots sound delicious and go with what's fresh like you always do! Just be sure to serve him lots of wine! BTW can you take a picture and post it, I have wondered what Bux looks like! Do you have to be a forum host to dine with you Lucy?
  4. I will be in Brussels Monday. I have never been there so I will probably hit the touristy area. Can anyone suggest a resto there, where eating alone is not a problem, and isn't a tourist trap? Thanks in advance.
  5. This one may surprise a few people, Le Repaire de Cartouche! The service was non existant, the food was mediocre, the dining room was dingy! But the funniest part was they served us a corked bottle which I returned. A few minutes later some friends of the chef came and sat at the table next to us. Damn if I didn't see the bartender top off the bottle and serve it to the friends as compliments of the house! As they were drinking, everytime they took a sip they would say, does this taste right to you? to each other! They were already a bit drunk as they came in so they finished the bottle, asking that question each sip!
  6. I agree Laniloa, I was just making a general statement on my post.
  7. Please do not delete your posting!. It is exactly what this forum should be (at least in my mind). That is how I found this forum. I was searching for reviews on a restaurant and came upon Egullet France forum. I don't write about other restos or any for that matter as I cannot write as eloquently as some here. There are some wonderful little places I go to over and over again, (mostly because they are close though). Hama Sushi (Herndon), Rail Stop (Warrenton), Dolce Vita (fairfax), Paninos (Manassas) Evening Star (del Ray), but I have never really posted about any of them. Don Rocks I post on a few other forums more than DC but you are absolutely the best Forum Host I have run across on any of them, please keep posting your ramblings, they are wonderful!
  8. Mr Rocks, Your description of the Foie Gras Ravioli did it for me! I will be there Saturday night! I have always thought food was better than sex........nah.
  9. It certainly looks like it was fun. I wish I could have gone! Okay so when is the next outing? Someone volunteered to organize it last night , right?
  10. Well after 18 years of marriage and three kids, anything can be romantic al long as I am alone with the one I love!
  11. No, please do, honestly all I ever eat ther is the Foie Gras and a salad plus wine. But it is a neat place if you can get one of the tent like booths.
  12. How about Bistro Bis? And for ambiance and foods not bad Mie N YU? I am pretty Sure Bistro Du Coin was a joke. Nectars has a certain Je ne sais quoi and Jared could sing for you....
  13. I will, I can believe it is used as an enhancer, but not as the soup itself. Who knows? Personally my kids are the one who order it off their kids menu. Thanks for your reply.
  14. That is wonderful Mr. Talbott! I love Vin de Pays d'Orange! It was my first introduction to rhone style wines. Unfortunately this trend may not help me much as I always manage to finish off wines! Please write your report soon on Regalade!
  15. Come on now.....do you really think they use Lipton Onion Soup Mix? My son orders that soup whenever we go, and I can assure you they don't use instant!
  16. Paris is always beautiful. I used Patricia Wells book years ago, but I think some of it may be outdated. Also pleaseParis Restos on a budgetcheck out this website. He has a great list of restaurants. He also has a private personal list which he will e-mail you. I have tried 90% of them and they are all very good.
  17. I have tried O'Learys and enjoyed it very much. I especially appreciated their service. A group of six of us walked in w/o a reservation (not the same six Jared, we got rid of one set), we waited at the bar for a table to open up. We probably waited 30 minutes. No big deal, we were enjoying our drinks, but their Manager felt we waited to long and sent complimentary appetizers. This was completely not necessary but the gesture was very much appreciated! BTW thank you for your replies. I will certainly try Out of The Fire. Thanx for the tip. I am already planning a boat trip to Inn at Easton in October. Do they have a marina?
  18. I have been spending my weekends in Annapolis lately. Does anyone know what restaurants are worth visiting? Also whcih is better The Bistro at St. Michaels or SHerwoods Landing at Perry Cabin? Thanks for any and all advice!
  19. I have never been there and probably should try it, but the Washingtonian magazine was posed the same question last year. Their explanation was that the food quality was never consistant and therefore left off the recommended list. If I am wrong on this post please feel free to correct me. Edited for spelling, does your mind just automatically start disintegrating once you get old?
  20. I think 100 euros is resonable (liquor not included). If the continental breakfast is included with your hotel price, by all means enjoy it. Otherwise, it is much cheaper and usually better to go to the corner bakery and buy a couple of pain au chocolats and coffees than to eat at the hotel. Chez Paul a bakery chain in Paris has breakfast speacials for about 5 euros. Dinner at most bistros is about 29-39 prix fixe. John Talbott has an excellent list and browse thru these posts and you will be sure to find a few. Lucnh can be a deal if you do the Paris thing. Buy a couple of prepared sandwiches at a bakery and a bottle of wine and eat on a bench of the weather is good. Or crepes from a vendor will satisfy at about 3.5 euros for a jambon et fromage. My favorite was always Regalade but I haven't been in a while. Chez Michel is wonderl. L'Impatient in the 17th is good. For a great deal, try one of Wily Dorr's bistrots. They are Bistrot de deux Teatres, Chez ferdinand, the names of the rest elude me at the moment. There price is 31 euros for aperitif, wine meal and coffee! It is not avant garde, but it is good! Have fun and please walk alot so as to not gain wieght.

    Clef Du Vin

I just received an e-mail from Wine Enthusiast promoting something called the Clef Du Vin. They claim it helps age your wine! Some sort of metal alloy. Has anyone had experience with this thing? It seems interesting to say the least.

    L'Entredgeu
