  1. What jerks. Why don't they just die so you can have your samovar. Talk about inconsiderate, self-centered people. You deserved better parents.
  2. I was in England a few years ago and the Brit I was with had never heard of popovers and thought what we would call popovers were Yorkshire puddings. I grew up with popovers (love them!) and it was only about 5 years ago that Mom and I got brave and made Yorkshire pudding. I want both...........NOW!

    lamb patties

Hi, This is one thing that I am an expert on. I make 1/2 lb patties, salt and pepper liberally and grill. I use a little less heat than with beef, closer to medium/medium rare. If you like lamb you will love these. No condiments or sauces or buns. I have never understood why people want to use so many spices and sauces with lamb......it doesn't need it. Enjoy the taste by itself. Cakes
  4. I think the truly disgusting people here are the ones that observe how other people eat and then make fun of them. Who cares what someone does with their tongue when they eat? Get a life!

    Summer beer

Strawberries, cherries, and an angel's kiss in spring. My summer beer is really made from all these things. Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the cheer, And I will give to you, summer beer. Ohh-oh-oh, summer beer.
  6. I couldn't figure out what you people were talking about until I went to the web site and saw the pictures. Can't say I have ever even seen one. At first I thought you were talking about the big mouths, as in Schmidt. They were a good idea, I think but they were not refillable. Had a friend who drank them cause they were cheap. Cakes
  7. There was a resteraunt we stumbled across in Hollywood, FL. El Burro (the ass). We had a great meal. It was Cuban food and cooked by Columbians. Very nice time, I doubt that it still exists. Cakes
  8. Fascinating. We took over a house in 1976 that had a mixer tap in the kitchen. It was an excellent sink and so we kept it and rebuilt the kitchen around it. Without extensive research, we would be surprised to learn that it was unique. Our company has an operation in England. I had heard the talk about separate taps as opposed to mixers. The hotel I stayed in in Coventry was quite new and appeared to have a mixer tap in the bathroom. When I was shaving in the morning, I had the hot and cold both on to give me the desired temperature. I realized that the left side of the stream was hot and the right was cold. I bent over to look and was amused to see that the tap was not mixed at all and had 2 separate paths. I think the adversion to or absence of mixed taps in England has to do with the fact that the hot water side is not pressurized in many of the houses. The hot water tank resides in the attic and is gravity fed. Cakes
  9. Cliche: Sea salt! Give me a break, talk about a great job of marketing. It's almost as much of a cliche as bottled water! Cakes
  10. All you have to do is cook the piss out of them. Cakes
  11. I think Sakai blew it with the shark fin...........not PC. Good battle, I thought. Cakes
  12. Cakes... see above So Nessa doesn't need to be ashamed of herself. Read the rest of the messages. It is, in my mind, a little like telling a joke starting by saying " I know is is racist, but"
  13. I think you people are a bunch of snobs. How dare you make fun of people that may have never even heard the CORRECT pronunciation. How dare these low lifes go out in public if they can't speak French! You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Cakes
  14. Everclear is nothing more than strong vodka. I believe it is 180 proof so it is about twice as strong as normal vodka. If you are making a recipe using vodka it might be cheaper. Don't know, never checked.
  15. Force is force whether it comes from a spring or a weight. The force opposes an area and defines the pressure setting of the relief valve. A low leakage relief valve will use less liquid but whether a weight or relief determines the pressure setting has nothing to do with it. Cakes

    A Bucket of Steamers

I have to disagree. They are fried clams, they just don't have the bellies. You would not say that roast pork is not roast pork because it does not include the whole pig including the guts would you? All I remember seeing on menus are fried clam strips and fried clams w/bellies but I would not claim false advertisement if they called both fried clams. Cakes
  17. Pan, Eating hot food makes me sweat also but so does hot weather or exertion. If one's body deems it necessary, you sweat. Chiles don't cool you. As for the masking of smelly meat.....people that grew up eating vegatables that were fertilized with human excrement have no problems. You or I would get seriously sick. Just because we can't eat it does not make it "bad" for everyone. In Norway all you have to do to keep your meat or fish is to throw it out the door. Norwegians aren't know for spicy foods. Even in my lifetime, I can look back and think of foods that were considered unsafe to eat after 24 hours, that now are considered practically indestructible...milk, for example. Ever heard of Pasturization? Cakes
  18. Interesting you should say that, Cusina. I also enjoy hot food in the winter because it counteracts repiratory congestion. But in the summertime, hot food makes you sweat and cools you off, which is why I think it's generally true (with some really notable exceptions like Korea) that the hotter the climate is, the hotter the food is. Pan, I think the idea that eating hot food makes you sweat and cools one off in the summer is an old wives tale. I think the reason spicy or peppery food is polular in hot climates is to cover up meat that is going or has gone bad. Cakes
  19. Hummis ahould be good. It is chickpeas, tahine (sesame paste), olive oil, and garlic. All pureed. I describe it as garlic peanut butter but with out the trans fats. If you are interested I can post my recipe. There are a zillion but people seem to like mine. Cakes
  20. Hi, We had this happen with luggage one time. It was out on a truck to be delivered and the driver could not be contacted. I told the person that there were 4 of us and we were very unhappy, we had been drinking and we were only 4 minutes from the airport. Suddenly they were able to contact the driver!! Cakes
