And then there's always the obvious that you'd think would never need to be said....EAT YOUR OWN FOOD AND NOBODY ELSE'S. Gotta at least attempt to prevent thievery!

Looking at your breakfast photo, I see that there is a carton of yogurt. Is it pourable, like milk? I've never seen yogurt in that kind of a container, I've only seen milk that way. Can you buy smaller yogurt containers as well as flavors? And...that baby puppy was so cute! Are dogs allowed in restaurants there? My dog is so jealous... -
I agree with Julia, if cheesecake is included as cake, then it's cake for me. Although, really, between cake and pie as we know it, I find cake too sweet and pie, sometimes, not sweet enough. But, cake. Yeah. Cake. Especially cake from Karen the Cake Lady.

Happy Birthday, Klary! I'm enjoying reading about your life in the Netherlands. I have some questions... The outdoor market you went to...is that open year round? What is winter like in Amsterdam? What kinds of temperatures are you seeing now? Do stroopwafels come in any other flavors? Could you get a chocolate one, for instance? Is Amsterdam a bike friendly city? As the cost of gas rises here, I'm definitely interested in alternative modes of transportation! Blog on! -
Oh my. I want one. This would sure beat the gladware container I normally use, which evitably gets turned upside down in my bag, leading to all of my food to congregate on one side! Luckily, nothing has ever leaked.

My siblings and I took our parents to dinner for their anniversary at Ocean Grill located on Martin Luther King Blvd on Saturday night. The food was EXCELLENT. We had the bruschetta which had sun dried tomatoes and (I think) fresh mozarella cheese, as well as the shrimp enchiladas. Two people had the pork tenderloin, 2 had grouper, one had chicken and the lone vegaquarian (me!) had the ravioli. I will say tha everyone else's food looked much better than mine. I will also say that I think the ravioli dish was only there as a concession to those who don't eat meat...I was disappointed that ravioli dish was supposed to consist of four different raviolis all seemed to be the same, covered in tomato sauce. The best part of my meal was the salad - fresh greens, vidalia onion, chevre cheese and blueberry vinaigrette. Despite the fact that my dinner was not as good as it could have been, everything else was excellent, and I am looking forward to when I return...and I will return someday!

I am so ready! Capitol Square, here I come!

Disclosure: I rarely eat ice cream. Not that I don't like it, I just don't keep it around the house. With that said, my favorite HD flavor is the chocolate chocolate chip mint. I think the last time I ate it was sometime in the 1990s. I'm glad to hear it can still be found in the scoop shops...next time I'm near one, I may need to check it out!

Count me as another Cinnamon Toast Crunch fan! Lucky for me I go through the craving for this in cycles...once I buy a box, I become addicted and it takes a while to get me off of it. Luckily, sticker shock of the price tag keeps this in check...I generally only buy it if I can get it on sale 2 for 5 bucks. I also like Kashi Go Lean. I eat it with a carton of Yoplait yogurt, dump it in and mix it up. If I eat to slow it gets soggy, but it takes a pretty long time. My favorite summertime breakfast is Cheerios, fresh blueberries and vanilla yogurt. Oh so good I cannot wait for blueberries to be available. Growing up, we ate any cereal we wanted. I recall eating cereals such as Smurf Berries, Cabbage Patch Kids, Peanut Butter Crunch, Lucky Charms, and Trix. it still pains me to this day the way they've ruined Trix by changing the shapes from the round balls to the fruit shapes. Somewhere along the line that changed the taste and it will never ever be the same to me...

I am sad to say that I have never tried Pocky before. However, I shall be able to remedy that after a trip to the Wal-Mart Supercenter, the only place for miles around that carries it, from what I've seen. They have two flavors, the regular chocolate, and I'm not sure of the other one. Does anybody know if they have ever made a chocolate mint or a mint flavor? That's my all time favorite combination. Thank you to everyone for your testing and picture posting! eGullet is opening up a whole new world for me!

