    Eating in Kansai

It seems my next trip will touch on Osaka ! I've never been to this wonderful city - I'll be a lonely gaijin on my own for four evenings - Suggestions ?
  6. About right -One end of the night market is around Jordan; a block-and-a-half off Nathan Rd.
  7. It is tiny and gets awefully busy. Lobster Rolls are very good. If you do not mind sitting on the counter, then it becomes tad easier. Go late and many things run out; go early and have waiting partons glare down on ya
  8. Quite uneven in the last two times we were there
  9. There was no Gujarat as a state - You knew that (Or am I pegging my old-age) State of Bombay was split into two - Gujarat and Maharastra in the 60s. They settled in the port city of surat.
  10. Not water, milk; not salt but sugar.
  11. Kushi (sp ?) However, in NYC, I enjoy katsudon @ an equivalent of a red-lantern place called Sapporo.
  12. Budget cuts ? Total allocation exceeded ? Higher TCE ?
  13. I'd go to Zaika, pre-select a series of dishes a day or two before; and have it served banquest style. With 16-18 people it would be worth it - The restaurant will give a special attention to the b'day. Easiest still; invite Simon and let him get the arrangements done
  14. While there are indeed many regional differences, white rice;steamed kale;orange (or some citrus fruit) and fried manioc flour are staple. The choice of meats and types of meat are pretty much regionally varied.
  15. I think Palm did a copycat to Morton's which started their 2-4-1 in 2000 in Chicago; and then promoted it all over US the next year. Palm never managed to get the hard-core Park Ave white-shoe lawyers as regulars
  16. A healthy singles scene on the bar side - eye candy for both genders abound Oh! you'll wanted to know about their food - Read the older thread on this topic. Admin: the current active thread for discussion of Marseille under Chef Andy D'Amico may be found here.
  17. This just in - The two places I tend to hang out at - The bartenders have seen a significant drop both in tips and sales. It is still too early to tell.
  18. I think there something more subtle and complex going on. Afterall all parsis list Gujarati as their mother-tounge. Note that Bohris also speak Gujarati while their food is definitely non-vegetarian. I have to give this some more thought.

  20. It's a 30 day reprive or a warning period as I gather - By that time places with Sidewalk Cafe license will have options for their patrons.

9 out of 10 of my relatives in India, who happen to be vegetarians would tune out a review which only mentioned non-vegetarian preparation -- However, OTH; Many desis understand that any of these reviews are targeted to a meat-eating audience. As I have posted in the Indian sub-section about vegetarian dishes that one is unlikey to find in most restaurants here , which are very popular in many households. I'm sure Simon dada, can list off aother half-a-dozen more khoti-dishes that complex and delicious are rarely available in restaurants.
  24. Ouch !!!! an Excellent soup in Hyatt Grand; HKG was x6 times this year ('03) -- So do they add one comb ? Am I getting cheated if we order for two ? orDo I get two combs ? Could you shed some light ?
