I'm just checking to make sure every knows that it is the 23rd. Apparently that wasn't very clear If that doesn't work let me know and we'll find another date

Grew up going to the Safeway on Capitol Hill (the UnSafeway) and in Waterside Mall for everyday things and the Social Safeway in upper Georgetown for my mom's "special foods". Even as a kid you could see a difference in the types of cookies. As for the Soviet Safeway, I went when I was in middle school with a friend who lived nearby. I know it was somewhere around Adams Morgan/Mt. PLeasant area, but I just don't remember where. But this was the '80's and the Soviets were the bad guys so we new it was bad.

That's why there's the Social Safeway, the Soviet Safeway and the UnSafeway

'Cause Glover Park is bigger, brighter and less crowded than Tenleytown. And there's a Jamba Juice. And there aren't AU students in their pajamas walking around.

Not I, that's for sure. Although I used to be a lot more thorough than I am these days. Me neither. My degrees of how strictly I follow are very situational. Three years ago I had just moved into a new apartment and followed pretty strictly. The past few years I was away on spring break and was more lenient.

Same here on the sushi, risotto and not being hungry when I am done cooking Frankly, cooking for one for a few days? Get take out of your favorite places and couple of nights, and make everything your boyfriend hates but you love.

The name is stupid. How many people go "east of the river" to dine. Frankly, it sounds like it is trying to be a more modern, hip Tryst. Might be worth a trip on a Sunday afternoon, but who wants to surf the Internet while dining? Cell phones are bad enough

On behalf of Soba and those of us who clueless, what is Chametz and Kityanot?
-
We got that at my seder too. Except it was my sister complaining and the comment was made by a family friend to the two of us Soba, nothing tastes good on matzah, especially when everyone around you is eating hot dogs, pizza, beer etc or you're the only kid in the lunchroom with a matzah sandwhich. Turtleboy, I went with a calzone myself

I spent a year working in the children's department of a huge chain bookstore. Kinkead wrote a religous book that was filled with his "paintings". We used to fight with the religion/philosophy dept. to keep the damn thing in their section. My Own Personal Hell: Time of Year: Begining of May Food: pb&j on wonder, warm tunafish with sweet relish on white Drink: warm milk and apple juice Companions: head teacher from my first year of teaching, current head teacher , my 3rd grade teacher and the current head Bush. Background Music: There is none. Otherwise the teachers wouldn't be able to hear themselves talk Edited 'cause I figured out what would make it worse: my three favorite students are at the other table, enjoying oysters on the half shell, beluga and mallow cups for dessert.

It's cold and rainy again and will be for the next three days. But I just made my first bowl of olive oil with garlic, red pepper flakes and a ton of parmesean (breaking in my new plane grater)

Welcome Turtleboy Since your are now a poster and no longer a lurker we'd love to have you Busboy, if you could check out the banquet menu that would be great. I tried to go Staruday night but couldn't find parking. Depending on how many of us there are, I was hoping we could get one or two of those big round tables they have downstairs.

It's all over the outlet malls that surround the MD/DE shorline As for homemade, I rim the glass with Old Bay (seafood seasoning), and throw some into the mix. I have done a Bloody Sake using wasabi and soy sauce that was great. I like to use Trader Joe's tomato-vegetable juice. It makes V8 look like skim milk. I also serve them with black olives, the combo goes very wel.

This is so great. I wonder how it tastes? Here is the website.

Pick me up on your way down please I have to admitt that thanks to a short spring break I am behind on my reading, but just scrolling threw the pics has made my mouth water. I can only imagine what it will be like when I can actually sit a read the whole thing. mmmmmm, food porn -
The suggestion of trying to arrange a pre set menu has been thrown out. Thoughts? I personally would prefer to order when we get there.

Darn; that's a job that I probably will never have. I think johnnyd wins hands down for having had the most interesting job of anyone who has ever posted on egullet! He's my new hero Deatils. We want details. Start a thread

We could make a killing if we stood outside, sold "change for a $20" and didn't specify what the change was

Don't know if it's what you are looking for, but Coyote Ugly just opened a few blocks from Zatinya. No bull though.
-
Welcome to my hell I second or third or whatever the Jaleo and Zatinya recommendations. Parkway Deli and Krupins are good, but avoid brunch hours unless you want a wait. Tono Sushi has $1 a piece happy hours. Old Ebbit does a good deal on oysters from 3-7 M-Th. Let me know if you need someone to join you. (Thank you Mr. Rocks)

A few years ago the Bethesda branch added an ice cream parlor under the name of Balducci's. They also began to carry more ready to go food ala Fresh Fields. They still carry sandwhiches, and make a great Italian sub, for the middle of Bethesda. BTW Jason, I assume you went to the SP on Mass. It closed a few years ago and I think now is a bagel place. Every just goes across the street to Wagshall's now.
