Thanks! It was tasty too. I have a bunch of the sriracha syrup and kimchi left so will be making it again soon. Today's breakfast, a masala omelet. Recipe from Meera Sodha's Made in India

    Breakfast 2019

This morning I woke up hungry and wanting something different for breakfast, so I made an omelet stuffed with kimchi, drizzled with sriracha syrup, and topped with sesame seeds and cilantro. Very satisfying. I found the recipe in New York Times Cooking. I used a bit less sugar in the syrup than the recipe calls for, and I also heated the kimchi in the pot I made the syrup in rather than scrambling it into the eggs. Dinner 2019

My mashed potatoes are filled with butter and cream. That's what makes them tasty! Tonight, husband requested the menu: cedar plank grilled salmon on a bed of rosemary with a maple-ginger-garlic glaze, eggplant fries, simple broccoli, and mashed potatoes (3 lbs. yukon gold potatoes, riced, 2 sticks butter, 1 cup heavy cream, copious salt, for six servings plus leftovers). I cooked, he cleaned, all are happy.
  8. I had not heard of it until recently either. There is a pizza place across the street from my niece's school that makes it, and this is the flavor that she and all of her friends like the most. It's a layer of mozzarella, topped with warm mashed potatoes seasoned per usual, then cheddar, then bacon and chives, and a final sprinkling of cheddar.

    Dinner 2019

I used an America's Test Kitchen recipe for potato dinner rolls. As you probably know, they keep all their recipes behind a paywall. I will paraphrase though: Boil a peeled, chopped 10 ounce russet potato until tender. Drain and reserve cooking water. Measure out 5 tbsp. water and set aside to cool (discard the rest). Mash the potato and measure out one packed cup (discard the rest). Mix the potato with 2 tbsp. butter and set aside to cool. Meanwhile, mix 2 1/4 cups bread flour with 2 tsp. instant yeast and one tsp. salt. Mix one egg and 1 tbsp. sugar in to the 5 tbsp. cooled potato cooking water. Mix the cooled mashed potato into the flour. While mixing, slowly add the liquid to the flour. Knead 2 minutes, then set mixer to medium low and knead 8 minutes. Knead by hand briefly, then transfer dough to greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled. Deflate dough, then press into 12" log. Cut dough into nine pieces and form into smooth balls. Place on baking sheet, cover and let rise until doubled. Brush balls with beaten egg and top with sesame seeds if desired. Bake at 425 15-18 minutes and let cool on wire rack.
  12. My house is set pretty far back from the street, so I buy full size bars for those willing to make the trek up the driveway. This year, I have M+Ms, (plain and peanut), Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, Hershey bars, Reese's Cups, Milk Duds, Swedish Fish, and Snickers. I think most of the kids in my neighborhood are aging out of trick or treating though. I have not gotten anyone yet, and they usually all come here since they know I give out the big bars. It's raining and windy which I am sure is impacting things. Lights are going out at 8PM sharp--I am already hungry for dinner! My nephew at college is hoping that nobody shows up so that I mail him all of the candy tomorrow 🤣

    Dinner 2019

Yesterday I baked up some potato burger buns topped with sesame seeds. This was my first time making burger buns and I was happy with how they came out. Filled up with buttermilk and jalapeño marinated fried chicken, lettuce, pickles, and for the sauce I put together a batch of the Momofuku ranch since @JoNorvelleWalker keeps talking about it. It was really tasty and kind of addictive. Now I need to buy more Kewpie mayo...
  14. Those look tasty, unlike the ugly ones in my yard!
  15. Thank you! I did mulch that plot this year since I was not planting it. Since they are not poisonous I will tell the landscapers to dig them up when they do the fall clean up.
  16. I am definitely not foraging these at all, but today while out in my yard I noticed I have strange mushrooms growing in what is often my tomato patch. I did not plant anything in it this year. Does anyone recognize these and know if they are poisonous? They smell like dirty feet. There is another kind I have never seen before out there too, but it started to rain before I could take a picture.
  17. Today was supposed to be my CFS delivery, three days worth of fish. Storms offshore prevented the boats from going out and now the fish is coming Friday. So, not wanting to go to the food store, I broke out another package of Imposible Burger and made Italian-American style meatballs. The seasonings were basil, oregano, garlic, onion, red pepper flakes, and cracked pepper. Binders were egg, breadcrumb and pecorino. No added salt because this product has plenty of sodium. Served with sauce I made from the last vacuum sealed and deep frozen bag of tomato pulp from last year's garden. Pretty tasty for mystery food.

We also had squid last night, braised with tomatoes, spicy chiles and garlic, served with rigatoni. The recipe called for parmesan which I thought was odd. I tried it but would not add it again.

  22. Final installment. Oysterfest day two was still pretty crowded, but more manageable. None of us were starving so we just shared a few things. Sea dog (fried lobster tail) Oyster stew Fried oysters More smoked salmon Conch fritters To drink, a local rose in a can. We were not driving! The shuck off was a lot of fun as usual, and local favorite Calen won again After the shuck off there was live music and dancing. Fun That's a wrap for 2019. A couple of scenic shots from our hike this morning before driving home See you next year!

Smoked salmon tacos with a side of elotes off the cob. This was my brother in law's plate. I only managed one taco and a bite of corn. My stomach is shot post-vacation. Too much restaurant food.
  24. Well, as expected, yesterday's Oysterfest was a bit of a bust. It was insanely crowded, much more so than in prior years. Here are a couple of pictures to give you an idea: We could not get near the main food tent, so as a result, did not eat much. At one point, the fire chief closed off part of the grounds due to overcrowding. So, here are our pitiable selections. Husband was starving so we went to the congregational hall since they usually have some various foods. This year, it was just cheese or soup. We went with cheese. Not excitng but it was my husband's breakfast. We stood in a long line to get some clam cakes from Harmon's. These were good We also went to Hatche's fish market for some oysters baked with spinach and garlic, and some smoked salmon. Their salmon is excellent. I went back and got us three more plates of it. We also managed to acquire a dozen oysters from one of the stands This truck was selling hot dogs, sausages and lobster rolls. The line stretched all the way to the street. We did not wait. When we could not take the crowds any longer we came back to the house and ate all of the restaurant leftovers we have been acquiring through the week for dinner. We are heading back to the festival in about half an hour for what should be a more reasonable experience, if things stay true to to prior years. Here are a couple of scenic shots. Waves at Race Point beach. Last night's sunset
  25. Here is that cruise ship we spotted in Provincetown the other day. So odd to see this big ship in a tiny town. Working wharf We ate lunch at Local 186 in Provincetown yesterday. Drinks. Mine is on the left, a vodka-lime-sparkling water thing. The guys all ordered the one on the right called a Diablo. It is supposed to be spicy, but this time they put way too many chile peppers in it. My husband sent his back and had a glass of wine instead. The other two toughed it out. Guapo burger (with fried avocado) Classic burger with cheddar and bacon Burger with cheddar and truffle aioli. This was my husband's. He paid an extra $3 for mixed greens to be added. He got two tiny pieces of mesculin mix. The burger was overcooked too. It was not his day at 186 I guess. Pulled chicken sliders Bonus pictures, the Lobster Pot sign. This is probably the most popular restaurant in Provincetown. My entire family really dislikes it. The sign is cool though. Last night's sunset at Duck Harbor Heading over to Oysterfest in a bit. I am not sure how much we will get accomplished today, because Saturday is always really crowded, but we have tickets for tomorrow too, which is always a lot mellower and in my opinion more fun.
