Sourdough toast, Irish Breakfast tea, and two butter scotties. ( oatmeal cookies with wh. choc chips and butterscotch chips) . I defatted the chicken stock, stuck another whole chix in it, and that's simmering away, then made a batch of lemon drop cookies, then did the garland on the stairs and doorways in the house, made some new pathetic looking red bows that I hope will become less noticeable once I add some other stuff to the garland..all before 10 am. hmm, after cataloguing what I've accomplished, I think I mihgt need to grab a few more cookies to reward myself!

Sam, I really like your observation about crowd dynamics. This is what Wegman's is like on A sunday afternoon...and while it will still continue to be frustrating to me, at least I can attribute it to " crowd behavior disorder! " I'll be going throught the store, cart-locked at an aisle intersection, thinking :" CBD! CBD!"

the Perlow's trip to NOLA reminded me of some spectacular boudain that we filled our cooler with...I've had it shipped from the same place, but it wasn't quite the same. You're right, Ellen, it is simply better if it was personally looked after and delivered.

Molly, 4 month old Maine Coon, quite a little tomboy, totally charming. What a peaceful day...baked the "chip" cookies today..chocolate with no nuts, milk chocolate with nuts, and buttercotch/white chocolate. Tomorrow will be the cookie press ones...these all freeze well, so I can keep them stashed until its time to compose the cookie platters for friends and family. We're drinking Cassanove di Neri, Pietradonice 2001. Was planning to make a leg of lamb, but I froze it becauseI wanted to wrap it in Pancetta, didn't have any...husband took our learning permitted son out on the roads to get a feel for snow...came back with a 3-rib prime rib

The Winemaker's dinner have a fairly regular crowd..I've seen a lot of the same faces over the years. We've booked for 6ppl, whcih always makes it a lot of fun. Lots of couples celebrate the Holidays with an event like this, i/o gifts for each other.

I just came back from Wegman's, bought a 1/2 leg of lamb, a bunch of produce that caught my eye, and some short ribs. So I'll be set for the weekend...I have all the ingredients to start baking, whcih was my plan anyway... Plus, hubby's wine order for the Holidays just arrived, 9 cases of wine in the laundry room! So we're all set for the weekend..Let it snow!

I've attended a number of wine tasting/pairings at Rat's, and awhile I always enjoy the evening immensely, I sometimes feel tha tht emenu and wines don't always match as well as I would like them to. This one, http://www.ratsrestaurant.org/events.htm in a few weeks, seems very intriguing to me..there are a number of combinations that I'm looking forward to. Comments?

I'm a Neanderthal..I keep binders with recipes in plastic page savers. I make any notes about hte recipe directly on the page, with a Sharpie. I also add when we had it: "CB leaving for Italy tomorrow, Dillon at play practice, just Bob and I , had with Basmati and spinach" for example..not necessarily major major events..but I love reading the notes that are even two or three years old..little snapshots of life. I also got the idea from egullet to add a page to the "beef" binder, say, that has references to recipes in cookbooks I own, with page number and brief description.

OK, Jan 25 it is. For those coming so far: which time is preferred? 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, 7pm. I'll post an RSVP list once we settle on a time, and Jason will work with the owners to select the menu. But no one will come if you don't get the soup dumplings, I think.

Is Jan 25 the Superbowl?
-
When is Chinese New Year? I will be happy to keep track of who is coming, RSVP's, etc. Someone else needs to pick the menu , and work w/ the restaurant.

thanks..great start..not having much luck for Italy only maps...further help appreciated!!

Does anyone have any suggestions of places that specialize in posters with wine themes, perhaps maps of Italy's wine regions, or posters from specific vineyards? While in Sonoma and Napa, we bought quite a few and they framed up great..would likke to add to the collection this Holiday.

Panico's gets diverse reviews..either a love it/hate it kinda place. It's very clubby and business oriented. The regular menu is traditional Italian, both Southern and Norhtern. They do great veal, fish and pastas. ( Pastas perhaps a bit heavy on the cream) I think their specials are usually more inspired. I've never had a terrible meal there, and I usually think its "good plus", and the service is better than most places. I eat there perhaps 6 times a year. Nice wine list, too.

I meant to say that weatherone is fine dining or diner dining, the tea service is always sub par compared to the coffee service. I was at breakfast at Blue Fin over the weekend, in the W hotel in NYC. The diners who ordered coffee got a carafe of brew, to keep warm and refill as needed. I got a cup with a tea bag next to it, and never an offer for more hot water, let alone another bag. I was at a lovely lunch spot in prestigious Bay Head, the coffee was elegantly served, in small private pots. I got...a cup of hot water. With a teabag...albiet a Harney and Sons Earl grey, but still the same relative second class status.

I guess you're thinking this will be like an early exit poll?
-
Can we safely assume you mean Tuesday, or are you all eating Burgers on Thursday, which is T-day??!!

I'm pretty sure that the reviews are evenly scattered. I think Mr. Concoran mentioned that he and Karla alternate weeks, or at least try to. I think, in my experience, that distance and travel time are so skewered in North Jersey due to the traffic congestion...it takes an hour to get to the end of the block, right? Hehe, just joking! Besides, we have the parking lot otherwise known as Route 1. So while a reviewed place might only be 20 miles as the crow flies, its an unacceptable distance for a weekday dinner.

I was suprised at the amount of column inches they devoted to this..and on a Sunday, no less! I've never tried soups at any of the restaurants specified, but some of them did sound winter-worthy! I was at Panico's last week and had a wonderful Tuscan Bean Soup, with escarole.
