Interesting - my mom used to put peanuts in Coke when she was growing up, too...but she grew up in Tanzania. I never knew it was a Southern thing.

Jubilee chocolates...any and all flavors! -
I love the guava paste with sharp cheddar cheese - I guess it's the same kind of sweet/salty/tangy/creamy combo. Yum!

Looks like 11, from his website: Starr Restaurants

I love the smell of wine, though I don't like the taste as much.

As a college student I don't usually eat out, but I did make it to Black Sheep Bistro a couple weeks ago (for the second time; the first was last spring). The food was excellent, as I had remebered from last year. I had a lobster ravioli appetizer both times, and it's incredible! If I remember correctly, all appetizers are $5 and all entrees are $16. I thought it was a really good value, considering that the portions are pretty big (especially the entrees) and the quality of the food. Each table also gets a side of garlic mashed potatoes and a cone of French Fries with various dipping sauces. The waitstaff couldn't have been nicer, either. I definitely recommend reservations well ahead of time. Hard to say how far it is from Brandon; it's about 15 minutes from Middlebury, so probably around 45 minutes from Brandon to Vergennes?

Incidently, I had called Django this afternoon to ask about making reservations there, and the person who answered the phone suggested calling 2-3 weeks ahead for a weeknight resrevation and 3-4 weeks ahead for a weekend.

Don't know if you're only interested in Jello-brand pudding pops, but Blue Bunny also makes pudding pops: Blue Bunny pudding pops I think they're really good, but I can't remember the Jello pudding pops well enough to compare. They used to sell them in my school cafeteria, but besides that, it seems that they're hard to find...

Rachel, what kind of yoghurt did you mix with the lime Jello? Plain? Vanilla?

My sister is graduating from college in a couple weeks, and I'm thinking about taking her out to dinner as a nice graduation present. I wanted to find out what restaurants in Philadelphia consistently use local and/or organic products. I know about the White Dog Cafe (which my sister and I both really like), but I think we might like to try something different for this occasion. (Theoretically we could just make a meal out of Jubilee chocolates - that wouldn't be so bad...) Any suggestions? I have no idea how many options there are, but something low-key - not too fancy or expensive - would be preferable. Thanks for your help!

What else can it be used for? Just curious...

I thought the original remix tasted like Skittles...in a bad way. Maybe it was just me?

Local hardware stores can also be a good source for cheap basic stuff, and they sometimes have random sizes or shapes that you might not find elsewhere.

Is Main Line Jewel of India the one near Subway, Manhattan Bagels, etc.? If so, I think it recently closed...I could be mistaken though.

My (Indian) aunt in London makes patra, though she uses some kind of special leaf instead of spinach and rolls it into logs, then slices it into spirals. It's delicious. I've never seen it or had it here in the U.S. though.

Any opinion on those little bowl-shaped chips - "scoops", I think they're called? Not sure of the brand. I don't think the flavor is that great, but I have to admit, they're great for getting a good amount of salsa at one go.

How about The Cosby Show? Cliff and his hoagies, his special spaghetti sauce, all the junk food he tries to sneak, when he takes Rudy and a group of her six-year old friends to a fancy restaurant for lunch and they all demand hamburgers and fries....

One of my favorites: a kind of chunky, mango-avocado salsa. Cubed avocado, ripe mango, tomato and red onion, mixed with lime juice, salt, cilantro and sometimes jalapeno. While staying in the Chilean countryside, I often had fresh buttered rolls with mashed avocado and sliced smoked turkey for breakfast, which is undoubtedly the best breakfast I've ever had. The avocadoes in Chile (called paltas) were different from what I've often had here in the US - not as oily-tasting. They were really creamy and fresh though. Yum.

I called on Saturday evening to make a reservation for Monday - when we were there (6:30 on Monday), there were a couple of other tables but it wasn't full. It's a pretty small place though, and when I had called them on Saturday it sounded really noisy and busy (which makes sense). Hope that helps, and I hope you make it over there soon!

I had an excellent dinner last week at the Black Sheep Bistro in Vergennes (probably about half an hour from Burlington). All appetizers are $5 and all entrees are $15. My sister and I shared an appetizer of lobster ravioli, which was incredible - creamy and sweet but not too rich. I could have made a main course out of that alone! One of the best things I've ever had in a restaurant. There was a little salad of watercress with the ravioli, which had a delicious dressing. For a main course, I had mustard-seed crusted steak in a mushroom wine sauce, which came with a frisee salad with roasted (I think they were roasted) tomatoes. My sister has some kind of glazed salmon (balsamic, maybe?) with an avocado-tomatillo salsa. Both dishes were great, and very large portions. Each table also gets a (free) dish of garlic mashed potatoes and a cone of french fries with basil mayo, garlic mayo and ketchup. The fries were a little underdone for our taste, but the mayos were tasty and the mashed potatoes were wonderful. We couldn't even finish the mashed or fries since the entree portions were so big and so delicious. We were also too full for dessert, so I can't comment on that. However, the service was really friendly, the restaurant was cozy but not too tight, and the food was delivered quickly. Overall, I really enjoyed eating at Black Sheep Bistro, and it was one of the best meals I've had in a while. I haven't eaten out much in Burlington so I can't compare it to anything, but I definitely think it's worth the drive.

I am a college student from the area currently at school in Vermont. I recently checked out eGullet (I can't remember now where I heard about it...) and have been following the PA forum. When this thread came up I was inspired to register and start posting - RTM is probably my favorite place in the city. Anyway, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Termini Bros. so far (at least I don't think anyone has). I can't compare their RTM location to the South Philly one since I have only been to the RTM spot, but regardless, those cannolis are good! I prefer choc. chip or vanilla - the chocolate filling doesn't really taste chocolatey to me.