Thanks for blogging, Marsha! I love the South. I would love to visit Kentucky some day. Or move there. If I can find a job Didn't you say you were moving, too? How's that going? -
Mmm, buttered noodles! My mom will swear that I lived on those for a few years, it was all she could get me to eat! She didn't feel too bad about it though, since she lived on the same thing when she was in nursing school. Alas, it's a treat that I don't think either one of us really eat anymore. I ate those too! My favorites were the lemon and the chocolate pudding. In fact, I recall a time in my late teens when I was eating one lemon pie A DAY. Sometimes I do get the craving for them, but a quick glance at the nutritional facts cures me of that. I think I'm going to indulge next time I find them, just because it's been so long... In thinking back on my childhood, my mom was very liberal. Nothing was taboo in our house, and we quite the junkfood cupboard and candy drawer that was the envy of all of our friends. I say it's to her credit, because neither me nor my brother are junk food addicts today. At least, I'm not. I can't really speak for my brother...I think he eats more than I do, but I don't think he eats so much that it's detrimental to his health or anything like that.

My favorites run to the normal: Reese Sticks, Butterfinger, Whatchamacallit, Milkway Midnight (but only the bite size ones). I also liked the dark chocolate kit kat. As for kit kat, until I did a google search, I had NO IDEA there were so many flavors! The following is the list I developed, and I would love to have a complete one (yeah, my life is so sad, I need to compile lists of candy flavors!) Berry Banana Orange Pinapple Apple Peanut Butter Lime Christmas Pudding Green tea Mint Dark Chocolate White Chocolate Strawberry Vanilla Caramel Triple Chocolate Lemon Cheesecake Passionfruit Caffe Latte And I read somewhere they were considering cranberry. It just boggles my mind.... I really want to try the new dark chocolate m&ms as well as the dark chocolate twix and the triple chocolate kit kat. I'll have to start paying more attention in the candy aisles!

Fresh out of the oven bread - any kind Blueberry muffins Cinnamon rolls I also like flavored butter...honey butter and cinnamon butter are my favorites. Mashed potatoes Banana bread I, too, would like to know what cultured butter is!

crusts from bread give you curly hair ← I love my crusts, and I'm STILL waiting for this to happen... Most of the other superstitions here were pretty new to me, and interesting! The only one I hold myself to is that I don't read my fortune until I've eaten the cookie.

Let me add my thanks as well!

But you can also make some wonderful things that are low calorie and taste the way YOU want them to taste. I make a fantastic tomato gelato which is a wonderful palate cleanser after a bunch of rich "starters" ... Now you have a lot of choices that are really inexpensive. I did have a couple of the kind that had a container that had to go into the freezer, however I finally bit the bullet and bought one that has coolant in it and all you have to do is turn in on to chill, then pour the mixture into the freezing chamber and turn it on. In 20 minutes it is done. I have been using Splenda and have had some excellent results. I have to dig out the ice cream cookbooks I used and try something different. Really? How much do these lovely machines cost? And it's done in 20 minutes? I must know more!

Adele, it would so dangerous for me if I lived near you....but we'd have fun, so it would all be worth it! The only thing that scares me about buying an ice cream maker is that I'd eat MORE ice cream...being single, that is NOT a good thing!

Cabinet with my other spices, oils and baking paraphanlia.

It's good to see you and so many other familiar "faces" on this thread! Your pecan tart looks fabulous, as does your ice cream. Like I told you earlier, you make me want an ice-cream maker (I think I'll be able to hold off for awhile, though) I look forward to seeing how this project grows and evolves...in the end, it will make you a better baker, I know it!

Baked beans. Being force-fed by a nun in Catholic School, throwing them up, and then still being forced to eat them has turned me off to them FOREVER... I like other beans just about any other way. Just not baked.

Well, since you're so kind enough to ask... Some salt and vinegar potato chips interspersed with cantaloupe chunks. Do I win for wierdest combo?

I humby beg the forgiveness of the state of Nebraska. I went grocery shopping this afternoon, and lo and behold.... They had Brownie Batter ice cream!!!! I just had my first spoonfuls (it's now safely back in the freezer) and I have to say Oh. My. God. That's all.
-
I have looked everywhere for that flavor, but I guess the cool flavors don't want to come to rural Nebraska, my exile for the next year or so (really, it's not bad, no offense to anyone from here!) My favorite flavor is Chubby Hubby. I also liked the Entangled Mints from a few years ago. I was looking at the graveyard...why, oh why are so many of the flavors in the dearly departed some combo of mint and chocolate????
