  1. I was thinking that the owner most likely could care less who he does business with as long as they pay. I could see a manager using this practice because he might be the one to personally deal with the people he is racist towards. But like i said, i would be interested to see if the manager is still working there? Because that would provide more information as to wether the owner condoned this type of behavior.
  2. I dont know if you should keep a grudge against a restaurant for something the manager has done. If he is still kept on, then you can blame the owner.
  3. Not that it sounded like it needed it, but was a dessert served.
  4. Has anyone order the beef and turnip casserol. Its one of the few dishes i havent gotten there. Beef with lotus blossum seeds wins out every time.
  5. I went to bouchon four times while in vegas. I have to first say that the place was gorgeous. It was in the venetian, had beautiful high cielings and marble everywhere. I also have to say that i am happy that i have heard peoples poor reviews before going. I had prepared myself for a dissapointment, and what i got was extremely good food. Except the beef bornigoune. I was extremey dissappointed with this dish. It was rather tasteless. But the beer list was great, the wine list too. The cheese plates, the pate, the soups, the fish, the lamb sandwich all fantastic!
  6. I am a fan of valentino as well, but i wanted to show a customer that i remembered that they enjoyed seafood restaurants. At first site, aquaknox looks very hip, almost clubby. The restaurant is very opened to the lobby of the venetian. It is very dark, and is lit with blue neon lights. I was thinking that the customers would think it was too dark or having trouble seeing the menu, but it is actually brighter then it appears to be while looking into the space. The menu is almost all seafood, however i was assured that the obligatory cuts of beef and chicken dish were excellent(by the waiter) For an appetiser i split the stone claws and shrimp cocktail with someone. I also had a few oysters which were high quality. All though they had only two choices. Kumimoto and another pacific northwest oyster. I guess understandable for vegas. For main course three people got the scallops at the table and i had a table side deboned durade. It was excellent. It was the best prepared fish i have had in a long time. And i have been eating a lot of fish lately. For dessert we ordered a white and milk chocolate fondue. It came with cheese cake, rasberry, strawberry's, pound cake, and a few other dessert items. It was excellent. A downside would be that the restaurant is very expensive. But it was perfect for the occasion. Anyone looking for great seafood I would highly reccomend.
  7. The only thing that i have noticed is the government coming into a private business and controlling its right to run itself. I have notcied that people are forgetting this country is run on free enterprise and if people are against something the drop of sales would force a business to change. I am just fearfull for the day when bloomberg tells a place like Brick Lane Curry House to make there phaal more mild because the sauce might be dangerous for a chef to handle. Or that some customers dont like indian food so they are going to have to start serving cheeseburgers instead. hehe
  8. Hey thanks alot. I actually just got the menu faxed over before i had the chance to see your post. The place is pretty expensive which unfortunately translates over to this customer as quality.. I spoke to the girl answering the phone and she informed me that the Canyon Star is no longer there and that they are in its place. I will try to scan the menu on to the board.
  9. It seems that most posters here are describing a place that no longer exists.. I work in a pretty rough part of town over here.. Right in the old singer building. But when i drive around and look at places like that amazing church, or the pretty park across the street from it, or I can even imagine how cute elizabeth avenue must have looked years ago, i wonder at what point in time things started to change.
  10. I am trying to look into the new fish restaurant that opened in the venetian. Can someone tell me the influences this place has. The prices and the atmosphere. I am taking a customer here and will be trying to impress.. Thanks.
  11. I have been to nobu in vegas, ny, and london.. I can say that for me the experiences rank in the previous order. I love the laid back atmosphere that you get in vegas.. NY is just way too much of a bother and the food is exactly the same as in Vegas.. And as for london, i just think the food sucked.
  12. I just tried to go to Spiritos today. It looks good, but unfortunately it opens at 5pm on weekdays, and 3 pm on weekends.

Have you found out the name of that cheese that tasted like epoisse.
