Our music is spectacular again this year. Blues legends-Hubert Sumlin, Jay Geils, Magic Dick, James Montgomery, 19 year old phenom-Luke Mulholland and Levon Helm Band Keyboardist-Brian Mitchell, lead a world class line-up on the Levitt Main Stage.
We have lots of activities for the kids...plenty of stuff to eat, drink, buy and see...so please help spread the word to family, friends and co-workers to come visit us in Westport on the 26th and 27th.
Wesport's Blue, Views & Barbecue Festival.
HOST'S NOTE: This is an member-organized event and not an official eGullet Society event. Click here for the terms under which this event is listed in eG Forums. CA

Great stuff, johnnyd. Thanks.

I guess what's "right" and what's "wrong" is all in what you're used to.
And what's "good" and what's "bad" is all a matter of personal taste.
We all get to do it however we like. And that makes for a pretty grand ol' world, I think.
Bingo. That's what I have gleaned over my years of visiting Ecuador, another big ceviche country. Tomato or even catsup in the sierras. None on the coast. There are no hard and fast rules, other than the requisite citrus, even if the seafood is first cooked with heat.

If need be, I think I could survive very well on rice, beans, Tabasco sauce and jug wine.

Thank you, Maggie.

On the weekend of October 24th to the 26th the Sayville Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Battle of the BBQ Brethren as part of their annual Sayville Fall Festival.
This KCBS sanctioned event is a NY State Championship.
Come down and enjoy live bands, demonstrations, lectures, great food from our BBQ vendors and the heat of competition.
The cook-off will include Chili on Friday after set-up, Grilling and Kids Q on Saturday and BBQ on Sunday.
The Sayville Chamber of Commerce will be aided in the BBQ aspects of their Fall Festival by members of the BBQ Brethren.
The Brethren will be dedicating two of their on-site locations to Breast Cancer Help, Inc., a Long Island charity dedicated to eradicating the scourge of breast cancer.

As are lots of rums. Trying to think about cocktails here, as per the request.
Which reminds me that you could bring one bottle that has your liquors premeasured. (Not citrus, of course; don't want that oxidizing.) Manhattans, Negronis, Martinis... sky's the limit.
mmmmm..... Warm Martinis out of a bottle.

Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 is great for sipping on its own. No ice needed. It will also mix well.

I search for Schott Zwiesel Tritan on eBay.

Thanks for the heads-up, Gary. Good read. I'll be sure to try Zazu.

..... I've got Rego Park on my list this time.

You can try Ben's Deli. I always have a pastrami sandwich. It's not quite Katz's, but it's so good.
On the wall, they have old photos of the area, including one of the large Howard Johnson's restaurant that was on Queens Blvd. I believe Jacques Pepin put in some time in that HJ kitchen. Pierre Franey might have also.

I have hard-cooked a dozen eggs in a Black & Decker food steamer, according to their directions. It couldn't have been easier, but I think that their suggestion of 30 minutes was too long.

If he likes Jack Daniel's, get him a different brand of Tennessee whiskey. George Dickel No:12 is quite respectable.

Not sure what to do with the growing pile of leather sacks that is accumulating in a dusty shelf above the sink...
I keep fishing reels in mine.

Be prepared to do the work.

Thanks, Doc. As always, great reporting.

Rock candy on a string.
Little sugar dots on a strip of paper.
Small wax "bottles" filled with syrup.

Ronzoni's Healthy Harvest, with its "whole wheat blend," is one of the best of the bunch, IMHO.

I have wondered if the coating could be removed, the surface polished and the pan used as a regualar pan.

Wow, Holly. Thanks.
