The closest I have been to a Hooter restaurant was walking on Dam, in AMS in mid-late 90s. It shut down obviously after a few years , given its proximity to Old Church area. The Manhattan joint I gather was/is in Chapter-11. I speculate that Hootera are popular in regions of US, where moral-majority rules the waves , hence Hooters becomes like Bud-Lite

Ghia is one of the few vegetables I disliked since childhood -

Sounds like the Turkish Kumpir found by the mosque in Ortakoy (sp?) There are these baked potato stalls lined up in a cobbled side street .......yummy

Julians is fine for a neighborhood restaurant. It has a nice garden and the food is light (mediterrianian) and not too expensive. I have been going there off and on since its a few blocks from my neighorhood.

There are quite a few good places to eat - One, indonesian that I know of is "garuda" (sp?) and a restaurant by the name of "it rains fishes " Since The Hague is a very govenmental town, lots of expensive but mediocre restaurants abound to feed diplomats and their entourage.

Are we talking restaurants and food-outlets here ? or lounges too ? Worst is easy Any hinterland airport in the Midwest USA - All they have is a vending-machine, maybe !!!! Among the upper-end, HKG,ICN,SIN are up there in Asia - NCE,BCN in Europe ??? It has been a while since I made an mental update on food, I've started using the lounges more often just to get a moment of peace and quiet. One is more likey to find more pubs/bars, even though alcohol is known to add to jet-lag and fatigue related to air travel

Bermuda II my dear For Andy to get to EWR, It would have to be LGW No LHR for him -- UA,AA,BA,VS are allowed to fly JFK-LHR plus two other carriers are allowed fifth freedom rights; AI being one of them - For more on this ongoing snafu check this and hangout in FF groups or ask here --maybe someone might chime in

It seems that the joisey folks have hijacked this 'lets-have-a-pint-or two' for tomorrow. Andy: It's like going outside the M25 onto A3 or A12 --- You might as well have posted in the Joisey Section ---

Gosthtaba is from Kashmir. Since Goa was quite isolated much of its cuisine too was confined to its own region. Try getting feni, even now, outside Goa

Brazilian & korean are the probably weak in London, hence an opportunity for joisey

As long as it is after hours Thursday,Friday are good for drinks and food ? Where is Andy staying ? Druids on (50th) 10th Ave. is not-a-dive has a courtyard in the back, and some drafts. For mohitos I'd go to Cafe Frida by the AMNH, or Fusion (54th & 10th). Or how about a Cigar-bars (If such beasts are in existence, a single-malt would not be a bad idea ?)

Rain started off great - But as they say in a relay-race - someone dropped the baton - "They bowed down to UWS LCD" Great starts in UWS tend to sputter into {toungue-in-cheek} limp-lame-ducks.

Reminds me of Amos Tyersky and Dan Kahneman's classic - Judgement under uncertainity: heuristics and biases ? Actually a lot of probabilistic judgements are made under simplistic notions of outcomes [sorry to inject academe ] The four person table's occupancy patterns are being evaluated for positive outcome in a probabilistic environment Actually their whole body of work is a fun read - recommend it to all

Really !! I was in Antwerp last month - Would've loved to have tried a kosker Indian restaurant (vege.) there - Here in NYC, there is a kosher restaurant run by Gujurati family called Dimple, which I have come to like, because it serves things not found in many Indian restaurants in the city. Maybe you should add some good restaurants in Mumbai in the restaurant list pinned on top of this sub-forum

Vikram: Very good overview of West and South - I agree that the discussion here tends to be North India centric. As you correctly point out, many of the breads are very difficult to find in restaurants here in the US, one does find reference made to them at homes of folks from South and West here in US.

Any change has to begin wih your Community Board - All the reasons you give are valid in any neighborhood. Sidewalk cafes do not work in all conditions - i.e the width of the sidewald in relationship to the street and the height of the surrounding structures. High Volume vehicular traffic generally inhibit or hamper a successful outdoor cafe culture. Not every Ave or Street is bound to have the same degree of acceptibility. I think it general it is good to allow, and then debate the specifics (i.e duke it out) in the community board hearings.
