  1. I've tried Mazur's before. To me they just offer the standard big bakery cake. Good but not great. Jason, thanks for the hint. May be a little too far but if no other suggestions I may just try that one out. Chefreit, where is Judickies? I can't seem to find a listing.
  2. Having a big party in November and the place I use to buy cakes from closed down. Any suggestions on the best place to have cakes made in North Jersey? Im particularly looking for around Nutley area and don't want to go too far out of the area. I'm talking fresh whipped cream. All fresh ingrediants. Top notch. Expense is no issue. The kind of cake that your guests have a second piece of and fight for it. Throw me out your recs! Thanks in advance.
  3. You're wrong, an Irish hotdog would be stewed in whiskey. Actually the "Italian hotdog" is a take on the traditional Italian-American sausage/pepper/onion/potato sang-wich. The only difference is the added ketchup or mustard on the hotdog.
  4. Glad you enjoyed it. An alltime favorite of mine for years.
  5. Dickie Dee's in Newark if Italian hot dogs qualify.
  6. Decor and service is nice and all but people will come, sit on park benches and eat with plastic utensils if and only if the food is phenomenal. No matter what kind it is.
  7. Tommy I think you are talking about J.J.'s near Branch Brook park on Bloomfield Ave.
  8. Iberia in Newark. Last week I saw a 5 pounder on display on their bar.
  9. Glad you had a great time at Dock's! IMO it is the best place in AC to eat, bar none. I love the atmosphere which isn't stuffy, I love the piano bar, I love the tall martinis. The oysters are so fresh and a great selection daily. I tops off with great service. Truly a gem.
  10. Tommy, by "simple" I meant not overdone.
  11. I go to Dish frequently. Mostly for the bar and martinis. Blue cheese olives. MMMMMMMM Food is good. Clams dishes and pasta dishes are very well prepared and not overdone. They are simple. Tuna carpaccio well presented and simple. The food and atmosphere are great for my tastes. Not overpriced in my opinion for what you get. I would recommend the place to a friend without hesitation. The new chef seems to be doing a good job. The guys that ran it before were not really "restaurant" people. They sold it to the chef. I think it was a good move. Nice place for a date.
  12. Raymond's Great breakfast! Brunch and dinner good too.
  13. Sigh...the best pastry shop in NJ closed last year. R.I.P. Ferrara's in Newark. Now a Domino's Pizza. GAAAAAAACK!
  14. It's not a restaurant but when Ferrara's Pastry Shop in Newark on Bloomfield Ave. closed my heart sunk. Callandra's is still there but they can't hold a candle to the homemade sfogliatele and cannoli from Ferrara's. R.I.P. Ferrara's of Newark (the original) Now a great Domino's pizzaria....whoopdee damn doo!!!!!!!!!
  15. The amount of salt that Spanish Tavern uses is unfathomable.
  16. Terazza's in Nutley has a few tables out in front.
  17. Wiener I live in Nutley and have been here over 30 years. If you get Ralph's pie ask for it thin and crispy. They'll make it for you. What they sell over the counter is "slice" pie which is thicker.
  18. I'll second, and third, and fourth the recommendation for Dock's Oyster House. The place is fantastic but a bit pricey. Entrees in the $20-30 range. WELL worth the price. I can't say enough good things about Dock's!
  19. Id have to say: La Isla (Cuban) they are getting really slow though lately La Tartuferia (Italian) Robongi (Japanese) Great sushi but not intended for people who don't like larger size slices of sashimi/sushi
  20. I didn't really look at the wine list. I just ordered the house chianti. It is definitely a full service bar though.
  21. Went to this place last week in Ironbound Newark. 134 Clifford Street. My girlfriend who is Portugeuse kept telling me how good this Italian eatery in Ironbound was. I always blew her off since I am an Italian-American who grew up with fantastic home cooked meals and she thinks the Olive Garden is edible. First thing I noticed was the place was packed with Italian/Americans. Good sign. Well let me tell you the food was fantastic. We started off with Hearts of Artichoke Oregenata sauteed in olive oil/garlic/lemon juice. Next split a very nice and light TriColor sald with Parmaggiano Reggiano. For entree I had Penne with Ricotta cheese in a marinara sauce covered with pancetta. Fantastic! She had Broccoli Rabe and Rigatoni with shrimp and garlic sauce. Espressos were good and desserts were ok but not made in house. The chocolate souffle was good but not great. All in all a great experience. I think they have a singer/band there on certain nights. Parking is no problem with a lot right across the street. Will definitely go back!

    Nori

That pink sauce is probably the mayonnaise based sauce.
  23. Great place. I go there at least once a month with my girlfriend. I have to bring a six pack of beer because this is the only drink that does a good BBQ justice. YUMMMMMMMMM!
  24. Mario it's a pleasure. I was curious as to which region in Italy is your favorite for food overall? I understand that this may be a tough question and that all regions have their own unique tastes and foods. However I am sure there is a place that seems to call you when you land on Italian soil. I am planning atrip next year and would like to incorporate not only sightseeing but "sighteating." I am very excited since this will be my first trip to Italy. PS- My experience at Babbo was nothing but spectacular. How the heck do you get your octopus to be so tender?
  25. Thanks for the tip. I will make a stop this week. I LOVE new pickles and can rpobably eat a dozen in a row without batting an eye.
