  1. So I'm still getting use to my convection oven, if I make a souffle in it should I use the convection feature or just put it on normal bake?? I had a weird thing happen to puff pastry when I had it set on convection......

    In Chicago you should be able to find the cheese and quince at a higher end food store, most good markets here in seattle carry them.

  4. We have been eating this yummy soup for lunches but I also wondered about freezing cooked cannellinis or great northerns? would they get mushy and fall apart?

  6. I love Higgins, the menu read so ordinary yet when our dishes arrived they were simple but full of flavor!! Expertly done! Sometimes less is more as they say!
  7. why do people soak beans?? they are fools!! these beans were ready to go in 1 hour (store bins were empty of cannelini so I used great northern). I am never soaking again. THANK YOU!!

  9. nope, no pressure cooker but I think I'll try just cooking them! We aren't in a rush, it's friday night and I think this just means longer cocktail hour! Thanks all!
  10. I was planning on making a white bean soup for dinner tonight but forgot to soak the beans overnight and now I'm at work all day. Can I use canned Canellini's or should I just plan something else for dinner?
  11. I also vote Zoe, great food and service everytime I've gone. Monday is indeed 1/2 price wine night if you are in town too. Campagne would be my second choice, and I haven't been to Nishino yet but plan to this time!

  13. Had dinner at carumba with the group- it was ok but I wouldn't choose to go back. Very CucinaCucina like for those from Seattle. Both sushi restos were closed the only day we had to sneak away for lunch- Monday

Or you could walk straight down Pike to the Pike Place Market and go to Campagne, Cafe Campagne, Chez Shea, Maxmillion in the Market, Place Pigall, and others...... it's nice to get near the market if you can. Another option 2 blocks away north (??) is the Oceanaire, not my favorite but I know other people like it

  17. yep, everyone just reheated them at the host house. Others brought side salads and of course desserts. It was a great way to try a bunch of different styles!
  18. some eG friends got together last weekend and had a mac and cheese party to compare some recipes! the best oven ever green chile mac and cheese chili mac blue cheese mac and cheese from a local chef's recipe my version of Martha Stewart's white mac and cheese Guy Savoy's 24 hour mac and gruyere cheese Patti Labelle's recipe for mac and cheese Patti LaBelle and Martha Stewart were voted the favorite's at this party but these all were sooooo good and it was a really fun event!
  19. my husband is allergic to peanuts so I will gorge on pb on toast and pad thai with a side of peanut sauce!! also he hates corned beef and cabbage so depending on the season that will usually get made too. trashy food items include nachos, microwave popcorn and penne noodles with EVOO and lots of parm.
  20. We have the same waffle maker only ours does the mini round waffles. We LOVE the waffle tone and when it goes off we both sing 'WAFFLE TONE!!', it's funny. Looks like an interesting blog Malawry.............

  22. thanks, I'm thinking that with no ressies the sushi may not be such a good choice for 7 people. Is Carumba pretty good? Would it be ok to take a kid here?
  23. those look beautiful Lucy. I have really learned about using a heavy hand with seasoning when making these cold terrines, or anything being served cold really.
