We have a Kenmore Elite stainless drop in range and the bottom is a 3 tep warming drawer. At first I wasn't sure what to do withit besides plates but now I find it very valuable as I throw a lot of parties and I can keep my cooked hors d'oeuvres warm until I'm readyto pass them. Need??? hmmm.... I think there are very few things we all need!
I'm not suggesting the Kenmore Elite line however of the maintence folks at Sears..........................

Thank you, DG, for the garlic fried rice info.

We have a Korean women's spa here and there is a room with charcoal walls that is suppose to be purifying to your system to sit in and breathe! It's just like those pictures at your market!

how often do you make up the garlic fried rice? do you make it fresh each morning or are you making a few days worth at a time. Care to walk someone who isn't so good at fried rice through it???
Also since you have been having awesome lunches for the blog what would you generally eat for lunch? at home or out?

yum!!! percyn that looks right up my ally! I don't even think I can get hanger/onglet here- did you just ask your butcher for the cut or what????
Wendy: I've bought hanger/onglet from both Whole Foods and Don & Joe's. They don't always have it, but I try to grab it when I see it. It's really tasty!

The Onglet with McDonald's fries on the left tossed in garlic salt and on the right tossed in a nori based sushi rice topping - it sounds odd, but tastes great.

visited Pho Bac today for the first time and thought it was very good. I've ever only had Pho once before (can you believe it?) but the flavor was very nice and you could tell everything was quite fresh. We also had the Banh xeo which was really crispy and tasty!

tonight in a fitful craving of baked gratins but still without a working oven I cobbled together the Les Halles gratin dauphinoise- i simmered it all stovetop and then finished it under the broiler, pork chops with mustard sour cream sauce and a nice green salad. chardonnay in the glass- no cocktails tonight - too many at last nights party

marleen the brioche looks awesome!
we hosted a cocktail party last night for about 30 - no pictures but passed hors d'oeuvres were:
wild mushroom crostini
deviled quail eggs
cervelle des canuts
gougres
proscuitto wrapped prawns
herbed and spiced goat cheese balls
duck confit salad tartlettes
mini lamb meatballs with yogurt dill sauce

judith that looks awesome!! pousine in our grocery is outrageously expensive so I never buy it but yours almost has me over there!!! and the roasted pears sound great!
-
I'm making some duck confit salad today and have 2 jars of legs that I put up in Dec. The first jar I grabbed had a quarter size spot of greenish mold up on the top edge. I've never had this happen before! so what to do? should I just scrap this off or toss the whole jar of legs and fat? Luckily for today I have another jar that looks great.

Fantastic ideas. Thanks everyone! Can't wait to present to the youngun tomorrow! I think I'd like all of these parties!I think the antipasta idea is great. I have also done a little mexican party before with grilled carne asada and halibut and let everyone make their own tacos, rice, beans, ceviche , etc on the side. you could even do virgin margaritas and get some mexican sodas which are inexpensive.
Am I the only dork in the world who can't see the phrase 'carne asada' anymore without thinking of the lion trying to get the other lion to pronounce it properly in that commercial ?
I don't know that one! ok, let's just called it grilled flank steak than!

I've never been in it, always too busy with the soaking pools and the body scrub. Btw Domestic Goddess are Korean spa's still a normal part of life there? Ours has a restaurant so you just spend the whole day there and have lunch whenever you want (in your robe and barefeet!)