  14. Elmora Avenue remains a highly interesting food street, both for Goodman's and other Jewish spots and for Hispanic. I'll respectfully disagree a bit with dbrociner about Goodman's, at least as it was when I last visited about a year ago. For many years the restaurant (open only for breakfast and lunch, closed Sunday) was owned and operated two brothers Julie and (I believe) Abe Goodman. When they retired about 20-25 years ago they sold it to a Greek and trained him and his people very well. I find that nothing has changed, not the corned beef, not the pastrami, nothing! They still buy their meat from the same supplier, they cook it the same way, and take it out of the same steam cabinets to slice when you order it. Even their menu system which is supplemented by paper plates attached to the side wall with items and prices hasn't changed (other than the prices, of course). Goodman's is not kosher, but two other eateries are. Last time I checked, the Dunkin Donuts at Elmora & Grand was was certified kosher. A block down Elmora from Goodman's is Jerusalem, which serves kosher pizza and Israeli style salads, hummus, etc., cafeteria style. On the other side of Elmora Avenue from Goodman's is Elmora Bagels. The store has been there since the 1960s, I think, and is operated by the same family that ran the late, great Watson's Bagels of Newark and, later, Irvington. They also operate a kosher bakery at Millburn Mall off Vauxhall Road in Union, the same strip mall that's home to Syd's Hot Dogs, the hot dog of my youth at its original location on Chancellor Avenue in Newark, and a hot dogthat remains my favorite. The Millburn Mall is also within an easy drive of Ikea, no more than 15 minutes if there are no traffic jams. (Elmora Avenue is more like a 10 minute trip, tops. Do make the trip to Elmora Avenue, and also to Spirito's (but I don't think they're open for lunch; just dinner). Another good spot for Italian, both sandwiches, pizza and plates, would be Cioffi's on Stuyvesant Avenue in Union Center; again, not as close to you as Elmora Avenue, but only 15 minutes away. They make a pretty good Italian style hot dog, too. In warm weather, after eating at Spirito's, you'll want some Italian ice (what they call water ice here in Philadelphia) to fill in the cracks in your stomach. About a block away, on Fourth Avenue (Spirito's is on Third) is a tiny shack with two or three flavors of ice for sale (lemon is the preferred variety). It's better than any water ice I've ever had in South Phila. (But I may be biasted; like Syd's hot dogs, it's a food from my childhood.) For take-home Italian delicacies, try Barone's on Third Avenue. If after work you're in the mood for beef, and lots of it, there's the 640 Club at 640 South Street in Elizabeth: steaks, roast beef, chops. Years ago, when doctors still smoked and ate red meat, this is where they'd have lunch, because it was smack dab between the city's three hospitals. Enjoy! Nice post. You certainly know your elizabeth.
  15. Those were nice pics. I liked the Tsing Tao in the corner of the dan dan noodles. I wish they were opened for breakfast today.
  16. I question whether or not the bad reviews are coming back because people are expecting this to be a restaurant that equals the french laundry. Perhaps when i go with low expectations i will be pleasantly surprised.
  17. I am going to vegas on thursday and i am booking reservations now. I was just made aware that kellers bouchon is in the hotel i am staying in. Has anyone been here yet? Can people email other places to go for dinner.. Thanks DANIEL
  18. Sorry i am posting here but i figured because its kellers restaurant it wouldnt be too big of an offense. I am going to vegas on thursday and i am booking reservations now. I was just made aware that kellers bouchon is in the hotel i am staying in. Has anyone been here yet?
  19. By the way i really liked your definition of diner. That was very observant.
  20. I looked up diner in several dictionaries. And basically what they are saying is that a diner is a restaurant that resembles a dining car on a train. So that is what the original diner comes from. Other definitions have said its any restaurant with a long counter. I dont think there is a clear definition of a diner at this point. Its pretty much left up to the interpretation of the owner.
  21. Yeh the bank is now a Fleet bank.. I really love that place. Thanks for all the input guys. El Palmar is a really good place. I went there rather often about three years ago, great daily specials and great cuban sandwiches. I am really interested in trying The deli, El Salvadorano, Spiritos and a Soul food restaurant if anyone knows one. I have been to Manolos for dinner and found it really good, the only problem is i would have to nap after eating a meal of that porportion. I also have been told that they film the sopranos in there, when they film scenes that take place in the restaurant. So besides soul food i have another question.. Has anyone been into the live animal market on elizabeth avenue. I drive by and see a huge building that says live animals on the outside. Then there are pictures of pretty much every animal big and small on the outside of the building. Pretty interesting.
  22. Pampano I ate at Pampano Taqueria a while ago. It was good, not great. I just read you review in the previous posting. I was hoping that you would have reported on one of the fish tacos. It seems like the review in the post was really pushing the quality of the fish there. Which makes sense because of pampano's focus on seafood in the higher end restaurant. Did you get a feel for any of the seafood there?
  23. It appears that white is to New Jersey burger jernts like Rays is to NYC pizza places
  24. Like i said, many questions arise from this debate. hehe
