  1. chufi that dinner looks awesome! I love those zuchini cakes- will be stealing that!

forest- now I'm going to have to make that soup!! It looks sooooo awesome!

percyn you are the king of steak! do you like the strip or the ribeye better?

we were very lucky to be part of seasonal cook together dinner party last night of about 20. Our contributions were the appetizer and the soup

I made ricotta and spread it on crostini topped with watercress, radish and pepper

Dayne made a beautiful soup- base of potato leek from Bouchon and blended sorrel in at the last minute. garnished with sorrel chiffonade, creme fraiche, evoo and pepper

sorry for the blurry picture, it was gorgeous soup though!!!

  2. if you do try the homemade ricottaesque cheese dont throw out the whey, it makes a delicious loaf of bread, just sub they whey for water (or half and half)

and, in a nice circle of life moment the bread is very good with the cheese and a little honeycomb spread on it

so.. you can tell what we were doing yesterday then!

I don't make bread so I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do with the whey?? maybe just feed it to my cats?

  3. Nice looking duck confit!  i bought duck on the way home last night, too, but kind of wish I had let it marinate overnight, instead of just a few hours.  Will try and post a pic later after I upload.

I made this confit  I put it up back in early december and this is the first time we've raided the crock! It was quite good- usually I can't wait and we eat it just after a month, the flavor and texture were much nicer with the extra aging

  4. Welcome, shoutsandmurmurs, that dinner looks really great.

Wendy, I've been enviously eyeing your cocktails for months, thinking just HOW FAR my sweetie and I have fallen from that lifestyle since having kids.  So tonight hubbie broke out his new martini shaker and made us some raspberry martinis.  I even managed to drain my whole glass, a small miracle these days.   Just to show how life has changed, though, I left the background in place - note the crayolas, coloring pages, buzz lightyear cocktail napkin and little guy eating his appetizer of avocado with fleur de sel.

Then dinner, finally we were both home at a decent hour and ready to eat this moussaka that I had made earlier in the week.  It was wonderful.

yeah!!!! great job getting that cocktail in, it is such a nice way to start an evening isn't it??

  5. ...

For Don, a blueberry creation (made with my favorite - Bonne Maman jam) that the bartenders have been playing with.

    ...

This is actually a cocktail that Johnder has been working on. He had brought in the jam earlier last night to get feed back form the bartenders and try it with the Los Amates Mescals.

Go John! Sorry, I thought they'd been developing it for John...it has inspired me, I want to work on it too...though I may have to add cinnamon, since I love love love cinnamon with blueberry.

right on!! thanks so much Megan! but now I need more commentary on D&Co please. did you like the place? who was bartending when you were there? what didn't you like about it?? what is the vibe?

  6. Hi girlie!  As you'll see, I just sent you a message about this....but I'll post it here so everyone can have the benefit of your input & wisdom!   I always think it might be tough (i haven't tried cooking it).  By tough I mean "not tender" but could be difficult as well.  How'd you cook it and how was it?

By the way, for a "first time" it looks like you've got it down great!

I did the skate out of Bourdains Les Halles cook book- it was to be Skate Grenobloise but we had no bread so it was sans croute (is that the right word?)

  7. When Dayne and I were in London in September we went to 2 fabulous bars owned by Nidal Ramini who is quite a nice fellow!

    Montgomery Place in Notting Hill

    and Dusk by Battersea park

if you are walking around shopping and see a cosmetic store called Pout go in and try their limp plumping gloss! it is awesome and the best I have found

We did the London Eye too which we LOVED!! booked in advance online and did a champagne flight which was very fun.

    Have an amazing trip!!!

  8. Forest, welcome to picture posting...it does become an addiction, since I am still trying to find the perfect lighting, set up etc.  I actually found quite a bit of hints on this site, under the digital camera thread....like using a piece of paper towel or toilet paper (not used,  :raz: ) over the flash to filter the light out a bit...makes a world of difference.

I would love some hints say,  from the top of my head,  Klary or Little Ms. Foodie on how they stage their meals, since they are always awesome looking pictures and cool looking angles.

Glenn, that tempura looked awesome....I hope to have pics soon of our dinner tonight, that is if my BF ever wakes up from a nap to start helping me make it.  We're having dungeness crabs with clarified butter and hasselback potatoes.

    Happy Valentines Day everyone!

ok, I am totally flattered but we don't stage! we stick the plate on the counter, turn the overhead light up all the way and turn off the flash. thank you for your kind words.

This thread moves so ridiculously fast!

First, a few pics to catch up:

From the Jose Andres Tapas cookbook which we got for christmas, Keith made fried potatoes with chorizo, topped with a fried egg:

  9. All right, just posted a topic about my trip to London - post away!!!

oh we know some very good nice cocktail bars in London! and this place that makes an amazing lip gloss- I know, I know but it is fab!! I'll get over to your other post soon!

Happy valentine's day!! Dayne and I served mini bottles of regular POP at our wedding! it was fun to see everyone sipping out of straws and we buy them whenever we are going to travel to the beach or something now

your dinner looks so good- i really wish we could have gone there when we were in town!

and that is the tiniest! cognac I have ever seen

  10. great looking pies! i love those individual pie pans!!

I had fried chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner last night as well, with some kale on the side. Mine didn't look anywhere near as good as yours, though. Do you use buttermilk? I was VERY disappointed in my fried chicken and I think I need to try again soon.

no buttermilk- just coated with flour/cornmeal/s&p and fried in the cast iron. 6 mins covered, 6 uncovered, 3 & 3 (flipped each time)

  11. 4 of had a very nice dinner there in December- my third time, husbands second and our friend's first.

I'll try to remember what all we had but I will say that we were all very pleased with our meals- outstanding quality of dishes, service and wine suggestions.

lambs tongue vinaigrette; goose liver ravioli, pork chops, guinie hen

    and an amaro tasting after!

we still find Babbo to be wonderful for both food and atmosphere but we only get there when we travel to NYC so it's more of a special stop for us.

  12. We tried the new Homestyle Hong Kong Restaurant.  Good chinese clay pot rice in Seattle at last.

The I.D.has taken a good turn with the additions of Green Leaf, then our first ramen house - Samurai, and now a clay pot rice shop.  if only someone would make a decent xiao long bao.

    location please??

i have to say that my current addiction is the house special fried rice at Green Village- cash only.
