When I serve crudites, I like this white bean and tarragon dip and this honey curry dip.

All this I know quite well ... have been doing it for 20+ years with no apparent dimunition of food crossing my palate ... it is restrictive in some ways but nice in others .. some members of my family require this strictness but, out of respect for them, I find it not terribly difficult. I personally eat what I like when I dine outside my home (in restaurants, not my cold garage!) and that "holds" me more than delightfully! Thanks for your input, NWKate ... and you would be shocked to learn of the various "styles" of keeping kosher: some eat on one set of dishes for both dairy and meat, some have two sets of dishes and eat nonkosher meat, some ... well, you get the picture .. everyone does it in their own way ...

Thanks for the great peeling ideas from this thread, everyone! Just finished them and it went quite smoothly ... the peels came off with not too much trouble after the blanching took place .. would I try this again? Absolutely!!

Ah, but one can prepare a sumptuous meal which is quite kosher (witness the following) and Rabbi Ribeye's meal above. Our (kosher) Thanksgiving menu will be ... Relish tray White asparagus wrapped in smoked salmon Olives ... variety Gherkins Marinated artichoke hearts Pepperoncini Home-pickled beets Hearts of palm Marinated grape tomatoes Soup course Red and yellow roasted pepper soup Main course Roast young turkey Cornbread, sausage, onion, pepper, celery stuffing Sweet potato souffle Golden acorn squash halves with cranberry-orange-port filling Baby green peas with multicolored pearl onions Honeyed baby carrots with grapes Desserts Brandied pumpkin pie with whipped cream Cinnamon apple pie kosher wines Moscato di Asti Chardonnay Of course, I substitute nondairy creamers and faux cream for the whipped cream but the result is really quite undetectable ... It will be a wonderful day as family and friends gather (and no waiting for the seder to end before eating!!)

This is where my family goes on the morning of Thanksgiving and we have done this for several years .. we help prepare the meals and another group of people comes in to serve them all afternoon ... so, Kathy, I have to commend you on your post ... and your making the holiday good for those who need it most. It was not so very long ago that doctors who proposed the theory that ulcers were caused by bateria were laughed at by the medical establishment ... and were ultimately found to be correct ... won a Nobel prize for their discovery ... So it may be entirely possible that elements in kimchee have some interesting results on avian flu ... more info in the gathering maelstrom ...

What? No attached coupon for a free bag of White Castles for their Number One Patron? They owe you for your continuing support both personally as well as on this website! Ahem, ahem ...

The very best of all possible ideas yet! Thank you for this, Fabulous Food Babe, because it resolves not only Randi's problem but is so good for others who are often in considerably worse straights. Thanksgiving does not always fall on a day designated by an impersoanl calendar .. rather, it is in one's heart and soul ... being thankful for what one has and that one can share it and spread the cheer of the day? Priceless!

Yep, Greg, and, ultimately, yay us! Your "obsession" is our gift .. and we thank you!

I think that this makes the second time today that finds me thanking you, dockhl ... this soup sounds quite like something which might make the Thanksgiving table .. or even in the den before dinner begins ... The color certainly sounds festively fallish!

I was seriously considering the brown jasmine because I like the taste so well and it will stand up to the other stuffing ingredients in the onions ...

It's already the Sunday before Thanksgiving and I have yet to decide upon my soup course ... I want something *festive, autumnal, and not too heavy .. it can't be dairy because of the kosher issue at a meat (turkey) meal ... once had a tomato-orange soup which andiesenji and I worked on to get it perfect .. can't locate yet ... any suggestions for a soup within *my parameters?? maybe this kind of thing omitting the cream?

Breakfast! The most important meal of the day (2004-2011)

There have been enough eggshells broken in the production of this thread on breakfasts that it made me think of a website devoted exclusively to eggshells and the creations they can spawn (no pun intended) ... I offer the decorative art of eggshells ... My husband's Egg Beaters have no shell ...
