We're stupid stupid people for not going there earlier. First off, Jon's directions are off, it is 3.3 miles after Teterboro Airport, just after the Welcome to Garfield sign (which is after both Lodi and Saddle Brook). We got a bucket of 16 pieces to go, eating 1 already made drumstick while we waited for our pan of chicken to finish, and one of the freshly made wings in the parking lot. Both were really good, but there is a noticeable difference in the chicken waiting under the heat lamps, which was a little drier, but still tasty. We also shared a breast when we got home, having left the take out container lid ajar so that the chicken wouldn't steam. It was still hot and the breast meat was nice and juicy. I like fried chicken cold, so the rest is cooling off and getting put in the fridge. I wonder how it would hold up frozen? We may go back during the week to stock the chest freezer. They are closing up shop on Thursday or Friday, "what, when you run out of chicken?" I asked. Jamal (Sandy's son) laughed and nodded. ~~~ Actually, that was the Star Ledger, circa November 2001.

TDG: Eating at the Best Restaurant in the World
Rachel Perlow replied to a topic in Louisiana: Dining
OK, here's an indelicate, but necessary inquiry: What's the facilities situation? -
Welcome schmooty! I'm glad we were able to steer you to Finks.

Well you didn't think they really spend $9000 on 5000 business cards, did you?

Nabeyaki udon tempura grilled fish Beef negamaki tonkatsu Horenso gomai (no more, now that we make it at home all the time, thanks Kris!) That deep fried tofu with peanut sauce sounds like satay to me. A Malaysian restaurant we like has tofu satay on the menu, but I don't think I've seen it at any Japanese restaurants.

I wouldn't put in a can of coke or anything common like that, but if you have access to a regional specialty like Cheerwine, I think it would be fine to include in the bag -- all hotels have ice machines afterall, so even if there's no min-bar to chill it in, you could pour it into a glass of ice or chill it in the ice bucket. I just think it's a great idea to include some local products.

Well, Jason's post pretty much summed it up. It was very good, better than average, when most of what we've had lately has been below average. But it's not Nobu or Sushi Samba or one of the highest end sushi places in NYC either. They have a website with their menu, click here.

Confirming that we aren't able to attend. Have fun.

Corrections: 1) We were at the Livingston location of Gary's Wine (off Rt 10), not Madison. 2) That location is not a Gary's Wine anymore, it is now called Wine Legend, but it doesn't look like they changed much about the store. Phone: (973) 992-4441 (Here's a link to Gary's website). 3) The Japanese restaurant is Zen Japanese Cuisine, it was one of the best sushi experiences we've had recently. (Address: 277 Eisenhower Pkwy, Livingston, NJ 07039, Phone: (973) 533-6828)

I suppose orange soda is the only appropriate drink with that kind of matzo ball?

I like having the veggies in it. Especially ones that have been cooked specifically for serving, not for flavoring the soup. Funniest comment as Jason was eating his Jewish Penicillin? "Hey, these carrots taste like carrots!"

Very cool. I hate those little stickers. However, I cannot imagine that the contrasting layer of pigment on a lemon would be red???

We've frequently gone on weeknights and usually find a similar situation.

I always thought it was spearmint, but when I grew my own, I found that peppermint is closer to what I can get in my local markets. Surprisingly, it is milder than spearmint. Spearmint has pointier leaves than peppermint, which I believe is how it was named.

Fruit. I think every bag should include 2 pieces of fruit, an apple and a navel orange in the winter, a peach and a plum in the summer, for example. Not everyone wants to snack on candy and pastries between meals. How about some other healthy snacks like homemade granola or trail mix? Put your baking skills towards breakfast bars, muffins, cakes like a date nut cake, something someone would be happy to have as a quick breakfast. They are visiting your community from other parts of the country? Then you should include regional specialty items. Here's a link to the North Carolina Dept of Agriculture Specialty Foods Catalog, you might get some inspiration there. The only thing I can think of for NC right now is barbecue, hard to put that in a hospitality bag. I think sample sized toiletries, like Purell and wetnaps are some non-food items that would be appreciated in a hospitality bag. As you are doing this for a church, you might be able to get some goods donated or for a discounted price, but you'd probably need some sort of letter or card from the church.

Tell us more about that International Buffet in Bergenfield, Wanimoon. We stopped in once on a Sunday lunchtime and the buffet did look good. Plenty of crab, sushi being made fresh. But it was very crowded and Jason didn't want to stay. I say very crowded is the best time for buffet, at least you know stuff is being replenished regularly.

The administration has decided to remove some posts from this thread. Please do not resort to personal attacks, and if you have a relationship with a restaurant please disclose it fully. Thank you.

St. Thomas / St John USVI Dining
Rachel Perlow replied to a topic in Caribbean, USVI & West Indies: Dining
Yes, we're with Interval. I know we saw one or two of the resorts near Simpson Bay and we didn't care for them. One was like a run down hotel and the other was more like spread out bungalows, but still very near town. But I don't want that to spoil your anticipation, I don't think we visited Pelican and your wants in a resort may be different from ours. Besides, if you are renting a car, you will be visiting other beaches and checking out the other sites around the island. However, Simpson Bay is rather near the airport and I don't remember if you make it to the traffic circle before getting to your resort. So you may not just run across the Ram's supermarket as I indicated you would upthread. However, I'm sure that you can be easily directed to it from your timeshare. Have fun! -
If you aren't supposed to leave them in hot cars and they move them into coolers during the summer, then don't you think that keeping in your pocket would be an even worse idea?

I'm with John. Your favorite meal, all the best stuff. Every day. Forever.

Hmm, serving crab simply to me would mean a dinner of steamed crab, melted butter, lemon, parlsied potatoes, and creamed or sauteed spinach. One time we were having King Crab Legs for dinner (similar but larger and easier to eat than Snow Crab), but we forgot to buy lemons. The Riesling Kabinet we had with them was just perfect. Not that the Kabinet was lemony, but it has just the right balance of acid & fruit to compliment the seafood. So that's where my vote goes. Edited to add, I have no idea about the specifics of the 2001 Rieslings.

No, we don't live in LA, just visited recently, and made some good friends who either recommended or just brought us to the best places.
