  1. OK, I just don't get it, what is wrong with ordering a Bloody Mary during the day on a weekend?

    Dinner! 2004

Nullo, I loves ya, I applaud your dietary goals, but this dinner...frightens me. That said, I ate a salad and some cold london broil. Bring on the soy nut butter! Lol. Well, today was a full day of inservice setting up my classroom, district meetings, then band camp parent exhibition night, so, I was pretty darn tired, and after reading the liverwurst and peanut butter sandwhich threads, convergence lights popped into my head combined with what was on hand... Actually, it was pretty tasty, even if it does sound a bit odd ;).

    Steamer cooking

Interesting. It is my understanding though that any flavorings in the liquid won't make it into the food though, as it is just steam evaporating off and causing the cooking, so, would steaming with chicken stock or an herby water be any different from regular water?
  5. While Romanos is a chain, it is a pretty darn good chain. I'd easily rank it above OG, and the food I have had there is superior to the majority of mom and pop Italian places i the area.
  6. Circa 1922 has great food and a great bar. The Chophouse (might have another name first) has great prices on aged Scotch, and a good menu as well. There is a sofa bar around the corner and upstairs from Circa that supposedly has awesome food from what everyone kept telling me, but I didn't get a chance to eat there.

    Steamer cooking

Hmmm, whenever I think steamed, I think absolute lack of any kind of flavor. Maybe I have just never had good steamed food, but images of broccoli and skinless chicken with a side of cottage cheese 'diet plates' keep popping into my head. Do all rice cookers steam? Maybe I could pick something up to play with.

    Liverwurst

I tried the liverwurst with fried egg thing the other day for breakfast, wow, what a match made in heaven. Of course, that day after having Carne Frita for lunch from a local Puerto Rican place I decided that my arteries just wouldn't be able to handle dinner and had to call it a night lol.
  9. This blog has been enlightening. The only Malaysian I have ever had was a spicey squid dish at a restaurant in London a couple years back. The sauce and vegetables were very flavorful and great, but the squid was so rubbery I could barely chew it. What you have been cooking looks much better.
  10. Wow, this sounds like it will be really cool. Best of luck ChefG.
  11. Oh wow, I had no idea how to make this stuff. I know my dad used to always make it for sunday breakfasts along with the rest of the spread (biscuits, ham steaks, fried eggs, grits, sausage gravy, bacon, and sometimes cinnamon rolls. Can you say heart attack on a plate? It was so wonderful though...) It sounds so simple, I will have to make it myself now.
  12. hmmm, I liked the McRib. I don't see how McDonalds could fail at this if they set their mind to it, they are a big enough corporation with enough supply channels and etc that they can make anything work if they want. Howevever, for $4, unless it is stellar, I would pass. For that price I can get a real deli sandwhich from a real deli.
  13. How does everyone around here feel about Liverwurst? I was having a serious hankering today so I picked some up from the grocery, slathered a flax/pumpernickle roll with some mayo and strong mustard, a thick slice of onion, and several slices of the wonderful meat, and enjoyed one of the nicest lunches I have had in a while. So creamy, so flavorful, with a subtle spice underneath, how do you all prepare it?
  14. Bourbon. Bourbon is wonderful is almost any kind of cooking, but a bourbon cheesecake with a slightly salt nut crust is divine.
  15. Oh, I almost forgot: Eating a kebab of some variety outdoors in Leicester Square in London, after seeing the final performance of Rent before it packed up to move on to somewhere else.... that was simply wonderful as well.
  16. My sophomore year in college I scraped together all of what little money I had to visit a girl I was completely in love with at the time who was going to college in Providence. We bummed around the town a bit and decided spur of the moment to hop on a greyhound bus to Boston. Without any kind of plan we wandered around Boston, experiencing things randomly as directed by the (very talkative) taxi drivers and by nightfall ended up in front of a nice seafood place (whose name escapes me, but hey, my mind wasn't on where we were eating). We wandered in, woefully underdressed, but for some reason were still treated very well by the staff. We dined upon what the waiter described as 'the Rolls-Royce of fish' (which later turned out to be Dover Sole, much to the chagrine of my empty bank account, three cheers for Amex at this point) but it was still worth it. The atmosphere, being hundreds of miles from home without a plan, any idea what was going to happen next, and the perfect company and view of the Boston skyline lit up at night all just combined for a stellar end to a crazy day and the beginning of a perfect evening.
  17. Heh. my bad late night cravings always seem to be for really pungent food... thank goodness there is a diner nearby which can satiate my needs for liver and onions or a greek salad loaded with anchovies.
  18. The old WW plan (before points) allowed me to do this easily. I find I can still do it on the points plan, by "saving" some points for the weekend or a night out. Then I just don't worry about it. One night off plan will not make you a failure. It's a little bit about mindset too. If you do set aside a night, then you aren't of the mind set that you have to "deny" yourself anything. With WW how often can you go off plan before it negatively effects you? Once a week? Once a month?
  19. Wow, I must be too young to understand her impact. I never realized supermarkets ever stored tomatoes chilled, nor that they didn't always carry a variety of fresh mushrooms or produce... I will have to do some research into her work.
  20. Just a question out of curiosity here, no ill-will intended: Why is it that you exclude the Atkins cooking, is it because of personal beliefs against the plan, or because you don't feel comfortable enough with the rules and etc to do meals via it justice?
  21. I just made the most wonderful sandwich: Flax seed pumpernickle roll Soy Nut Butter Mayo Mustard Thich slice of onion lightly sauteed in butter Fried egg Oh my, it was simply orgasmic. I'm sure the several gin and tonics I've had had nothing to do with it ;).

    Tuna Salad

I like to chop up pickled hananeros in tuna salad, also a lot of good strong onion, and a little vinegar for tang.
  23. Forgive me if I am wrong, but aren't certain species of whale in plentiful supply? I didn't think the situation was such that all whales are endangered.
  24. Wow, Jinmyo, I've never thought about cheddar or garlic with peanut butter, but that sounds delicious. My current standbye: Flax seed roll Chunky Soy Nut Butter Light sprinkle of salt, cayenne, and splenda (it is really far better than it sounds) sometimes I add a bit of tahini too
  25. Hmm, not really international, but availible in only select areas of the US: Pork fat back cracklins. Far tastier than pork rinds, and with far more cruch. I grab up multiple bags every time I pass through VA or the Southeast, which I could get them here...
